These two are closed off post arr in terms of saying it for a long time because saying it would make it true and would have consequences and being vulnerable, however in actions they are very open about it. Like the two still fought and were passive aggressive but they still did things that expressed feelings that everyone else could see. Sib used to be so open about her feelings and emotions in arr but events happened that closed them off and Thancred was never really that open to begin with. And it was the saying it out loud that was the thing making it harder for them to get along so in ShB Minfilia locks them in a room and won’t let them out until they talk about it all. And since then they’re much better about being open about them though there are still some things they keep from the other that are more things that haven’t been brought up yet (sibs brother and the dynamics of that being one of them) or they don’t want to worry the other so they can focus on the task at hand (Thancred not wanting anyone to know how he asked Demos to keep him in check since it was a high possibility he would go against what the logical choice would be. Basically that whole coming home mission conversation).

Demos x Yugiri

Both are reserved how often things are said but they both know how to read the other’s body language so they are open in a way. Both are keen observers and use that to know when the other needs to be pressed to talk about emotions since they will just not like approach them right away kind of thing you know?

Carly x Zenos (x Stasia)

Carly is open with her devotion, loyalty, and love for her partners. She doesn’t like hiding anything from them. Zenos doesn’t really have the words or practice to voice feelings but he’s very straightforward with things and while he never says that he loves Carly it’s fairly obvious he treats and feels differently for her than others. Stasia is very much not open with feelings. Feelings have always led to bad outcomes and was taught as much by Emet-Selch, and later on found that her father was of the same mind. You have to force the emotions out of that woman and only three people are very good at knowing what she’s feeling and thinking, and that’s Carly, Erich, and Urianger.

Hyth and Anthea

These two are very open. There’s no hiding, no secrets, nothing. Okay there were some secrets but never anything bad more surprises, worst was Hyth not wanting Anthea to know he asked Emet to help in submitting an application for a job that he knew they were qualified for so they could be considered not just handed the job.

Equestrian Invasion of Earth (animated map)

This is a gif of my dream alternate universe where ponies invade Earth x3 Each frame represents one week of the war.

The basic idea is as follows:

Princess Twilight has develops a spell that allows travel to other worlds. She is eager to try it out herself, but her guards insist it is too dangerous, and convince her to let them travel as scouts instead. What they find is Earth, a planet of shocking violence, cruelty and misery, imposed by a cruel ruling species - humans.

When the scouts return home, the public are outraged by the news. The usually peaceful nation of Equestria erupts into demonstrations calling for war. After months of ponies, led by Secret Agent Bon-Bon, scouting the planet in secret, with the use of invisibility spells and communication with local animals, the ponies uncover the locations of all Earth's major military basis, and all of humanity's major weaknesses - the biggest ones being their division into smaller nations and over-reliance on electricity.

The princesses of Equestria then reveal themselves, causing a massive magical firestorm covering the entire surface of the moon to demonstrate their power, before issuing an ultimatum to all governments on Earth, which they are given 14 days to agree to. The conditions are as follows:    > All wars are to be stopped within 12 months    > The punishments for animal abuse are to be increased to equal those for human abuse within 12 months    > Sport hunting, commercial animal testing and factory farming are to be banned within 12 months    > The use of fossil fuels is to be completely phased out within 5 years    > Adequate food, clean water and medical assitance are to be provided to all humans and domesticated animals within 5 years

The ponies give assurance that they will assist in any way necessary to achieve the goals of the ultimatum, however only Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland and Bhutan agree to the conditions. With no other options, the princesses officially declare war on the remainder of humanity.

Within the first 2 hours of the war, all major military bases and power stations are hit by extreme weather events. Access to nuclear weapons is cut off by floodwater, military buildings are flattened by tornadoes and the world's electricity grid is shut down. Communication cables in the ocean are torn apart and massive maelstroms and hurricanes prevent boats or planes from leaving ports. The ponies take care to minimise the damage to civilian areas, and areas with high populations of wild animals.

With human governments in complete disarray, the ponies quickly storm major coastal cities and centres of power, capturing Beijing, Shanghai, New York, Washington DC, London, Paris, Berlin and Rio De Janeiro in a week, before the military can respond.

The ponies then sweep into sparsely populated inland areas such as the Amazon rainforest, where animals vastly outnumber humans. Animal communicators like Fluttershy are used to convince the animals to join the pony forces and sweep across continents, cutting off road and rail networks across North America, Central Asia and South America over the next 2 weeks. During this time, the ponies also take control of eastern India and more of continental Europe, before their armies can regroup.

By the 4th week of the war, the humans have finally begun to gather some form of organised resistance, however without international communications, the resistance is uncoordinated and exists only in isolated pockets. Resistance in Europe is crushed, opening the Middle East for attack. Too caught up in internal conflicts to fight against the ponies, the Middle East falls rapidly. North Korea's large but primitive army is also easily overcome by pony forces. The significantly stronger US resistance is also pushed back into the Northwest, Canada and Alaska.

By week 6, pony forces in Asia and Europe have united, and Equestrian forces in North and South America have also reached each other. Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas are completely pony-controlled by this point. The ponies consolidate their rule across their territories and bring in new supplies, while beginning invasions of North Africa and Japan.

By week 8, only small pockets of human resistance remain in western Russia, Australia and New Zealand, areas the ponies previously avoided due to geographical difficulty (in Russia's case) and lack of strategic significance (in the case of the later two). Russia's army has begun rebuilding its military bases by this point and is putting up fierce resistance, but it is simply no match for magic and the sheer numbers of animals the ponies have recruited.

In the 10th week of the war, in the Battle of Moscow, the last human resitance surrenders. The ponies assume control of the Earth and declare their captured territories "The Equestrian Planetary Kingdom of Earth" or "EPK". Most of the ponies return home, with magic-infused animals and a few pony guards left to keep the peace. All human weapons are destroyed, power is restored, and human media networks, businesses and governments are taken over by ponies.

