Julieta: Bi Disaster (summer camp au)
Julieta and Milo were cooking breakfast for the campers one morning when Milo noticed Julieta seemed a bit distracted. He followed her gaze to see where she was looking and smirked when he realized just who she was looking at.
“You’re staring at Ren again,” he teased lightly.
“—! I am not! Just cook your eggs, Milo. Or they’ll turn out runny - again.”
“Wh— hey, my eggs are perfectly fine! Maybe if someone wasn’t watching girls all morning, they’d see that.”
“Shh…” Julieta kept her face down, trying to hide she was blushing as she concentrated on her eggs.
They cooked in silence a few moments before Milo spoke up again. “So… is ‘senorita perfecta’ a little bit gay?” He teased.
“I’m not perfect,” she rolled her eyes at the nickname.
“Oh I know; if you were, your cooking would be better.”
Julieta snapped her head up, debating whether to elbow him or make a snide comment in return.
“Hey, you didn’t answer my question.”
Julieta blushed again. “I-I’m not gay. I definitely like guys…”
“But…?”
Julieta sighed, preparing herself mentally to admit this aloud. “But… turns out, I like girls, too.”
Milo smiled and clapped Julieta on the back congratulatory like.
As they started getting the food ready to serve to the campers, Milo continued to nudge Julieta about this new discovery. “So… Ren, huh? I thought you were crushing on Elena.”
“I think Elena just awoke something inside me… Wait, how do you know about that?” She paused a moment before grumbling under her breath. “Pepa…” That was told in confidence; of course she blabbed.
“Hey,” came a husky voice that set a small fire to Julieta’s loins.
Work, brain. Say something back! Don’t just stand there! Julieta’s brain was racing a mile a minute while she stared dumbfounded at her fellow counselor. Her fellow attractive counselor. She finally spoke up, barely managing a “Sup?” Sup? Are you for real right now? What is wrong with you?
Ren grinned and sort of gave her a head nod. “The campers are on their way.”
There she was again, frozen to the spot, unable to come up with a normal response. “Dope.” The word tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop it. She just knew her cheeks were completely flushed, and her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest.
Once Ren turned away to go help usher the young campers in to line up for breakfast, Milo leaned over and said to Julieta with a mocking snicker, “Dope”.
Julieta hid her face in her hand. “Ay, Dios mío… Just kill me…” she groaned, embarrassed.

Reyes Introduction Drabble
by @xclearskiesx
Bruno Madrigal was heading toward the library. It was his favorite place to go when he wanted to escape the hecticness of life. Before he had completely escaped into the walls for ten years, that is. As he became more distant from his family, he would always come to the library for a breather. His good friend Reyes, who managed the library desk, would always be kind enough to let him go into the back room where only employees were allowed. There he would either chat with his friend, write or draw in his notebook, or if he was especially overwhelmed, he might take a nap there.
Of course, it had been ten years, but Reyes had welcomed back his friend with open arms. While the main reason he was going to the library now was to escape the overbearingness of his family as they fussed over him, Bruno also was excited to see his dear friend. As he headed to town, he had a little spring in his step.
Reyes Correa sighed a little as he shelved books. He normally enjoyed his job, but ever since Casita had fallen and been rebuilt - and most importantly, since Bruno had returned, he had been a little antsy at work. He found himself hoping his dear friend would walk in, though he knew he must be very busy with his family. He knew he couldn’t be selfish. He had a lot of people who loved him and had been missing him for years, but Reyes sure wanted his share of Bruno, too.
Ever since the mountains opened up, new people started coming to the Encanto. Reyes scanned the room, noticing a couple of new faces in the library. One in particular headed toward him. “You work here?”
“Sí. Can I help you?”
“Your book selection sucks.” The man was a bit gruff and blunt, but he didn’t scare Reyes.
