Sugi-No-Okata

I have finally completed this piece of my interpretation of Mōri Motonari's step mother Sugi-No-Okata.

And ofc her design was inspired by the typical Disney villain look because Maleficent's and Queen Grimhilde's designs are very dramatic. 😌

And ofc parts of her story was inspired by Lady Guo Nuwang in The Three Kingdoms period and ofc with the way Basara portrays Motonari. 😈

Only though in my fanon, she never influenced him into worshipping the sun goddess and she never was a loving step mother, and she never influenced him in any shape or form.

Instead she is one of Motonari's worst enemies.

In my fanon, she is a concubine of the Amago clan and ofc Amago Tsunehisa's lover and ofc she is Haruhisa's paternal grandmother as he never loved Kikkawa Kunitsune's sister as the marriage like usual was arranged.

And with Tsunehisa's permission, Sugi slipped poison into her rival's tea only to desecrate her body after her death.

Sugi does help prevent the Amago clan from being converted to Xavism, and when Luís and Anjiro and a few others to storm Izumo, and ofc Luís isn't there to fight. He's there to help spread Xavism after the Amago is defeated but ofc they are driven out.

Luís however was taken prisoner but later managed to escape.

While he met Sugi, he was pretty horrified by her as she commited something that horrified him and when Luís escaped he told the story about was going on up there in Gossantoda castle.

And at some Xavist sermons, Luís would put out this motivational speech to Otomo troops, he mentions Sugi but he calls her "The Jezebel Within Gassantoda Castle Walls".

Sugi however knew about this but she wasn't offended, nor did she run away from that title, she embraced it.

As she was proud that she could instill intimidation and fear into any man she pleases.

Years later, Tsunehisa would task Sugi to bring forth the downfall of the Mōri clan and she quickly caught the attention of Mōri Hiromoto who was quickly bewitched by her charms, not even realizing that he was falling ill to alcohol poisoning.

As for her rival Lady Fukubara, Motonari's and Okimoto's biological mother. Hiromoto fancied Sugi so much that he began neglect his own wife to the point that she began writing letters to him asking him to come and visit her but to no avail.

Sugi began to tell lies about her and began creating tension between Hiromoto and Lady Fukubara and even planting seeds of suspicion in Hiromoto's head that both Okimoto and Shōjumaru were not his sons but rather Akagawa Motoyasu's sons despite how ridiculous these claims were.

Lady Fukubara later lost her husband's favor altogether, and without thinking he ordered for Sugi to dispose of his wife.

But due to his weakened state, he regains his senses and orders for the order to be retracted but it was already too late, as Lady Fukubara was already dead causing Hiromoto to feel immense regret, but he too would follow his wife a few years later.

For Shōjumaru though it would be hell as he knew Sugi was responsible for the death of his mother, and he was very afraid of his step mother.

And ofc Shōjumaru was very close with his mother as her death traumatized him throughout his childhood that he would try to find comfort in Lady Guifei who played the role of a wet nurse for him when Lady Fukubara had health issues after giving birth to her second son and ofc Miya's mother, Lady Takahashi.

As Hiromoto began to succumb to alcohol poisoning, Sugi wanted to makesure that after she had rid of Okimoto, that his younger brother would be weak and unable to succeed in life.

After Okimoto discovered a bruise on Shōjumaru's face, he would send him to live with visit Miya and her family just to keep him safe as Okimoto would become very protective of little Shōjumaru after discovering that it was Sugi who struck him across the head for reading a book.

And ofc Sugi had to figure out on how to get rid of Okimoto as he was taller than her and could easily overpower her.

And ofc she would use some kind of magic to weaken Okimoto's muscles and give him to Matsunaga Hisahide as a gift years later.

While Sugi is into refined men like Tsunehisa, she was flattered by Hisahide but he ofc saw her as nothing but someone who gave him a servant. Perhaps her blood lust was too much for him? Who knows.

Since my fanon has had a lot of changes, I am figuring out what my basara Okuni's relationship with my Sugi and what she thinks of her.

But for now before Okuni would spend time in Mikkawa, she would take notice of how whenever Sugi walked by him, as ofc Motonari was very suspicious and fearful of Sugi.