Countries that agreed to the ultimatum are allowed to keep their independence and are not invaded by the ponies, however their borders are heavily guarded and they are required to demilitarise.

Lyra Heartstrings is declared 'Princess of Earth' and, along with her companion Bon-Bon (who led the scouting teams before the war), she goes about mending relations between ponies and humans, mainly through the use of free food handouts and internet access, and begins working on enacting the conditions opposed by the ultimatum.

The conditions are met on time, largely through the use of magic and sheer force, and although initially hostile, the human population gradually calms down, though obesity has become even more of an issue due to all the chocolate handouts.

Eventually, after 10 years, Lyra's approval rating surpasses 50% among humans, and 90% among intelligent animals. Periodic uprisings still take place in the Middle East, Russia and the southern United States, due to social conservatism and devotion to religions which state animals are inferior, but due to the human lack of weapons they are quickly and fairly peacefully silenced. Across the world, living standards, happiness levels and literacy rates reach an all time high.

Many of the pony guards that remained on Earth have had children, and a significant pony population exists on Earth, largely concentrated in major cities such as New York, Berlin, Beijing and Tokyo.

With her new-found public support, Lyra begins to enact more reforms - she outlaws discrimination based on race, gender and sexuality; she ends the meat industry entirely and develops lab-grown meat; and she builds shielding to protect the Earth from potential meteorite impacts, gamma ray bursts and solar storms. Earth under the EPK's rule becomes a thriving community of humans, ponies and animals.

Encouraged by the success of the Earth campaign, the princesses of Equestria decide to gradually explore the multiverse further (using Earth as a base of operations to prevent hostile aliens entering Equestria). They find many more planets like Earth and reform them, building an eternal, multiversal pony empire, devoted to maintaining peace, fairness, and friendship across all the known universes.

That’s...a lot to take in. What I’m wondering is how the more rapey of the brony population would be handled. You know the one’s I’m talking about.

History

Charlotte was a princess that lives in the castle of the imperial capital, Zaphias. Even if she is born in Zaphias, she is originally from Shizontania. Her parents ruled that country but due to various conflicts that began to occur between humans, monsters and Entelexeia, they had to flee to the capital and were welcomed by the Emperor. Charlotte's mother died a few years after her birth due to an illness, while her father died in the Great War. Charlotte was only 11 when she was orphaned, so for convenience she stayed in the castle, although she didn't particularly like being there. Initially she was chosen as a candidate for the throne, but since she did not possess the power of the Child of the full Moon, which all heirs possess,  her candidacy was denied. She didn't care about being an empress or just being an heir, she didn't like her life as a royal. She couldn’t go out from the castle, learn magic or learn how to use a weapon, but she was very clever and sometimes she secretly learned some kind of magic. At the age of 17 she was tired of living like a recluse and decided to give up her title and deserted. The empire discovered this and they decided to imprison her accusing her for betrayal, but she escaped from the castle followed by some soldiers. She arrived to the lower quarter but she still couldn’t totally escape from the soldiers, and while she was running she got hurt by falling because of her shoes. For a moment she thought that her journey was ending but in that moment it came a guy who saved her, that guy was Yuri Lowell (you don’t say lol). In the end Charlotte got cured and she decided to change identity for not get discovered by the soliders. She cut her long hair and decided to be known as a boy. She changed her name in Charle Hadion. Charlotte decided to open a shop where she created pocket watches and clocks, since she read so many books and she got so curious about clocks that she created one with a music box that she will use as a weapon in future.

One day, while she was making a delivery for a royal guy, she was in company with Repede and, after the delivery, Repede noticed something, a little puppy abandoned in a small street. Charlotte immediately took the puppy with her, when they were at home she cured it and decided to keep him. She called him Cotton for the color of the fur and also because it was a really fluffy dog.

Curiosity:

XD The game Ryan and his mysterious friend 2020 are playing in this fic is like… some weird cross between Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Star Wars, and Age of Empires. XD

Ryan Laney has a secret.

At 9PM on Fridays, Ryan winds down from practice by logging in to his favorite video game. It’s an MMORPG–and no, it has nothing to do with racing. At 9PM on Fridays, Ryan’s not a professional racer. He’s a moisture farmer on Tatooine.

His goals are simple: Farm enough moisture to make a decent living; maybe send his nephew to college. Find a girl. Level high enough to build that bomb shelter so he can survive the airstrike in Level 5 (something he has failed multiple times now).

“I’m telling you, I don’t think it’s possible to buy the Mega Drill and then have enough credits left over to not starve to death. You can’t get the shelter unless you co-invest. We need to team up,” he says over his headset.

“It’s possible. You just have to play a perfect game.” says another player–Hindsight2020. Right now it’s just Ryan and six other guys on Tatooine, and the other guys have their mics turned off. It’s not exactly the most popular game.

“Okay, but that’s stupid. Why would you run the same level for 50 hours just to figure out how to get a perfect score, just to get this dumb bomb shelter? If you give 500 and I give 500 we can just buy it right now and move on to Level 6!” Ryan counters.

“So perfection is stupid? That explains a lot about you.”

“I’m just talking about straight-up efficiency, man. Besides, we’re moisture farmers. The whole point is to work together.”

“You know that transport that crashed back in Level 3? I salvaged radioactive lead from it. I could contaminate your whole mine if I wanted to.”

“Cool,” says Ryan. “Go for it.”

Hindsight2020 farms some moisture. He re-tarps his garage. He adds a sand sculpture to his front yard. He doesn’t poison anything. Because if he takes Ryan out, it’s just him and six boring dudes–one of whom is building a sand castle so large he definitely has to be pouring real money into this dumb game.

Frankly, Ryan’s surprised Hindsight2020 hasn’t dropped some cash into it, just to show castle guy up. Ryan knows he’s got the finances, and he’s definitely not lacking for spite.

