unfortunately one day, you forget to bring the lunch you packed to work. fortunately, a new food truck selling burgers and fries has decided to park a few blocks away from your office building.

at first you don't think much of it: you stand in line with a few other employees in front of you, then a gruff middle-aged man takes your order, then you wait for a few minutes for your burger to be grilled. when your name is called, however, your order is served not by the same gruff man but by a handsome young man about your age. he smiles at you when he hands over the wrapped burger and you suddenly feel dizzy from the way he looks at you.

it soon becomes routine for you to visit the food truck during your lunch break at least once a week - maybe you order a burger because you "forgot" your lunch at home, or maybe you just order some fries or a drink to go with the food you already have. the cute cook always smiles and chats with the customers, including you; he asks about your day, if you enjoyed your last order with him, how you spent your last weekend. even if you've ordered nothing more than a soda, he still takes the time to talk to you.

and when you ask him how his weekend was and how his day's been going, he breaks out into shy laughter, his ears turning pink.

you learn that his name is yeonjun, that he lives in the same apartment building as his four closest friends, and that he likes to take photos or do dance covers when he isn't busy with his job at the food truck. he starts peppering his conversations with little flirtations, each one making your heart flutter, but you tell yourself that it's nothing. he likes being cheeky with all his customers.

one night you find yourself going home late after an incredibly long overtime shift. you have a client who wants a rush project, and that means more hours at your desk; the first step outside your office building feels like entering paradise. you don't expect anyone else to be out as late as you, yet when you pass by the food truck you find yeonjun all by himself locking it shut.

he overslept and arrived past the lunch rush hour, he explains, and to make up for it his boss made him clean up by himself.

he's headed to the same train station as you and is even taking the same line, just with a different stop, so the two of you head home together. he tells you that he overslept because he stayed up editing a video of his dance covers, a little passion project of his. you rant to him about your new client and he frowns, worrying that you're working yourself to the bone. "you're too precious to be stressing out over a client who doesn't really care," he says.

you turn away from him so that he doesn't see you blush.

on the train home he shows you a draft of his dance cover video on his phone. you've never seen this side of yeonjun before: he is completely in his element, moving perfectly with the music, expressing just how he feels with his body. you gasp and shower him with compliments, and all he can do is let out nervous giggles and mumble shy "thank you"s. you love this side of him and you wish that you could see it more.

his stop is before yours, and before he gets off he looks at you then opens his mouth. nothing comes out. he closes his mouth then opens it again, then croaks out: "can i... have your number?"

you heartbeat is ringing in your ears as you exchange phones and type in your contact details, but you're smiling so much that you can feel your cheeks ache. "text me when you get home," you say, your voice just as shaky.

"i will," he says just as train pulls in at his stop. "you too, okay?"

"okay. take care, yeonjun."

"good night."

he takes one last look at you before he exits the train, his ears still red. you watch his figure as he goes, then press your hands to your cheeks as if to stop yourself from blushing so much.

let this be only the beginning, your heart tells you.

bf!yeonjun would definitely get a custom vinyl record with songs that remind him of you and your relationship. he'd call it the soundtrack of your love, complete with a picture of you both on the sleeve, possibly a polaroid picture of one of your trips overseas.

he'd play it most days; when you're at work or busy and he misses you, or when he reminisces over the memories you've made together over the course of your relationship.

but he loves to play it the most when you're both home. be it the weekends, or if you're stuck at home because of the rain, or even if you just decide to stay in and build one of his many lego purchases.

yeonjun thinks he's built a new core memory with you this one time he props up the vinyl on his record player, though. the big light is almost never on in your living room, opting to have the lamp you both lugged in the subway as your main source of light; its warmth looming over your flushed faces, like a pair of rose-coloured glasses that never seem to come off when you two are together.

a/n: I watched yeonjun's live this morning when I was half awake and I can't stop thinking about it 🥹 it was the sweetest thing ever

The comforter ruffles from your endless tossing and turning in bed. You turn your head to check the time on the clock situated on your desk and as it read quarter past one in the morning. A sigh leaves your lips as you roll onto your back, staring up at the plain ceiling just trying to ease your mind to get to sleep. But it never works.

The door to your bedroom opens slowly as you look over to see your boyfriend come home from work, sling bag sliding down his shoulder and hanging it up on the hook on the wall.

These times, Yeonjun knows you've been struggling to sleep. Most of the time you're asleep before he comes home, but in the rare cases you're still awake when he gets back, his heart drops a little.

