ygo5dsmonth-week 2022 Day 6 - Fashion Week
Yes, I’ve still got stuff to post for this years 5Ds month. I adore the Dark Signers, and wish we could have seen them all together after their own arc ended. It felt like wasted potential to never have them interact again. I for my part think they would have beef with Team Ragnarok, godly rivalries and stuff. Like did you see how the city fawned over the stupid Aesir Gods? With all their “I’ve never seen the likes of this”. I guess the skyscraper big hellgods just didn’t impress them ...

can’t help this awful energy (you should be scared of me)
Summary: aki izayoi has always loved to duel. she always wanted to hear the crowd cheering for her the same way the crowd cheers for the boys. but who would cheer for a witch?
Rating: T
Ships: Yusei Fudo/Aki Izayoi
Author’s note: this is a no dialogue character study on aki loving to duel and deserving an ending where she got to be a pro duelist because god fuckin dammit, if the boys get to be one, so does she. this is very much more leaning towards platonic yuaki but it’s very much there if you squint! written for @ygo5dsmonth-week
read on ao3 / consider supporting me on ko-fi / join my discord (18+)
Dueling was what brought people together, wasn’t it? Then why did it feel like every time she Dueled, she pushed people away? When Aki Izayoi, age seven, begged her father for her first deck, she couldn’t begin to fathom the chain of events that she would set into motion. She’d been normal, a normal girl who dreamed of maybe getting to go pro like so many greats before her, a champion Duelist with a crowd of friends and admirers… or well, maybe she was never normal. As the mark burned itself into her young flesh, Aki couldn’t help but feel  tainted . Like she was broken. She’d wanted so badly to be normal, and then maybe she could have had friends.
Maybe if she wasn’t a monster, she would be able to sit down at the playground with others and play Duel Monsters with them. The crowds that cheered for the professional Duelists would never cheer for the likes of her, a monster who couldn’t help control the awful power inside her. Aki’s own monsters unfurled whenever she summoned a card, and it destroyed everything around her. It was easier to push those who tried to get close to her away before they got hurt. It’s all she ever  did . The destructive power wouldn’t loosen its grip on her, and when her father struck her, she understood the reason why. Aki wanted so badly to be able to control it, but it kept exploding out of her. As she cried herself to exhaustion, Aki wondered if it would’ve been better if she hadn’t been born. Her parents wouldn’t have to deal with such a troublesome child if she weren’t around.
When her father suggested Duel Academy, Aki tried her best to be good. She avoided Dueling, and stuck to the walls. The teachers didn’t like this, of course. The school was about Dueling, how could she not Duel? And when the accusation that she was just some prissy rich girl with no real talent rang out, Aki couldn’t help herself. It was easy enough to establish her dominance, and regret poured into her instantly as she stood in the midst of her destruction. Proof yet again that Aki Izayoi was not fit to be around others. Proof that she could only cause pain. Proof that she deserved to not have friends, that she  was  a monster. All of which deepened as she found herself wishing that she did not exist. The boy wouldn’t have been hurt if she didn’t. Aki’s remorse overtook her, and she moved towards him, only to be viciously asked if she hadn't done enough. The glares from her classmates were judgemental and harsh.
And so she ran. She ran all the way back home, hoping that maybe she could find some comfort there. She didn’t find comfort. Instead, she found a reminder that the world was better off without her. It was clear she’d been right: her parents were happier without her around her. Impulse took over her, wanting to leave a destruction that she  was  here. That they couldn’t just erase her because it was convenient, or even because they didn’t want her around. Regret filled her the minute the glass hit the ground, and she couldn't help herself: she started laughing. Between the tears and laughter, Aki sprinted away from her former home, finally accepting that she was just destructive.