“Did you read the new rules package yet? The new aero specs look good; I’m pretty stoked,” Ryan says to 2020.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” 2020 replies.

“Okay.”

Ryan barters some moisture for clay from a neighboring planet. He’s planning to retrofit his well. If you’re gonna play a perfect game, he figures, he’s going to have to level up his well.

“Can I trade you for some of that?” asks 2020.

“Whatever,” says Ryan. But he flips to the trade screen to see what 2020’s offering.

500 credits.

For a bit of clay that’s probably worth half that, at best.

With an extra 500 credits in the bank, Ryan’s got his bomb shelter.

Ryan’s never really thought about what his fellow players look like, on their side of the screen. One of the things he likes about this game is that it doesn’t matter who you are: On Tatooine, you’re all moisture farmers. But he wishes 2020 could see his face right now. He doesn’t have words to convey his surprise.

He clicks ‘Accept.’

Within minutes, Ryan’s got the bomb shelter that will save his life about half a level from now, and for the first time ever, he’ll finally get to see Level 6. Rumor has it the Trade Ship starts selling new kinds of drillbits, which is exciting.

Ryan scrolls to the other side of the planet, where 2020’s farm is. He’s redone his roof yet again. With the clay, he’s made himself a patio painted xylophone colors. It’s…nice, Ryan supposes, but 2020 obviously knows it’s all about to be obliterated. He knows that air raid’s coming.

When 2020 notices Ryan’s cursor hovering over his house, he says, “Watch this,” and starts clicking the tiles. For the first few seconds, it’s just a mess of noise.

Then it’s Doo-DOO-do-do-do-DOOOO-do do-do-do-DOO-do dodododo-doooooooo. Which is still basically a mess of noise, but it’s a mess of noise Ryan instantly recognizes as ‘Star-Wars-theme-played-on-tile-xylophone.’ It’s pretty freaking awesome.

“What happened to ‘play a perfect game?’” Ryan laughs. “Dude, this is amazing! You’re amazing.”

“It’s just a stupid game,” says 2020.

Five minutes later, Level 5’s air raid comes and Ryan is safe in his bomb shelter and 2020’s xylophone house burns to the ground. Ryan doesn’t have to put the fire out–it’s a waste of water, frankly, and it’s not like it’ll bring 2020 back; Game Over in this game is Game Over. He does anyway, though.

On Sunday, Ryan Laney is racing for third. More specifically, Cruz is racing for third. Ryan’s caught in her dirty air, and is flopping all over the freaking place. Ryan can’t hear the announcers, but he’s sure they’re having an absolute field day with this. He feels more like a flag than he does a car that’s ever gonna win one.

Then something tags his back bumper. Just a tap at first, then sustained contact, shoving him up the field. The added momentum settles him some, and he finds his line again. His speedometer crawls 1mph faster, 3 mph faster. It’s not much, but it’s enough.

It’s Storm behind him.

The second Ryan noses past Cruz, takes the angle from her and drops her back to fifth, Storm lets up off Ryan’s back and passes him easily. But now that he’s out of Cruz’s air, Ryan’s got third in the bag. It’ll be his highest finish all season, and Storm knows it.

“Dude, what’s with you and Storm?” Bubba asks him after the race. “Lap 290, he was totally helping you out.”

Ryan brushes him off. “I dunno, man. He hates Cruz; I was a convenient prop. It’s not like it kept him from beating my butt afterward. Storm’s just a weird… weird strategic mastermind dude.”

“Whatever you say.” Bubba keeps an eye on Storm, who’s fielding an interview on the other side of pit row.

“You jealous?” Ryan teases. “Don’t worry. You’ll always be my #1, Bubs.”

It’s Friday again, and Ryan logs into his moisture farm on Tatooine again.

2020’s there, too.

“Hey man,” greets Ryan. “Thanks for the bump-draft the other day.”

“You keep saying stuff like it’s supposed to mean something,” says 2020. “I’m not your diary. I don’t care about your life. Are we gonna split the bomb shelter this time or what?”

Ryan grins. “Sure thing, 20. Can you do that xylophone thing again? But like, inside the shelter this time?”

“I don’t do encores,” says 2020. “Watch this, though.”

2020’s a freaking showoff, but Ryan doesn’t mind.

For those new to being tagged in my Mutant Empire reading liveblogs, the “X-Men: Mutant Empire” books are a trilogy written by Christopher Golden in the 1990s. They are novels, not comic books, and the X-novels occupy a very shakey/debated place in canon. That said, they're excellent characterization sources (in my opinion), especially for characters that didn't get much in canon, such as Carmella Unuscione or the Kleinstock brothers. The reason I'm tagging you all, however, is because of the Magneto characterization. He is the main villain of this series, having used a reprogrammed Sentinels to take over Manhattan, along with the help of his Acolytes. He has rechristened Manhattan as “Haven” and invites all mutants to live there, while allowing humans to remain if they agree to live by his new rules under which they are second-class citizens. The X-Men are, of course, trying to intervene, both to stop Magneto himself but also to prevent the US military from deploying their own solutions. Magneto's characterized in these novels more similarly to how he's written today than how he was written in most of the 1990s. For a lot of the 90s, Magneto was, to put it simply, terrible. Like the worst he's been since the Silver Age. As in, literally killed THOUSANDS of innocent civilians. He's not movie fandom Magneto, who only ever hurts very bad people who definitely deserved it, and who usually has no other choice. The Magneto of the 90s is dark as fuck, much like everything else in comics was at the time. However, the Magneto of these books is far more complex, noble, and (by comparison) moderate...while also still not straying from the flaws that make him a villain. It's a little-known, under-rated series, and probably only of interest to Acolytes-loving nerds like me, but I think it's valuable for fans of Magneto who seek to balance his good and bad traits into the most accurate picture possible, so I think it will be of interest to you all even if most of you are writing a movie-based Magneto. So, that's why I tagged you all, I thought you'd find it interesting and enjoyable! This is the THIRD book, so if I haven't tagged you before and you want to catch up, the tag on this blog for it is “mutant empire”! Also, everything in here is opinion, you don’t need to agree with the characterization of Magneto in these books or my analysis thereof, it’s just my own thoughts as I was reading. With that preface out of the way, let's began!

