how much does it actually cost to charter those boats all the barça girls seem to be on right now? 😅 like is it something ”regular” spanish people do in summer?
oh yeah, in my experience it's quite common, but there are all types of options for all types of budgets. not everything is a super fancy yacht. and sometimes your school friends' parents have their own boat (which is the best case scenario!😅)
but i've done catamaran and smaller boat charters with friends and loved ones from around € 500-800 per group. when you split it up among a group of friends, it ends up being more economical and a lot of times they throw in lunch or snacks/drinks. that's why you'll often see friend groups on these charters like with patri/pina earlier this week and cata coll below. the ibiza-formentera route is pretty popular.
but also keep in mind that a lot of times these players are gifted trips by their agencies or resorts on the islands and that often includes these types of day trips on the water.
it's not just spain though. i've also had the same experience in greece. rented a private catamaran charter last summer in santorini and it ended up being around € 750-800 for 8 people with lunch/drinks.

2 & 24 for the very normal fic game please Lola 😂
i had SO much fun pestering everyone with these yesterday i kind of forgot to do my own, so sorry for lateness!
2. If you put all your fics into a crockpot, what would be the resulting soup?
well, straight up the soup is very gay. it's a homosexual minestrone and that's exactly how i want it. i think the base would be a mash up between comedy and pining, with a dash of truly unhinged. the annoying celery bits would be slow burn and the yummy pasta shells would be the smut that i try to make different every time. the herbs on top (just a sprinkling) would be explicit and enthusiastic consent, themes of self doubt, finding your person and choosing to love someone on purpose, despite their flaws.
24. If your WIP fell into a vat of toxic waste, how would it change?
i'm going to go with Eurotrip - uhh okay so they get on a yacht at some stage in spain and during the charter orcas surround their boat and sink it to the bottom of the ocean. the orcas don't eat them because there's basically no evidence of that happening in the wild, they're just salty about boats on their turf so they break it. alex and henry become stranded on a remote island before realising after like 5 days that they're actually just on a less touristy iberian island and that civilisation isn't that far and they don't have to act like tom hanks in castaway. anyway, they get themselves stitched up, have a fight with their insurance companies about the boat and then go back to their respective countries, never to speak to each other again.
[cursed asks, if you want]
[orcas sinking boats because they're badasses]

Hey, Sis,
So, I've been thinking about putting together a bucket list. I had one a long time ago and my ex saw it and helped me to cross some of those off. He took me horseback riding for my birthday. Of course, we didn't have a guide and we needed one cause the horses knew we didn't know what we were doing and mine stopped to eat grass and i told him to go and he tried to buck me off. Needless to say, we had to change horses. But that was cool. I'd like to do it in a situation where I had a guide, or someone could teach me a thing or two first.
He took me to The Grand Canyon. We didn't get to stay long but I definitely saw it. Well, part of it, lol. I definitely want to go back and see a different part or look at it a bit longer. And he helped me with a few others.
Anyway, I had been thinking about this - before I even met you and learned of your love of cherries - but I have ALWAYS wanted to try Cherries Jubilee. I mean, always. I absolutely LOVE Bananas Foster - it is my all-time favorite dessert. We have a Cajun restaurant here that makes it, but it's mostly ice cream, lol. I've had it once where there was a lot more banana and a lot more Foster and that was good too. But I am putting Cherries Jubilee on my list. I know of no one who serves it. So ... I will probably only get it if I ever go on a cruise that offers it, or I make it. But I'm going to work it out.
That leads me to going on a cruise. But it has to be the right one to the right place, because I am not rich. I am not married to Izzy Stradlin unfortunately. I will get to go on one cruise. And really, did he ever have to go on a cruise? I mean, he probably had a yacht chartered once or twice. What am I saying? Probably a lot of times. I think he once performed at a wedding in St. Tropez and another one in Spain, so ... I digress. Sorry.
So:
Cherries Jubilee
Cruise
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Graceland / Memphis
Washington D.C.
(I didn't go on the 8th grade trip - sure wish I had cause it would have been much cheaper with the whole student discount/8th grade program the government works out with the schools. Did you go on it?)