"Hey," Yeonjun coos, moving to sit towards you on the edge of the bed. "Can't sleep, hunny?"

He strokes your hair, caressing his thumb over your temple and lightly massaging it, easing your mind better than you tried to do yourself.

"I tried, I can't, for some reason." You move aside to make some space for Yeonjun.

He lays on his side, an arm propped up to hold him up and his free hand starts playing with your fingers, fiddling and intertwining them.

"Ease your mind, deep and gentle breaths, baby." He says lowly.

You turn your body so you're facing him, laying your hand between the both of you, turning it upwards as his fingers skims back and forth the length of your wrist. His touches were always delicate when it came to you.

He sings the lyrics with a sweet tone, looking at you with so much love and adoration. You were always so grateful for the peace and comfort he brings you, doing the most even when he works hard until the hours of dawn.

You'd be like Heaven to touch,

I wanna hold you so much.

The lyrics resonated with him so well, but also resonated with you too. It holds so much meaning, especially with Yeonjun in front of you, observing the way you look at his lips moving as he lightly sings to you.

You catch the way the corners of his lips are slightly upturned, and it feels like a flower blooming in your chest. Watching him love you with no limit makes you wonder what you did in your past life to deserve so much affection, to deserve Yeonjun in your life.

At long last, love has arrived,

And I thank God I'm alive.

The sound of Yeonjun's voice becomes a little hoarse, almost whispering the song as he watches your eyelids flutter shut, analysing the features on your sleeping face. The face of his love.

His heart swells in his chest knowing that he's been blessed with an angel on earth. The traces he leaves on your skin slows down as he moves the stray hairs away from your face, cupping your cheek after while he continues to analyse your face.

He ends the song with a soothing tone, letting the slight vibrato in his voice accentuate the meaning within the lyrics. Your soft breathing has him smiling to himself, just from the thought of being able to help you get to sleep.

He knows you work hard throughout the day, and even being able to see you sleep well with his help is like an accomplishment from him.

"Love," Yeonjun whispers, leaning down to kiss your temples again, pulling the comforter so you're tucked in comfortably, "I'm always here for you, m'kay?"

He reaches over the bedside light shade and switches it off, leaving his lips pressed against the side of your head, and his arms cradling you in his hold.

As you wrapped your arms around him, the height difference became even more apparent. He towered over you, his broad shoulders providing a comforting shelter as you rested your head against his chest. You closed your eyes, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath your cheek. You let out a contented sigh, savoring the moment of intimacy with him. His arms enveloped you, drawing you closer, not planning on letting you go anytime soon. You leaned back slightly to look up at him, his eyes met yours with a warmth that made your heart flutter. 

“What’s wrong?” He asked as he brushed a strand of hair away from your face, his touch gentle yet electrifying. 

“Nothing,” you whispered, a small smile playing on your lips as you traced veins along his arm with your fingers.

His gaze softened, a flicker of concern in his eyes. 

“You can tell me anything, you know that, right?” he said quietly, his voice a soothing balm to your worries.

he started after you. a new cook to fill in on the line and help with to-go orders. it was a relief honestly and had been a while since there was anyone new on staff

you notice him immediately. he's tall and good looking and doesn't yell like some of the other cooks

you shoot each other flirty looks for a few weeks whenever you're in the kitchen picking up your tables' orders

you get a moment away from the bustle of the restaurant, ducking out into the alley to calm yourself in the cool night air. yeonjun is out on his smoke break

he looks so cool, his bangs falling out of his backwards hat, his lanky form leaning against the wall, the cigarette between his lips burning orange in the blue night

you talk to him, finally, actually talk to him. it's short, but it's enough

he draws you in, as cliche as line cooks and waitresses are, but you can't resist him

he puts his number in your phone before flicking the butt of his cigarette onto the dirty concrete, grinding it out with the heel of his beat up sneaker. he smells like smoke when he leans in to whisper in your ear, telling you to text him when you're off

he goes back inside, leaving you stunned, ears burning and butterflies fluttering in your stomach

the other waitstaff immediately notice the shift in your behavior. they joke that you must have a crush on the new guy, that it's finally happening, your waitress rite of passage- crushing on a line cook

you deny it- nothing happened between you two!- but they don't believe you

yeonjun smells like kitchen grease and lingering cigarette as he pulls you aside, rubbing circles on your back as you try to calm down, letting the frustration rush out and away in his arms