PROLOGUE We begin with Manhattan, which is now called Haven. As a mun who writes the Marvel character called Haven, this keeps making me double-take when people say things like “let's go to Haven” or “you're of no use to Haven”. As a note, I don't think Magneto ever knew about the person Haven (though she is shown to know about him) since he was dead during her period of conflict with X-Factor. Anyway, as for THIS Haven, the subway is down and there's very little traffic, but lots of restaurants and small business are open because they have a fuck ton of new patrons coming in. Mutants are pouring in from across the country, across the world. On the good side, a lot of them doubtlessly need a sanctuary like this. On the bad side, Magneto sees their gathering here as a way to enlarge his Mutant Empire. This is typical of Magneto, if often forgotten by fandom: He wants to save mutantkind as a whole, but the individuals are still means to that end. He did the same thing on Genosha---using the population to form an army---and who can forget his “pawns go first” line in X3? Oh, wait, a lot of people, no one likes X3. 

  But anyway, this is on the first page and I already like the balance going between the aspects of Magneto as savior and villain. Also, I don't think this connection was intended by the text, but I can't help but see an analogue to Xavier here; he offered a home to mutants in need, then trussed up those same vulnerable teenagers as a private paramilitary group. Both these men have good intentions, but they will take advantage of the very people they're trying to save in order to reach that larger goal.

Also: “In less than a day, he had transformed one of the most important cities on Earth so that it conformed to his vision: a planet where mutants were the masters and humans were the servants. It was the only way for mutants to survive human prejudice.” A lot of people will note that Magneto doesn't want to kill all humans, and that's generally true, but the fact is he does frequently still want mutants to be the dominant species. In his early 2D Silver Age days, this was due to just straight-up thinking mutants superior, but in current times (again, this book was really ahead of its time in terms of Magneto) it's more like what he says here, it's to keep mutants safe. Because humans can't hurt them if THEY'RE the ones who are the underdogs instead. As a note, this is the mentality that I write Anne Marie Cortez as having. She looks at history, looks at the horrible things humans have done to each other, at the horrible things done to mutants now, and is like, humankind obviously cannot be trusted to be in charge. She believes that a mutant-dominated society will be better for mutants AND humans. And she doesn't think mutants will be as bad as humans either, because she believes God created mutants not just to be the physical improvement upon the flawed humanity, but a spiritual one as well. She believes that while some mutants are doing “bad things” now due to this imperfect world, they WILL be better than humans are, they CAN be better, once everything is put right (that is, mutants put on top with Magneto leading them) She, uh, she has religious delusions (with Magneto as the modern Christ in this paradigm, obviously >.< Anne Marie no!)

“From the observation platform at the top of the Empire State Building, Magneto looked down upon his Mutant Empire and his heart swelled with triumph, happiness, and pride. The sun forced his slate-grey eyes into a squint, the wind whipped his silver-white hair across his forehead, and Magneto smiled. It was a beginning.” AWWW I ALMOST WANT THE SERIES TO END HERE! Instead, we go to Wolverine and the Beast, whose exchange is irrelevant to the topic of this post (Magneto) and then to Amelia Voght of the Acolytes. Amelia Voght was a past lover of Charles Xavier, but split up with him when he formed the X-Men. She wanted to live a quiet life, and felt that Xavier's means would attract human attention to mutants. Years later, when she had, despite her attempts at a quiet life on her own, lost everything (including her family) to humans, she joined Fabian Cortez among his second-gen Acolytes recruits. Though Fabian is currently dead at the time of this novel, Amelia, like the other Acolytes, now follows Magneto in his stead (and much more happily) Unlike most of the Acolytes, Amelia receives far more complex characterization, and she's not the bloodthirsty sadistic bigot-for-fun that most of them are. She's actually a lot more like Magneto, which might explain why she follows him, despite having her doubts that his way is any more hopeful than that of Xavier. Anyway, now that you know who she is, here's what's going on. She's pretty pleased too, like Magneto. She's also surprised, not that he succeeded but that humans are still in the city. For those who weren't with me for the first two books, Magneto did NOT kick humans out. He said they could leave if they wanted, and stay so long as they accepted his new rules. A lot did leave, but some did stay (I imagine a lot COULDN'T leave, it takes money to be able to move and set up somewhere else ASAP, so there is definitely a class privilege thing going here, which overlaps with race and sexuality/gender. I don't think Magneto intended that, but the reality is that it's the people who are already the most oppressed that don't actually have a choice in whether they go or stay) Amelia is surprised by this, she thought that the island of Manhattan would be devoid of humans once Magneto took over, but reflects that, as I already noted earlier, “But Magneto's intention had always been for mutants to rule humanity, not destroy it. Voght had privately doubted it was possible. On this day, she changed her mind.” Anyway, Voght thinks about how the US government is still on the fence about what they're going to do, but Voght figures that save for a nuclear strike, Magneto and the Acolytes have it “all wrapped up”.