“I’m sorry. We have been a small community for years so we only have the books donated by the people who live here. If you know anyone who has books they’d like to donate, feel free to send them my way.” Reyes kept a cheery disposition as the man rolled his eyes in a huff, walking away. Out of the corner of his eye, Reyes saw a glimpse of that green ruana that was unmistakably Bruno. A grin spread across his face, and he hurried to greet the man. “Bruno, hi!”
The man was looking a little healthier than he did since the last time he saw him. Not by much, but Reyes could tell Bruno’s family - probably most likely one sister in particular - was keeping him well fed. He looked happier, too. Reyes noticed he didn’t have the hood of his ruana on as was usual for him once. No, Bruno was not hiding under his hood; in fact, he was smiling, seemingly just as happy to see Reyes as he was to see him. “H-hey,” he flashed a sort of crooked grin.
“I was hoping you’d come by,” Reyes smiled, tucking a bit of hair behind his ear, suddenly a bit shy.
“I would’ve come by sooner, but my family is… I love my family, but truth be told, I’m a bit overwhelmed by all their love right now. There’s ten years to catch up on, and so many family members to spend time with. It’s a lot, especially for someone who hasn’t seen the sun in years…Heh.” He rubbed his arm, a bit nervous suddenly.
There was the Bruno Reyes remembered. Sweet, shy, a little nervous. It made him want to kiss him right on the mouth - to kiss those nerves away, but that would be too bold. He had no idea how Bruno felt, and he didn’t want to ruin anything, but Reyes would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little in love with the man.
They chatted for a while, enjoying each other’s company. Reyes had plenty to talk about - books he’d read, things he’d been writing. Bruno was also a writer; they could compare notes. And, of course, Bruno had plenty of stories to tell about his family. The man truly loved his family. When Bruno was getting ready to go, Reyes said, “Hey, weren’t you here to get a book?” He realized they had been talking for quite a while, and Bruno never looked for a book.
“Oh,” Bruno blushed lightly. “I uh…” he cleared his throat a little, hoping the fire to his cheeks weren’t noticeable. “I came to see you.”
That made Reyes smile.
They were then interrupted by that same gruff man from before. “Hey, you’re Bruno Madrigal, aren’t you? Why don’t you give me a vision?”
It wasn’t a suggestion. The man’s tone was commanding.
Bruno looked to the large man apologetically. “I’m sorry; I’m not quite up to giving visions yet. I’ve got to build my strength back up.”
“Let me rephrase myself. Give. Me. A. Vision.” The big man loomed over the smaller man threateningly.
Bruno slipped the hood of his ruana over his head, getting nervous.
“The man said no!” Reyes glared at the rude man.
“Oh? And what are you gonna do about it?”
Reyes thought fast, quickly grabbing the largest book within his eyesight, holding it high above him and whacking the man on the back of the head. The book must’ve been as heavy as Reyes had hoped, for the large man fell unconscious.
“Damn,” Bruno said softly, amazed at what had just happened.
The adrenaline that had driven Reyes was wearing off, and he could feel the quick beat of his heart against his chest. “You better go. I doubt he’ll be out long.”
“T-thank you, Reyes.”
Reyes leaned forward and kissed the man on the cheek with a shy smile. “It was nothing. I couldn’t stand by while that douche spoke to you that way.”
Bruno held a hand to the cheek that had been kissed, blushing a little with a little smile. He glanced down, noticing the man start to stir and knew he had to hurry off. He wanted to return the kiss gesture, but there was no time right now. He’d just have to repay Reyes for that kiss later.

S.P.L.A.T. Server Summer Secret Santa 2022
At the beginning of July, some of the amazing, creative people that make up the @splat-precipice group proposed a summertime secret santa event, centered around Encanto and its characters; ones that are canon, as well as our beloved original characters that we've crafted, from the well of shared inspiration (read: complete and utter brainrot) that is this movie.
Names were anonymously drawn in pairs, handed out, and, after a month, we all reconvened to share our gifts with one another. Writers wrote, artists arted, and some people even did both, or surprised us with another medium entirely!!!