It played out again and again, and yet… the laughter was at war with the ache in her heart. She wished she could say the destruction brought her some sense of joy, but when the high subsided, she was left feeling hallowed out again. The longing for normalcy, the desire to not be feared, the idea that someone, anyone might embrace her… and that’s when he found her. A savior, who pulled away her mask, who thought her powers were worth celebrating. And he told her about the Arcadia movement, and he was willing to embrace her. He wasn’t scared of her like the others, and he promised that she wouldn’t have to think again. That if thinking hurts too much, he’ll do it for her. Aki allowed him to take her in, and reshape her into a new person. Aki Izayoi disappeared, and the Black Rose Witch took her place.
The Black Rose Witch was comforting. A new distance was afforded between her and the impulse for destruction. And yet… one specific card in her deck hated being used for destruction. Black Rose Dragon wouldn’t rebel, per say, but the Black Rose Witch could feel the dragon’s hatred towards her for the usage. And yet… whenever Aki summoned her in the practice rooms, Black Rose Dragon came forth willingly. The dragon would settle down, and Aki was allowed to press her hand to the dragon’s snout. The dragon, like her, felt the same loneliness. They were kindred spirits, Aki supposed. Divine, however, greatly disliked when Aki used her powers for a simple chit chat with Black Rose Dragon.
Divine sought to help her with her powers, and Aki was in no position to refuse. It was difficult for her to restrain herself, and Divine gifted her with a power limiter. He promised it would help contain the worst of it, and that she would be able to learn how to use her powers on a smaller scale first. After it went into her hair, Aki found she could no longer call Black Rose Dragon outside of battle. When she brought this to Divine’s attention, however, he was unconcerned. Divine insisted that if she worked on her powers, the power would come back to her. He reminded her of how dangerous she was prior to the limiter, and Aki deferred to him. His rules were strict, and harsh, and limiting at times, and sometimes Aki found herself suffocating under them. Other times, however, it was pleasant to not have to think for herself. The mark on her skin was no longer regularly thought of, as Divine had created a place where Aki could simply ignore that. Fear no longer ruled her.
Everything was fine until the Fortune Cup. Aki was invited… or rather, the Black Rose Witch was invited, according to the invitation. The Public Security Maintenance Bureau had issued the invite, and Aki was prepared to decline when Divine insisted she accept. It would be good for the world to see what psychic Duelists are capable of, he’d claimed. When Aki pointed out flatly that the invite wasn’t for her, it was for the Black Rose Witch, Divine noted that the invite came with the promise of sheltering her identity. This was not how Aki pictured her first tournament, but part of her wondered if what Divine promised was even  possible . The idea of a world where she could become a pro Duelist, where people no longer feared psychic Duelists, where discrimiation was gone… it sounded too good to be true. And Divine then said part of his plan to make that world a reality required Aki to win, well, how could she say no?
And that's when things started to fall apart. The cozy little life she’d managed to scrape together was challenged three times. The first time was in her first Duel against a knight who claimed himself a defender of justice, but was quick to judge her harshly before they’d even started Dueling. Aki had no idea where he’d learned that she and the Witch were the same, but it made Aki feel unsettled. Any concerns she had, however, Divine smoothed over. Still, the fear was there now. She had no idea what she was capable of, and she knew she would be unable to control her powers. Divine was unconcerned when she brought this to his attention. Another win against a man who presented to her a warped version of her past was all it took to land her in front of Yusei Fudo, and Divine had warned her about him.
He’d warned her that Fudo would attempt to sweet talk her, and to not listen to one word of Fudo’s lies. But as she was Dueling him, it was impossible to ignore the heart that he put into their Duel. For the first time in years, someone was banging at the doors of her heart, demanding to be let in, and Fudo would not take no for an answer. Aki was frightened by his intensity, and she found herself crumpled on the floor before him in tears. Panic had set in, and for a brief second, she believed that Fudo might actually help her. And then the weight of Divine’s coat was around her, and Aki pulled it in closer, losing herself in the familiar scent of Divine. Divine intervened, scolding Fudo for his attacks and Aki couldn’t help herself: she peaked back to see if Fudo would attempt to go after her. When he did not, Aki was more sure than ever that Divine had been right about him.