Amelia enters the reception area. There is one woman (the deputy mayor; the mayor himself “abandoned his city without a thought) and three men, one of whom is the police commissioner. Deputy Mayor Perkins is direct and no-nonsense. Amelia takes them all to meet with Mags, but before she does, warns the police commissioner that “As of this day, Magneto is the only law this island knows. He is not in favor of the death penalty, but that does not mean he does not see its uses.” Kinda like on Genosha, when he killed Fabian Cortez and all the good guys are like OMG YOU MURDERED HIM (come on guys, are you really THAT upset?) and Magneto was like “look, I run Genosha, consider this capital punishment, they have that in the USA you know” Magneto is of course “resplendent in his regal purple-and-crimson uniform. Without his helmet he wore during battle, his silver-white hair fell around his shoulders.” Ooooh, we got a long-hair Mags! He doesn't usually have long hair in 616, that's typically an AoA thing. Also RESPLENDENT I love it. Perkins gets right to it with “Why are we here?” and Magneto appreciates that she has little patience for small talk, but invites them to sit all the same, though he remains standing. He says they're here because they're the highest-ranking officials still remaining in the city and “You all need to know how I wish this city to be run, now that I am its sole authority.” So, a moment ago Amelia was surprised at how “amiable” Magneto is being to these people, how “benevolent” he looks, and I think I can say why---because he's won. He's the one giving orders. He can be nice because he's the top dog now. Admittedly, he was never nice to his underlings while running the Brotherhood, and not exactly friendly to the Acolytes either, but that's when, even though he had control of small group of people, he was still fighting against the larger world. Now that he has what he wants, he's willing to be nicer to those below him. Which isn't a compliment, btw; people who are only decent to others when everything is going their way are NOT good people. I think there's also the aspect of responsibility bringing out the best in him too. As cruel as he was to his followers, he was wonderful to the New Mutants when he was their teacher. Partly I think that's because they were children, but also because they were HIS children, tasked to HIM by Xavier. They were his responsibility in a way that the Brotherhood and Acolytes are not. His job wasn't to lead them, but to take care of them. Likewise, he's going to be taking care of this city, even if he'll also be taking some of its members for his own personal army. So I can see him being more benevolent here, even if only in the sense of a benevolent dictator (which he's very clear is the case, he says so himself he's the “sole authority” from now on) I guess I'm reading a lot into it, it's only two seconds of him being friendly and polite, but once my brain started going on it I couldn't stop. 

  Anyway, he restates that Haven/Manhattan is now “a class system, with all mutants as the nobility, or ruling class” and basically dictates Perkins as in charge of managing the remaining human population “answerable, of course, to me” and that she can appoint the others to any positions she sees fit to help her. He wants no more drugs, no more violent crime, no more corruption, that he wants all of the problems Manhattan had before his rule to be cleaned up. Perkins argues that corruption is inevitable in any system (I would say ESPECIALLY in this system, if the Acolytes are apparently gonna be “nobility”) Magneto counters that the corrupt are cowardly, thus they have already fled Haven, so logic dictates that there's no more corruption and he won't tolerate any. ...Magneto, your logic is not our Earth logic. Alas, this is pretty typical Magneto, he doesn't always, erm, make sense. Th police commissioner, Ramos, says he's not going to be Magneto's lapdog, that he's only going to enforce ACTUAL laws and that the police are NOT going to become Magneto's personal army. Mags smiles, tells him that he already has a private army, that he doesn't need the police “and I most certainly don't need you.” He then raises one hand in a gesture of “amusement and dismissal” and says, “Amelia, would you mind?” Amelia, for those who forgot or are just joining us, is a teleporter. She sends Ramos outside the building. She then thinks about how she could have teleported him high in the air outside and let him fall to his death, how she is “not a hardened killer, but she knew the value of an example. Still, Magneto would have been specific if he'd wanted the man dead. Her lord rarely sanctioned homicide. Much to the other Acolytes disappointment. A few things: 1) For those wondering about the “her lord” bit, that's not unique to her, all the Acolytes consider him to be their Lord. The big difference between the Acolytes and the Brotherhood is that the Acolytes revere Magneto in a RELIGIOUS sense (which I've built on especially with Anne Marie, while giving Chrome and Delgado different motives, I wanted some diversity of motivation in my crew) They even have a Book of Magnus (which I am pretty sure Fabian wrote, not Magneto) I shit you not 2) “Much to the other Acolytes disappointment” As I've said again and again, the Acolytes members that came after the first team are largely terrible people who just wanna kill all the “flatscans” they can. I wonder if they miss the days when Fabian let them go after hospices and school buses? Yes, really. Fabian did not keep a leash on those guys, he ENCOURAGED them to be bloodthirsty anti-human fucks. You could interpret that as anti-human bigotry on his part, I interpret it on using their rage and sadism to keep them happy and make them easier for him to control 3) Amelia, the hell do you mean you're not a hardened killer? You “made an example” EXACTLY like that in the previous books! Granted, said example was done because humans were threatening/attacking her, so it wasn't in cold blood like it would be here, but still, this is something she has JUST RECENTLY DONE 

  Magneto continues to those remaining that the Acolytes will enforce the law on the mutant population, the human police on the human. He wants Haven to be an example to the rest of the world---no drugs, full employment, a fair wage, no crime, no homelessness, no hunger. Oh Magneto, you're making Anne Marie's dreams come true. Or trying, anyway, but what's that quote about the road to hell? This is interesting though, because we're getting a glimpse of something we didn't with Genosha (at least in what I've read)---how Magneto would run things (or at least, his ideals/goals) when he's in charge. Oh, and the reason he wants Haven to be an example? “So society knows what to expect when we begin our expansion.” So, here's my question to that...Magneto is happy to let humans leave if they don't like his rules...but if he plans to expand...what happens if (as is probably his goal) he takes over the world? Where do they go then?

