Sketch concepts for theoretical X-Naut MDs… always thought it was interesting they have only chemists & bio-engineers(?) but no medical staff! What’re they supposed to do if someone gets stomped on by an Italian plumber while exploring a brand-new planet???

Hey, I’m currently playing through the TTYD remake and I gotta wonder if some X-Nauts snuck away from work behind Grodus’s back just to kick some bad guy butt on stage. What do you think?
HEHEH idk if they manage to kick any bad guy booty BUT I'm 100% sure that some of the grunts do sneak off and do stuff behind their leaders' backs. Life in the X-Naut army is strict and they've gotta destress somehow!

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, badges can be divided into two groups: ones that appear only once in the entire game (e.g. each of the different Attack FX badges) and a much larger set of badges that, while also be able to be found or bought, may also have a small random chance to drop after battles with certain enemies. The chances are usually 1/100 or less, so it is possible to play through the entire story without seeing a single random badge drop, but a surprisingly large percentage of the badges can actually drop this way.
There is one badge that can only be obtained through random drops before a certain cutoff point in the story: Flower Finder. The only enemies that drop them are X-Naut PhDs, fought in the X-Naut Fortress (with a 1/150 chance), which completely disappear after completing Chapter 7. This means that while the player can, by investing enough time, obtain an indefinitely large amount of any badge there are multiples of after completing the game, this does not hold true for Flower Finder and unless the player grinds for additional Flower Finder badges before completing Chapter 7, that opportunity will be lost forever on that save file.

There’s something really adorable about the X-Naut PhD.  I think what I like is how mundane he is, just a professional doing his job.  Got his clipboard, for all that doctor business.  They throw chemicals and drink potions, so I guess they’re pharmacists.  He’ll hook you up with all those prescription Mario shrooms.

OC reveal!!
These are my two Mario OCs. Jem and Jivent. Jem is just a normal humal while Jivent is a X-Naut.
Basic summaries: Jem loves to go on adventures. She’s rather rambunctious at times, but has a growing curiosity for what may be out there in the world. And though she may look it, she isnt a princess. She just really loves that outfit. Jivent is a former PhD X-Naut who has noticed the error of his ways and turned to the good side. He befriends Jem and accompanies her on her journeys.
but yeah, these are my Mario OCs!

Hello, I am the one who asked about the Yux before, and I can see the reasoning behind cuteness catching enemies off guard. By any chance, would it be much of me to ask how to create one?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"... in that it needs a speck of something to start building the creature around. A core, or... some kind of skeleton. Now, Yux don't have bones - we use thin wires for the body shape to build itself off of, which is all done while this framework is suspended in a tube. This wiring also contains the mechanism that lets Yux fire laser rings; they're really quite a feat of bio-engineering." "As for the other components... surrounding the framework is a mixture of organic elements suspended in water. The attached computer system to the construction container regulates this mixture as the components slowly precipitate onto the structure. It's actually almost identical to the process we use for artificially creating new X-Nauts... the only difference being we use a different program for constructing Yux, and we don't need a framework for the developing cells." "... I hope that's sufficient? I'm sorry, I've been up since, uh... "..." "...that's not important. What's important is I get this project done as soon as possible." -Jesse

I do apologize if this has been asked before, but I have seen the Yux created by the X-Nauts and I have to ask, why are they called Yux? It makes them sound less threatening or strong.
Tumblr media
"... they were designed and named long before I became a PhD. I heard once that they were supposed to be called 'Crux' at one point, but someone thought the name sounded too menacing for such a cute creature. The name 'Yux' was supposedly a compromise." "I don't think they need to sound particularly intimidating, personally. A cutesy name means enemies are less likely to be on guard... and they excel at guarding from enemies. Especially considering how easy it is to grow them." -Jesse

Mr. Crump I have a question
What's a hair brain?
-O.V.
Tumblr media
"All earthlings are like that, too, 'cause of all the storms on the planet! Weird, huh? It's also why it hurts 'em so much when you pull on their hair - it's connected straight to their brain!" "Though, I guess we X-Nauts have our own weird quirks too... A PhD once told me that we 'make a lot of evolutionary biologists angry', whatever the heck that means." -Lord Crump

He seems to be taking it well.
It was bound to happen! I'm starting an askbox series featuring my new unlikely duo: the big, rotund X-Naut PhD, Xander, and his adopted (minion) son, Min T.! And guess what? YOU get to be part of their adventures!
This askbox series takes place sometime after the events of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. More will be explained in the future. So please leave your questions and comments here and in my inbox, as they will really help me get things started. No question or comment will be too big or too small. I want this series to be as interactive as possible, so feel free to ask questions, comment, reblog, tell your friends and Paper Mario enthusiasts, and most importantly, get ready, 'cuz we're gonna get X-travagant!