Below you'll find the full collection of these gifts from 16 participants. It's a huge amassing of everyone's talent, and was amazingly fun to be a part of!!! I hope everyone who took part enjoyed, and will look forward to more in the future!!!
(P.S. If you don't recognize some of the characters in these works, you can find out more about them by checking out the pinned post on the @splat-precipice tumblr page, where there's a link to an OC master list for the group!!)

These lyrics were written for me by the fantastically talented @xclearskiesx! This entire reprise was originally meant to go at the start, but I wound up changing what I wanted to set up. Still, I loved Alma’s verse too much to not use it, so here it is, five months later. (Yowza.)
I would loved to have focused more on Alma’s perspective in this story. Comics as a medium don’t lend themselves well to elaboration, but a lot has been left unsaid about Alma and Mirabel’s changed relationship.
Emily is a wonderful musician and singer. Her music is on SoundCloud, which also has some Encanto Fansongs!

Spring Ball: Milena
Lady Julieta watched in the mirror as her lady's maid, Milena, did the last finishing touches of the updo she had styled her hair in. Simple, yet elegant - just how Julieta preferred her hair.
"How do you like it?" Milena stood back, hands folded with a small smile.
"Beautiful, as always. You always do such a wonderful job with my hair. Thank you."
"Oh, I'm not that good...I'm really best at braids," she stopped short, blushing bright pink at the image in her mind of braiding Lady Pepa's hair.
Julieta did notice the blushing but said nothing about it, instead changing the subject. "And the gown you helped me pick out is just perfect!" The girl did a careful twirl, smiling at herself in the mirror. "I'm a little nervous, to tell you the truth." The first ball of the season, and it would be all about first impressions. They were to that age where their mother was most certainly hinting that they needed to be wed soon and ought to mingle with people of their class, in hopes of finding a suitor to marry.
"Nobody would be able to tell; you appear so calm, milady!"
"Well, I don't quite wear my emotions on my sleeves like my sister."
There it was - the warm feeling returning to Milena's cheeks at the mention of Pepa. She really was trying so hard to keep that under control, but the girl just did things to her. Milena couldn't find words to respond to Julieta; they only came out in a stutter.
However, just in time it seemed, Lady Madrigal poked her head in the door, stating that the carriage was ready for them.
"Milena? Go fetch my other two children. Tell them we must leave at once if we are not to be intolerably late. Julieta? Come," the woman beckoned for her daughter to follow. It was time to go to the ball.
Milena bowed to the two women before leaving the room to go pass the message along. Her heart sped up fast as she got closer to Lady Pepa's room. She forgot her manners and sort of barged in without announcing herself, causing Pepa to jump.
Before she lost her nerve, she quickly repeated what she was told to tell them. Noticing Pepa was blushing, her cheeks immediately grew red, as well. She could barely hear Pepa's lady's maid, Aleja speaking to her over the sound of her own rapid heartbeat. Once she was out of the room, she let out a deep breath, trying to calm herself before heading to deliver the message to the third Madrigal triplet.
She muttered to herself under her breath as she walked, "You are just a maid, you are just a maid, you are just a maid," trying to give herself a reality check. She wasn't paying attention as she hurried in the direction of Lord Bruno's room and managed to trip over her own feet once she arrived.
Bruno was already opening his door as Milena was tripping, so she fell right at his feet. He looked down, raising an eyebrow. "Uh, you okay?" He awkwardly held out a hand to help her up.
Milena took his hand and accepted the help up, stepping back immediately in embarrassment once she was standing again. "Ah - thank you," she stammered. "Lady Madrigal says we need to go now, or we will be late."
"Uh, right," Lord Bruno cleared his throat, clearly distracted - likely anxious about the ball. "Thank you. You, uh - you better hurry along and catch up with Julieta and my mother. Wouldn't want her getting mad - my mother, that is. You know. She can be scary." He smiled sheepishly, shooing Milena along, which was in her best interest, really.