Magneto's last word to this lot are that “Bigotry will not be tolerated. Bigots are to be deal with most---harshly.” Amelia, like most people in the comics, knows Magneto's personal history as a Holocaust survivor (it's been presented on trial before) so she knows where this is coming from. But she wonders what would happen if she pointed out how a lot of the Acolytes are “rabid bigots” themselves, and she doubts he'll have them dealt with as harshly “but a woman could dream” (Amelia doesn't like Carmella or the Kleinstock brothers, the specific bigots she was thinking of) Now, I realize the kneejerk response here is to point out that hating the people who oppress you is not the same as bigotry, but trust me guys, she's RIGHT in this case. She is really, really right, like I cannot stress to you what a bunch of genocidal eugenicist assholes these people are. As in, they wanted to kill CHILDREN for being human. Carmella even wanted to kill a MUTANT child because he had Down Syndrome! Unlike real-life minorities, mutants not only have the power to be “reverse bigots” they actually even have a leg to stand on to “justify it” it in terms of “genetic superiority” and believe me, THE SECOND-GEN ACOLYTES USE THAT LEG. A LOT. ...also frankly, I don't think much of Amelia for being one of the “good Acolytes” because that means she's still fucking hanging out with these assholes even though she KNOWS better. You don't get points with me for being more moral than your teammates if that “morality” only amounts to “not joining in the worse stuff they do” rather than any actual opposition and/or leaving the team. And the same to Magneto for employing them, even if he tries to keep a tighter leash than Fabian did. So, the prologue ends there. The first chapter follows, and it doesn't feature Magneto at all, but it has some bits that are very, very relevant to current issues (sadly) so I thought I'd include it too since said bits are brief. CHAPTER ONE The X-Men are meeting with government liaisons Val Cooper (pro-mutant, ally, knows Xavier is their leader) and Henry Gyrich (anti-mutant, doesn't know Xavier secretly leads the X-Men but is the first villain I've seen with the sense to suspect it) discussing what to do about the Haven situation. We are told, as in last chapter, that mutants are pouring into Manhattan/Haven. We learn that the army is trying to keep them out, and that any mutants who enter are considered terrorists. So, we've got an oppressed population, many of which are likely refugees with no place better to go, coming to a place that has opened its doors to them...but the government has decided they're terrorists and is trying to keep them out. That sounds a little familiar. I understand the logic, that any mutant in Haven could potentially join Magneto's army, but “potentially” and “actually” are different things. After all, any refugee could “potentially” be a terrorist too, right?   Anyway, blah blah blah, Gyrich is a bad guy, then he tells Gambit “You're in America, speak English” and COME ON I doubt I need to spell out the significance of that. And given that it's coming from Gyrich, there's no way it's not MEANT to be significant.

This was written in 1997, you guys.

Okay, so chapter ends, basically the X-Men have seven hours to go into Manhattan and fix this or else Gyrich is going to have the island nuked and the press will claim that it wasn't the President that did it but the result of Magneto's own terrorist plot backfiring on him with catastrophic results. Because Gyrich is a bastard despite having gotten some neat character insight in the previous books . The X-Men are fucking horrified and Rogue even says “Maybe Magneto has the right idea” but since it's now six hours and forty nine minutes everyone decides they'd better bet going instead of chewing him out, and the chapter ends there. I've got to hand it to Golden, he's doing a really good job with this. Not just with Magneto characterization, but this whole set-up in general. There's a lot wrong with what Magneto is doing, and yet the good aspects are such that it's hard not to just forget the bad and root for him, at least for me. Especially since the human government is, well, Gyrich. But also good folks like Val Cooper. And as linked, we get some depth even to Gyrich. In short, Golden is really, really good at making a multi-sided conflict with multi-sided characters and challenging the reader on who to root for. At least that's my opinion. Stay tuned, folks! ALSO ONE MORE THING! I have a big question---where is Exodus? We know he's here, the first book began with him and Magneto (and Magneto thinking about him as a big purple butterfly, which I loved) But he really hasn't been seen since then, and with no explanation given as to why. This is actually pretty common, Exodus just not being in the picture for whatever reason, because he's so stupid OP that when combined with Magneto, it's pretty much game over for anyone in their way. So writers are always having to find a way to either separate them or put on of them out of commission (it's usually a coma) But here, there's no REASON thus far given for Exy's absence, he's just...not there. Even though he was earlier.  So I'm thinking/hoping that maybe in this book we get a good in-universe reason for that, rather than him just poofing because Golden realized that he'd just fucking wipe everybody out in the first book if he was around.

People with power taked those things and made total empires using all the provitions. But my city didn’t give up. People that lost everyting worked harder that ever and the next year the city was reconstructed and since that year we celebrate on February the FFF (Fiesta de las Flores y de las Frutas) that means Flower and Fruit Festival. I love that movie cause reflects all the pain of those poor citizens but the determination of the ambateños (My city is called Ambato, do the math).

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 12 [I’m Glad I Was Born Here] [Final Impression]

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 12 [I’m Glad I Was Born Here] [Final Impression]

It doesn’t take long for Ouni to squash the twins’ attempt at a rebellion. He taunts them to fight him like they mean it, and this scares them enough that they don’t even attempt to lift a finger towards Ouni when he breaks their feathered flag.

Not long afterwards, Masoo dies. It seems everyone on the Mud Whale shows up for his funeral, and his old friend Kuchiba gives everyone permission to cry publicly for once.

Back in the Empire, Orka and his archivist come under attack by some masked assassins, supposedly sent by Atsali. Luckily for Orka, he doesn’t have to get his hands bloodied – his new jester Liotari takes care of the soldiers for him. Liotari is just as messed up as always, and he’s kissing up to Commander Orka so that Orka will hopefully take him along when he returns to Falaina.

At Atsali’s home, Commander Orka introduces his archivist and says the two of them are going to be getting married. She’s consumed some “sarx” (nous flesh) and this is more resistant to the nous, meaning she has more of her emotions than most people. When Atsali tries to point out that sarx is only for close relatives, Orka mentions that sarx is common in Atsali’s family and so they both have broken the rules. Orka leaves with his archivist, certain that Atsali will meet his request.  What makes the the most curious about this scene is why Liotari caved and became one of Orka’s jesters, especially after he displayed such an extreme aversion to doing so in a previous episode. Was he pressured? Threatened? Or does he really just want to return to Falaina THAT bad, and that’s what Orka used to bribe him?