ASKBLOG OVERVIEW & GUIDELINES
(Revised as of 6/18/2024)
Welcome to an askblog for the X-Nauts from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door! This blog follows the adventures of a handful of X-Nauts as they go through the events of the game behind the scenes... with more than a few twists and turns along the way. Loosely follows canon.
Characters that can receive asks are as follows: Sir Grodus; Lord Crump; Johnson (X-Naut); Carmine (X-Naut); Jesse (PhD); Pancakes (Elite); Syrup (Elite).
General Rules:
No NSFW. This blog isn't the place for that.
I have the final say on what asks get answered - inappropriate asks will be deleted accordingly. Asks are generally answered in the order they are received.
Interactions with other rp/ask blogs is very welcome, Mario or not.
General DNI criteria apply. Proshippers/profiction users, bigots, TERFs, Etc. will be blocked on sight.
While this blog largely tries to adhere to the tone of the source material, it may wind up a little darker than what is seen in TTYD in places. Nothing insane, though.
Magic anon asks generally discouraged.
Feel free to also submit asks directed to the owner if you want! These won’t have art and will generally be addressed at any time.
{Character bios/descriptions under the cut.}
Carmine [They/them; She/he]
-A perfectly ordinary X-Naut, suited to perfectly ordinary jobs around the Moonbase, in her natural habitat. The email inbox for TEC-XX was their idea, in order to help alleviate boredom among those perpetually stuck on the Moon - and to try to get vital secrets out of Earth-dwellers! (… at least, that’s what she told his boss.) -Their favorite food is Fire Pops, but he has a hard time getting them on the base. Hangs out with Pancakes and Jesse the most, and considers both to be very close friends. -Very, very scared of Sir Grodus’ wrath. Secretly dreams of adventuring across Earth... some day.
|
Jesse [They/she]
-A snippy X-Naut PhD who always seems to be busy, almost on the verge of being overworked. She keeps to herself a lot of the time, often locked up in their personal lab, or otherwise vanishing for long periods of time. According to Carmine, they weren’t always that reclusive… they really haven't been looking well as of late. -Adores collecting books from Earth, even though they believe the planet to be a highly dangerous, untamed wilderness infested with monsters and wild creatures.
-Has difficulty accepting gifts.
|
Pancakes [They/them; he/him]
-An Elite X-Naut who is somewhat immature, especially considering their high-ranking position in the X-Naut army. He seems to perpetually feel as though they’re trapped in their sibling’s shadow, and often becomes frustrated with, or argues with them. Ultimately, he just wants to prove himself and feel useful to somebody. -Despite their best efforts to maintain a “cool” persona, occasionally lets himself be truly earnest and enthusiastic about things. -Terrified of Earth, and has never been down to the planet as they firmly believe that some giant monster would descend upon them the moment they stepped foot on the planet’s surface. -… probably would main Wolf in Super Smash Bros., given the opportunity.
|
Syrup [They/them; it/its]
-A reckless X-Naut with a rebellious spirit, uncharacteristic of most of the X-Naut army. Though they are considered to be one of the best and strongest Elite X-Nauts in the army - even praised by Sir Grodus himself - they don't seem to be very happy with their job. -Its helmet and jacket were originally only meant for use in a disguise while they were on Earth, they liked them too much to take them off. -Their sibling, Pancakes, thinks the outfit looks stupid, which only encourages them to wear it more for the sole purpose of annoying them. -While they fight often with their sibling, they ultimately prioritize Pancake's safety and well-being above all else. They firmly believe that he should not be an Elite like it, due to his inexperience.
|
Johnson [He/him]
-A X-Naut best described as the embodiment of a walking disaster. You’re far more likely to witness the aftermath of his presence rather than he himself, as a result of whatever impulsive scheme he had at the moment. -He’s… charming, at least?
