the deciding factor in putting rei in belle's outfit was the image of rei rejecting some... gaston-level royal blowhard... who kidnaps Father and throws him in jail BUT OF COURSE REI WILL GO TO THE JAILHOUSE TO CHECK and there Father is. a tiny bird in a massive jail cell the smol owl could easily walk through the bars of the cell but. then where would be the drama? the teary-eyed betrayal? the motivation to go to the beast's castle?

i imagine rei seeing Father jailed and blandly remarking "Father... why did they do this to you..." (he's supposed to sound horrified but really it's just rei being confused at how stupid the townspeople are) and Father hoots boredly on the concrete floor. yeah. so rei shrugs and decides "hey guess i'll go fuckstudy me a beast or whatever" and moves the plot along conveniently