Back on the Mud Whale, Suou pours through the history of their ancestors. Why the Marked live short lives. Why the Unmarked have made an oath to the Marked.

That evening Lykos is alone and feeling sorry for herself as she remembers how Chakuro ran away from her when he accidentally overheard her revealing to Rochalito why the Marked live such short lives. Emma shows up and tries to help make Lykos’ sad emotions go away, but Lykos refuses her offer.

Elsewhere Chakuro is writing still more records, and he relives some memories he had when he was younger. One is of writing with his grandfather, and the other is of writing a description of Sami on a wall somewhere on the Mud Whale so everyone would be able to remember her.  Chakuro wakes up in tears, but realizes that the reason he writes everything down is because he wants everyone to always remember those who have died.

The next day Suou calls the inhabitants of the Mud Whale together to reveal to them about why the Marked die so young. The twins show up and again try to sabotage the gathering, going so far as to use their thymia to throw a rock at Suou’s forehead. But again Ouni shows up and puts an end to the ruckus. Throughout everything, Chakuro is writing down the events as they happen.

Suddenly everything starts to shake – Falaina is starting to enter the whirlpools which mark the edge of the “cage” Falaina had spent the last hundred years in. Lykos almost falls over the edge and into the sand ocean, but Chakuro saves her. He explains to her that he’s not mad at her, just sad that he’s lost some friends, but he doesn’t think it’s right to blame Falaina for that.

Oh and Hamu’s back! Yes Chakuro’s original furry friend has a name. I had no idea either. Kokalo leaps up into the air and turns into Falaina’s wings, which causes the shaking to stop. Everyone on the Mud Whale starts singing and dancing together, performing some kind of dance or ritual. Suou tells Ouni that when they land in Amonlogia and meet new people, he’d like Ouni to be the leader of that new community.

In the final moments of the episode, we see Commander Orka gets his new ship complete with a new fleet of soldiers, while inside the Mud Whale Falaina appears to wake up. Also Nelli makes a reappearance, albeit a quick one! Lastly Lykos reaffirms for Chakuro that she wants to stay with him and the others on the Mud Whale. What will happen when they reach Amonlogia??

Final Impression

You’ll have to pardon me if I just gush all over this show because it’s been an incredible season, and I’m really sad this show is over! I mean the notes at the end of the credits say that the story is going to be continued, so I’m hoping there will be a second season at some point, but I’m just so impatient! ^^;;

Story: To me personally, it feels like not a lot happened this season. There was a brief setup and a half before the Mud Whale was attacked, there was the preparation for the second attack and then that whole battle, and then the aftermath. I dunno. I guess it just feels different because three quarters of the material took place in the same location, and without new changes in scenery, the season’s events felt a little stagnant. However I think this is more a criticism of my stupid brain than the show itself, so I’m not about to dock Kujira no Kora any points.

If anything I’m going to throw points at this show for having a really interesting premise. This show captured my interest from the moment I saw the preview, and I feel very fortunate that I got to have this show all to myself. x3

Characters: I think Lykos is my favourite character, with Chakuro as a very close second. I do wish Sami had been alive for longer, as she was really cute and I liked her friendship/crush with Chakuro. Oh man, that episode where he talks to her spirit briefly just had my tears flowing.  ;~;

There was a lot of character development, which is always pleasing to see. Not so much with Chakuro but more with characters like Suou and Ouni. Ouni goes from being an intimidating bowel mole to an independent spirit, someone who has experienced loss and a near-death experience to become a stronger individual. As for Suou he becomes a leader of a group of people and must deal with new information and concepts thrown his way, things he’d never even dreamed of because the Council kept most of it a secret. And then he must also put his own feelings aside so he can share this new information with his people and make a wise decision based on what he’s learned. That can’t be easy, and it definitely requires an open mind. The ideas and expectations of the people who live on the Mud Whale change a lot over the course of the season, and a lot of that change is thanks to Suou.

The character I disliked the most? It’s a tie between Orka and Liotari. If I had to pick one then definitely Liotari; his psychopathic nature unnerves me. >>;

Music & Animation: For me, being the animation whore, this category is where Kujira no Kora really shines. The animation – well where do I begin? It’s a wonderful blend of 2D and 3D, with neither outshining the other. Things like thymia, the sand ocean and Falaina’s wings are obviously 3D,but most of Kujira no Kora is done in a “traditional-looking” 2D. It’s just honest-to-god so fucking gorgeous, and is easily the most beautiful show I’ve seen in years. And the blending of 2D and 3D is done perfectly.

And the music? I fucking love both the opening and ending themes (“Sono Saki e” by RIRIKO and Hashitairo” by rionos, respectively), and the themes played throughout the show fit perfectly. If I ever find a copy of the soundtrack I am definitely picking it up.

Overall Thoughts: Beautiful show with incredible animation, and a unique plot to boot, then I definitely recommend watching Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau! I honestly have no criticisms about this show, and have no reason to give it anything other than a perfect score. I’ll be re-watching it for sure when it premieres on Netflix in 2018. Also, I’m highly considering picking up the manga. (For those who’ve read Kujira no Kora‘s manga, is the manga or the anime better?)

11. your OC’s description of their game’s events

Hello! Thank you @strafethesesinners for sending this in! I did create something that was along these lines as admittedly it was something I was wanting to write for a little while as it was. But it is within game events. So that being said have a little bit of Carly during the events of A Realm Reborn towards the end of it. If you know the parts I’m quoting then congrats you have played these instances just as much as I have!

Anyway! Enjoy Carly for a full 1.2k! No warnings and spoilers for A Realm Reborn.

Her thick heels clank against the metal as she walks forward shaking her head, clicking her tongue. “Messy, messy, messy,” Carly says, eyes piercing at all the destruction, “And not even the good kind.” She stops, crossing her arms and popping her hip, looking down at the fallen legatus as he gives a half-hearted groan, “God you look pathetic like this, Gaius. Oh how the mighty self-absorbed fall.” She gives a light kick to the man’s stomach, “Maybe next time don’t enjoy the sound of your voice so much?” She shakes her head, “I could never imagine being around someone who talks as much as you. ‘Only a man of power can rightly steer the course of civilization’,” she says mockingly with a snort, “‘For none among you have the power to stop me.’ Puh-lease.”

