"It's on the other side of the building", Valerie gives Khione a look, face stern and dark eyes focused. She knows this is dangerous, she knows there is no need to warn the other girl. The plan was to wait for the boys to swoop in and help, but they are no damsels in distress - Valerie refuses to be, to hide until her brothers can save her - and if the creature is already here the plan has obviously changed. "We do the old fire and ice trick, all right? If it's truly a demon my flames won't scare it, but I can draw enough attention to me for you to sneak up and freeze him." And then they'll think of a next step.

"Hey, you! Wait!", Valerie was almost out of breath from the hours she had spent running, sweaty and desperate she came to a halt between the stranger and the dark alleyway. She knew she was coming off as weird, but she hoped the anonymity of a city as big as New York was enough of a layer of protection. "You can't go in there, like, you should probably take a detour. I saw...", frantically she searched for words. They had not prepared her for this at the academy, what to do when you free your evil demon-father was probably up in the next semester. "I saw some raccoon running in there, disgusting thing full of rabies and whatnot." The moment she said that a low growl emanated from the shadows.

"It's dangerous, that's all I am saying", Valerie looked at the woman across from her, the one that had taken her in, had helped her when she was wounded and lost on the streets of this city, "And it's my fight. There is no reason for you to get involved, you have helped enough."

So far she has not shared much with Polly, except of course for a dozen thank you's. She stumbled - no, she broke - into the bakery late two nights ago, chased by a creature straight out of hell. But now she's back on her feet and no longer feels like hiding. "I promise neither you nor your property will get hurt, as long as you stay out of it. I am not sure I will be able to protect you if you come with me." And besides, it's against the rules and Valerie knows maybe she should start caring about those again - before the academy sends Bell after her.