Oh ... I think I want to try Caviar one time. Not a lot. Just once.
Hmmm ... a couple I will not share here, lol. But I still think they are very necessary and worthwhile endeavors!
So, these are not goals, but just things to check off.
Have you done any or all of the things on my bucket list above? Have you had Cherries Jubilee, and if so, where?! Actually, I'm pretty sure you've been to Graceland - and I know you have been to Memphis. Just unsure of the rest!
Love,
Your Sis xoxoxo
I have done three of the things on your bucket list: Graceland twice, two cruises, and Washington DC.
The DC trip was my 8th grade class trip. I would love to go back now because I feel like I didn’t appreciate it as much back then as I would now.
I have been to GL twice, once when I was 17 and another time probably about 9 or 10 years ago with Eric. Of course, I’ve been to Memphis, I’m still here. 😆
One cruise was when I was 8. My mom and stepdad took my sister (who was 18 at the time) and her boyfriend and me on the Disney cruise/Bahamas for my sister’s graduation present. I got a cruise for MY grad present too, but ours was a bit different: a three day cruise to the Bahamas (on a smaller cruise ship, where I was seasick the first night), then 4 days in Orlando for all things Disney. Just me, my mom, and my 6 month preggo sister. Fun fact about the Disney cruise when I was 8: they thought it would be funny to feed me escargot, so they ordered me a dish, told me it was PORK, and I loved it so much, they ordered me a second dish. I did not find out until much later that escargot = SNAILS lol. I was not as grossed out as I probably should’ve been, and I’ve had it a few times since then. I still love it. Go figure.
I have also had caviar. I love that too. Goes great with smoked salmon and cream cheese on some fancy ass crackers.
Never had cherries jubilee, but it sounds yummy.
The R&RHOF would be fun. I love doing that kind of shit.
🖤🖤 Shells

When Should I Take a Private Yacht Charter
Where do you want to go on a private yacht charter vacation? There are limitless possibilities, according to crewed yacht brokers. Popular destinations for a United States sailing vacation include San Diego, Chicago, Yachts Cayman, Honolulu, Hilton Head, Martha's Vineyard, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, Long Island and Annapolis, yet why stop there? A whole lot more awaits you, which are all discoverable by power boats and luxury yacht charters!
A Mediterranean private yacht charter has much to offer. In Spain, you can discover the passionate flamingo dancers and proud matadors, sip sangria, eat delicious olives and enjoy modern marinas from Barcelona to Valencia. Euro club goers and party animals can't miss the amazing entertainment venues on Ibiza, where vibrant beaches are as world renowned as the nightlife.
Some of the other Balearic Islands offer a quieter respite, from the secluded beaches of Formentera, to the cobble street village of Cindadella, to the culture-rich fishing village of Mallorca to the National Park on Dragonera. Other Mediterranean destinations include Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France and Italy.
For those chilly winter months, why not take a private yacht charter to the warm Caribbean waters? Travelers come to the Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Florida Keys and the Bahamas for the white sandy beaches, the pleasant trade winds, turquoise waters, West Indian cuisine and fun activities year-round.
There are more than 100 Virgin Islands, offering a plethora of coves for snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, surfing, marine-life watching and lounging. On the shores, you will enjoy dancing, frozen blender drinks, crafts from local artisans and the dramatic mountain peak topography.
In the Bahamas, you can feast on spicy cuisine, fish on beautiful beaches, snorkel underwater grottos, gaze upon a habitat of 60,000 flamingos, star gaze the midnight skies, dance in nightclubs and splash around at the world-renowned Atlantis water-park and culture center. A sailing charter in the Cayman Islands will whisk you away to the famous Seven Mile Beach (one of the best in the world!), the historic Pedro St. James castle, scuba diving shipwrecks in Cayman Brac, bird watching the rare red-footed Booby on Little Cayman and partaking in the museums and shops of George Town. Nothing beats the winter blues like a Caribbean yacht excursion!

Team Orca strikes again!