The sudden change in pressure of the air around her induces an eye roll, “All this power and he still couldn’t wield it properly. So much for the strength of man.”

“Well that’s what you get for entrusting it to a man, La-ha-ha.” Carly’s smug smile leaves when she takes in the Ascian’s vessel, “Did you really have to deprive this world of another pretty face? You could have had anyone in the world and you chose Boy Toy?”

He lets out a growl, rolling his eyes, “Easy pickings and the best way to hurt those Scions.”

“You mean, Minfilia. She’s a soft heart, you didn’t need to go to such extreme measures.” Carly bends down picking up Gaius’ sword, looking it over, “Real tragic, especially because you know that warrior of theirs is going to have no choice but to kill him or leave him for dead. Personally I could never trust him so I’d just leave-.”

“By my understanding they are yours for the taking,” Lahabrea’s frown deepens, crossing his arms, “and yet you’re dawdling.”

She gives the sword a twirl, stabbing at the air in front of her, “You know this asshole passed me over for that Livia woman? She was subpar and mediocre at best. I wouldn’t have failed you.” Carly purses her lips a moment, “Then again if you hadn’t passed me over I wouldn’t have the position I do now.”

“Carly,” he snaps, the young woman cocking a brow as she slowly slides her gaze towards him, “Hydaelyn’s champion is getting away as we speak.”

“Oh damn, guess you better get a move on then. I want to gloat just a little longer.”

“I would hate to see you disappoint.”

“Me? Disappoint?” She laughs, throwing her head back, “La-ha-ha I never disappoint. And I wouldn’t have had you not lost my only objective for being in this dump of a desert in the first place.”

“But the-.”

“Is a you problem. Not mine. So go and be a good little underling and capture that big, scary warrior everyone keeps talking about.” The Ascian growls, Carly clapping her hands in tempo when he doesn’t leave, “Chop, chop, La-ha-ha. You wouldn’t want little ol’ Emmie to hear how much you fucked up this time. He might just finally send Stasia your way to put an end to your little reign.”

Lahabrea growls, eyes narrowed to slits, “That brute of yours can’t protect you forever. So I will take care of this myself, seeing as you find yourself incapable.”

“I’m not incapable, I just don’t have anything to prove,” Carly gives a scoff, “Besides I like a bit of a challenge with my fights and they seem more to your level of skill.” She waves him off, giving the legatus one last kick as she steps over him, “Now if you don’t mind, I’ve been away from my beloved long enough. Because unlike you, we actually manage to do our jobs correctly the first time.” The Ascian grinds his teeth, metal claws digging into the palms of his vessel’s hand drawing blood, “Till next time La-ha-ha, if there will be one.”

Lahabrea takes a deep breath calling out, “Prove it to me then. Prove to me that they are of no challenge for you.” Carly stops, looking over her shoulder, “I don’t believe I have ever seen your skills put to use when it so clearly seems Lord Zenos does most of the work.”

“I hardly know you, I have nothing to prove.”

“Don’t you?” He teleports to stand in front of her, “I know what the people say about you. Know that they do not believe you are capable of even swinging around that little sword of yours.”

The blade slices the air, sharp edge finding a place against his throat, “Bite your tongue, or I will make sure this one and every body you have after will have none.”

His lips curve, “Tell me, Carly, what would Stasia say if you let Eorzea’s Champion get away to fight another day?”

Her jaw locks as she tosses the legatus’ blade into the fires, “Give me five minutes. I’ll have your stupid champion on their knees in front of you.” It doesn’t take her long to climb high enough to spot the warrior attempting to navigate the maze of destruction. She watches and waits as the warrior stumbles closer towards her until finally letting herself jump down with a flip landing on her feet with ease. She looks up with a smile, “Eorzea’s Champion I take it?” Their eyes narrow, body starting to angle away, “Guess I’ll take that as a yes.”

Carly lunges for them, hand catching hold of their fist, twisting their wrist. They hiss in pain as Carly sweeps their legs from under them, free hand clutching their throat. Her nails dig in as they gasp, flailing to get a few hits that hardly faze her with their weakened state. She pushes them down, hand clinging to their throat and knee on their chest to hold them in place as she tears a line of fabric from the warrior’s clothing. “See this is what can be done if you don’t like to hear the sound of one’s voice so much,” she grumbles as she fights with the warrior to get one wrist tied. Once it is she stands quickly turning them to bind the other behind their back. “Ah, there we go!” She laughs as she watches them struggle to break free, pulling out a dagger to place against their neck. 

“Keep fighting and this,” she whispers in their ear, letting the blade slice their neck enough to release blood, “will find its way deeper into your neck.” The warrior lets out a low growl as they stop struggling, “Good little warrior,” Carly purrs, “I’m glad to see you know how to obey. Now walk.” Carly guides them to a clearing, looking around a moment. “Oh La-ha-ha! I have a present for you!”

The Ascian appears before her, red sigil masking their face a moment to reveal bared teeth, “They’re alive! Why are they still breathing, Carly? Incompetent-.”

“Tis the blessing of light that confounds you,” she responds in a exaggerated deep voice, before pushing the warrior forward so they land on their knees, “I never said I would kill them, La-ha-ha, just that I would have them in front of you on their knees within five minutes.” 

“I am ordering-.”

“I do not take orders, especially from you. I told you already, this is a you problem. So fix it. Should be easy enough for you now since ‘your enemy’s shield has been broken’.” Carly turns, waving as she finally makes her way out of the Praetorium, “Ta-ta, have fun with your little pet, La-ha-ha.”