When Ieyasu and Masako would ask Okuni if Motonari is always what he seems to be, she replied "When lord brother, erm I mean Lord Motonari was in Oshikibata, he dreaded Otomo Sōrin's's influence in Kyushu and feared Amago Haruhisa's presence in Izumo sometimes on the border of Aki. Even in home territory he was afraid that Lady Sugi would cause trouble."

As ofc after Okimoto went missing, and Motonari became the new head of the Mōri clan after Kōmatsumaru also went missing causing Yuki to be horrified by both the disappearance of both her husband and son.

Sugi was also very disapproving of Motonari's relationship with Miya due to her lack of backing of status from her family the Kikkawa clan but only had this fake facade on as to pretending to keep what is right for him, but it was not enough to keep Motonari and Miya apart.

Sugi was ofc very angered about Motonari's success in defeating the Amago clan, but due to him putting Okuni in charge of Izumo, but because Okuni was in charge of Izumo, Sugi saw potential in Okuni as she was ofc biologically a member of the Amago clan as her mother was from there, but her father was low in terms of status, but to Sugi this didn't matter as Okuni could be what could bring back the Amago clan once her plans come to fruition.

Other cruel things I want to have happen to Kiyomasa ? Well:

I want to see Kiyomasa humiliated in some way. He’s so prideful and he tends to say whatever he wants without caring whether it upsets other people (or simply because it upsets other people and he gets some satisfaction out of that), so it’d be interesting to see someone so utterly outclass him at something that all he can do is just stare in disbelief at them while he loses / is defeated / etc.

I want to see Kiyomasa get converted to Xavism. It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s for real or whether he’s just pretending to convert for some reason (e.g. to get Kanbei out of Xavism again, to gather intelligence on the Nation of Xavism, etc.), although it’d be a lot easier for him to pretend to convert. I want him to be weirded out / feel humiliated by the antics of the Xavists and/or have to join in with their antics. Maybe he can even become involved in the money scams that they’re running. Now that I think of it, if Kiyomasa makes a big enough name for himself as a strategist, the Xavists will probably try to recruit him anyways like they did with Motonari and Kanbei, right ? XD

I want Kiyomasa to be vulnerable around someone, whether it’s with a romantic partner or a friend or whoever. Kiyomasa always smiles and speaks politely, but that’s just a mask that he uses to distance himself from people. I want him to be hurt or be in trouble or just be in some sort of situation that he can’t get out of by himself. I want him to learn that he has to rely upon and work with other people, and that he doesn’t have all the answers to everything just because he has some smarts.

I want someone to call Kiyomasa out for something bad he’s done. Mostly because, in Battle Party, it seemed like he usually either won or outclassed other people and never really got punished for things (other than Tadakatsu beating him in a fight because he bullied Komatsu). For example, maybe he gets called out for abandoning his village and his mother for the sake of pursuing his own ambitions. Maybe he gets called out for sleeping with several people and not committing / refusing to commit / being vague about his commitment to one of them. Maybe he gets called out for being a grown man bullying a teenage girl (Komatsu) just because he’s grown cynical about samurai society and hates upper-class samurai even when they’re kind and want to do more to help out (like Komatsu). Maybe he gets called out for being willing to kill tens of thousands of people just because he wants to show off how good of a strategist he is. There are probably a lot of other things you could call him out for, but that’s what’s on my mind at the moment.

I want to see Kiyomasa genuinely becoming loyal to the Toyotomi despite his commitment issues, only to choose to betray them once Hideyoshi and Hanbei are dead and Mitsunari’s in charge because Kiyomasa can’t stand working with Mitsunari. I could see Kiyomasa live on by serving Ieyasu but still feel guilt and nostalgia for the “good days” he had when he was working for Hideyoshi and Hanbei.

I want to see Kiyomasa fall in love. I want to see him have to struggle to choose between what he wants to do emotionally vs. what he knows in his head he needs to do to carry out his plans. I want to see him struggle to choose between his loved one and his ambition. I want him to actually try to commit to someone for once, and I want to see him struggle with that. Bonus points if he can’t be with the one he loves and/or his love is unrequited, because he’ll have to deal with the person he loves being just out of his reach, he’ll have to face the fact that he can’t just sleep with everyone he wants, and/or he’ll learn that not everyone is willing to put up with his prideful and at times grating personality.