Orcas Sink 50-Foot Yacht Off the Coast of Morocco
Story by Sarah Kuta
 • 3h • 4 min read
Tumblr media
The boat-ramming orcas are back in action: Two people had to be rescued from a sailing yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar after the black-and-white marine mammals damaged the vessel so badly it later sank, reporters Reuters’ David Latona.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. local time Sunday, some 14 miles north of Cape Spartel in northern Morocco. Passengers aboard the 50-foot Alboran Cognac felt blows to the yacht’s hull and saw that the rudder had been damaged. As water began leaking onto the ship, they contacted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Tarifa, Spain, which directed them to prepare for an emergency rescue.
About an hour later, a nearby oil tanker picked up the two crew members, who were customers of Spain-based Alboran Charter, which owns the yacht, reports the Washington Post’s Dan Rosenzweig-Ziff.
The boat took on more water and sank soon after. It’s not clear how many orcas targeted the vessel.
The sinking of the Alboran Cognac is the latest in a string of incidents involving orcas and ships in the Strait of Gibraltar. The highly intelligent, social marine mammals made headlines last spring, when they sank a Swiss yacht called Champagne off the coast of Spain. In November, they brought down another ship, a Polish sailing yacht called the Grazie Mamma.
But the animals’ unusual behavior goes back even further: Since 2020, mariners have reported 700 interactions between orcas and ships in the Strait of Gibraltar, per Reuters. The Alboran Cognac is the fifth vessel orcas have sunk in the last three years, reports Live Science’s Harry Baker.
Most of the incidents have been recorded in the Strait of Gibraltar, a waterway linking the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The strait, which is bordered by Morocco to the south and by Spain to the north, is home to a distinct—and critically endangered—subpopulation of fewer than 50 orcas.
However, last June, orcas also rammed into a ship in the North Sea between Scotland and Norway, roughly 2,000 miles away from the Strait of Gibraltar. Scientists weren’t quite sure what to make of that incident, which raised the possibility that the destructive behavior was spreading to different groups of orcas.
In the meantime, authorities are urging mariners in the Strait of Gibraltar to exercise caution this summer. Spain’s Maritime Safety and Rescue Society recommends avoiding a large area between the Gulf of Cádiz and the Strait of Gibraltar; the agency also suggests that mariners sail as close to the coast as possible, especially from May to August, when orcas are more likely to be in the region.
If sailors do encounter orcas, the agency recommends they keep the vessel moving and head toward shallower waters. People onboard the ship should remain in the middle of the vessel and not approach the sides, where they may be at risk of falling overboard.
The agency also asked mariners to notify authorities of any orca encounters and, if possible, to take photographs of the creatures for identification.
Scientists remain puzzled by the orcas’ destructive behavior. A leading hypothesis is that a female nicknamed “White Gladis” started ramming into ships after having some sort of traumatic run-in with a vessel; she may also have been pregnant when she first started targeting ships. Since orcas are social creatures, other members of White Gladis’ group may have simply followed her lead and mimicked her actions.
“The idea of revenge is a great story, but there’s no evidence for it,” said Lori Marino, a neuroscientist and the founder and president of the Whale Sanctuary Project, to BBC Newsbeat’s Shaun Dacosta last year.
Another possibility is that the orcas are curious about ships, or maybe, they’re just having fun.
“They’re probably socializing, yucking it up with each other about their adventures without realizing the terror they’re creating in their moments of joy,” said Andrew Trites, a marine mammal researcher at the University of British Columbia in Canada, to Business Insider’s Erin Heger last summer.
Orcas have also been known to temporarily exhibit other unusual behaviors, like placing dead salmon atop their heads. The boat-ramming behavior may be another, similarly short-lived fad that the Strait of Gibraltar orcas will eventually move on from.
And they may already be doing just that: Between January and May 2024, the number of reported interactions with orcas was 65 percent lower than during the same period in 2023 and 40 percent lower than the average for those months across 2021, 2022 and 2023, according to the Atlantic Orca Working Group.
Whatever the orcas’ motivations, scientists have urged onlookers to avoid assigning human emotions to the animals’ behaviors. Though the boat-ramming killer whales have given rise to internet memes and merchandise that suggests they’re plotting an “orca uprising,” researchers argue that the marine mammals are not acting with malicious intent.