1. What’s your philosophy in life?

❛❛ My life philosophy is to pursue justice and eliminate evil at any cost. I have trained to meet this challenge ever since I was a child. To enrich my mind, I was educated on a variety of subjects, including history and ethics. Even as an adult, I still read literature from time to time, especially if it pertains to morals. To keep my body healthy, I learned how to used a katana and buckler, and I still train every day. In addition, I was taught to have moderation and self-discipline in all things. Evil grows in a person’s heart when they indulge in worldly pleasures. To strengthen my spirit, I’ve faced the truths of this world, even when they’re painful. Having witnessed how evil harms innocent people, I’ve vowed never to forgive any villains. ❜❜

2. What’s the one thing you would like to change about yourself?

❛❛ Well...to be honest, I consider myself to be a rather upstanding person. I have a strong moral code and I have dedicated myself to erasing evil. If I did change for some reason, I’m not sure how that would further improve me. Therefore, I see no need to change myself. That having been said...I wish it was easier for me to speak on matters of the heart. ❜❜

3. Are you religious or spiritual?

❛❛ Most assuredly. I come from a family of devout Zen Buddhists. We even have a family temple that we’ve attended and contributed to for generations. I also believe that there are spirits of nature all around us. Some are small and meek, while others are large and powerful. However, all of them should be respected, for they shape the world around us. ❜❜

❛❛ In regards to foreign religions, however...unfortunately, I can’t say I like them. I know they appeal to my brother-in-law and Ichi, but...I really can’t approve of them ! What’s with the way they sing all the time and build those gaudy temples of theirs ? Not to mention how they conflate love and money with a suspicious amount of ease. I've tried to make nice with those foreign priests, but it’s impossible. I once filed a marriage certificate only for it to be switched with a conversion certificate. The Nation of Xavism is nothing but evil ! ❜❜

4. Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?

❛❛ ’Introvert’ and ‘extrovert’ are still new words to me, but I believe that I would be an extrovert. Anyone who knows me knows how outspoken I am. And before you say anything —– no, my words aren’t just idle prattle ! I have opinions on a variety of subjects, and I enjoy sharing my opinions with others. I also partake in discussions with all sorts of people. Even if the conversation becomes heated, it doesn’t tire me out at all. A spirited argument is just a chance for me to show someone else the error of their ways. However, at times, it can be difficult to find others who share my views. Not that it bothers me too much, though. Anyone who disagrees with me in regards to my core values is evil, after all. ❜❜

(( Katsuie doesn’t outright hate Xavism, but he is suspicious of it. All of the Western dress / dancing / singing / English / etc. from the Xavists clashes strongly against how much Katsuie values the traditions / hierarchies / expectations from his own culture. The trips that your Mitsuhide has taken him on have made Katsuie dislike Xavism more that he once had, though. XD He’s learned that he doesn’t like roller coasters, and that he should take as little money with him as possible when he goes to Xaviland ( since it’ll most certainly get stolen ). Katsuie doesn’t know either Sorin or Xavi, but he’d probably be slightly more inclined to deal with Sorin, since at least his name sounds Japanese, even if Sorin is just a kid… XD ))

(( Still —– if Katsuie ever learned a bit more about Xavism, he’d probably be at least a little tempted by the sense of belonging that the Xavists feel from being part of Xavism ( even if it’s all a sham ). I know that I joke from time to time about how Katsuie could get brainwashed into joining the Xavists —– but at times I feel like it’s a real possibility ? XD I mean, Katsuie is a guy who has no purpose in life ( but at the same time is also desperately searching for a purpose in life ), and he has no friends —– Xavism would provide him with a purpose ( albeit probably a bad / corrupt one that could get him hurt or killed ) and some ( fake ? ) friends. Besides, he already has the bob cut hairstyle —– and wouldn’t it be hilarious ( and slightly disturbing ) to see Katsuie be abnormally happy-looking and singing with all of the other Xavists ? XD ))