As Aki had thought: no one had any interest in rooting for a witch. All her worst fears had been proven right. More to the point, her failure to win set the Arcadia movement back. They’d needed the victory, and Aki had failed to secure it. And so when Misty stormed the Arcadia with all her rage directed towards Aki, Aki had everything to prove. Divine had sworn that Aki hadn’t lost any favor with him, but Aki could see the disappointment in his eyes that he tried to hide from her. The least she could do now was protect the Arcadia, the only home she’d ever known. And then it all came crashing down, down, down as she watched Divine die as the Arcardia crumbled around her… and then she blacked out.
When she came to, Fudo had brought her parents with him… and all she could think was,  is this some kind of sick joke  ? What was Fudo playing at? Her  parents ? How did Fudo even know them? And anger built up as her father stood there, as if he deserved to just enter back into her life at the worst possible moment. Anger had set in, and her powers were out of control. She couldn’t hold it back, and she didn’t want to for once. For once, she was fine with the idea of letting the world burn around, being destroyed just as the Arcadia had. The one home that had never judged her, never mocked her, never once made her feel like she was a monster was gone. Aki Izayoi was willing to become the monster that the world thought of her… at least, until Yusei said her name. Her name from his lips reminded her of her humanity, and suddenly, she wanted it all to stop. It was a reminder that she was, in fact, a person, and she did, in fact, care. But she didn’t know how to, and it terrified her. Being human with no experience in it shook her to her very core. And what scared her even more was that Yusei was so serious about wanting to help her, about caring about her.
She wanted to fight for her friends, the same way Yusei had fought for her. That was what Dueling had done for her: it gave her the very first friend she’d ever known. When she admitted her misgivings to Yusei, Yusei didn’t dismiss her as she thought he would. He admitted he was scared too. She watched him fight despite his fear, and it inspired her. He inspired her, specifically. She’d been certain that she could never be seen as any kind of hero, as anyone worth rooting for, and yet because of Yusei, that’s exactly what she was. It was almost freeing, even if she was uncertain in her ability to control her powers. After the dust settled, Yusei had been brave enough to agree to Dueling her over and over again until she could control her powers. Every single Duel, Yusei swore she’d get it one day. That it would get easier with each passing day, that she just needed to believe in herself the same way he believed in her.
As she summoned forth Black Rose Dragon again, she glanced up at the Signer Dragon she once considered an enemy. Aki had long considered the mark on her skin proof of her being evil, but if Yusei, Luka, Crow, and Jack all had one… how evil could it be? And the more she got to know Lua, the more she was glad that Luka didn’t have to grow up with the same pain that she’d known. She’d long thought that having powers had meant that she had to suffer, but Lua was proof that was never the case. As much as she wanted to resent her father for it because of that, she’d found that she had no room for hatred in her heart anymore. All that bitterness, anger, and rejection was gone. She could be happy, and she saw a path towards it.
And the more Aki got to know her new friends, the more she wanted to be able to join them. When Yusei, Crow, and Jack went out to Duel on the newly built Duel Lanes, she wanted to join them. She wanted to be able to Duel them in the way they preferred to Duel, and understand why they enjoyed it. Not only that, she’d seen how the crowds cheered for a good Riding Duel. A passion Aki had long thought dead had been reignited: she wanted to be a professional Duelist. She wanted to make friendships the way Yusei did, she wanted to feel power pulsing through her the way Jack did, and she wanted to be as free as Crow was. And when Sherry showed up, it cemented it: Aki wanted to get her license more than anything. She wanted to understand, and Yusei was more than willing to help her learn.
By the time she got her license, Aki couldn’t get enough of Riding Duels. Luka remarked that she seemed so much happier than she did before, and Aki found that she could honestly say she was. And when Bruno entered the fold, Aki found that it was easy to reach out to him and befriend him the same way Yusei might. Bruno, like Yusei, had been willing to help her study for the subjects she didn't quite understand when Yusei was busy. Yusei was often busy, Aki had noted. Of course, she knew why. The WRGP was on the horizon, and he was very much a man in demand. He had a lot of friends, and Aki understood that. And yet, every now and then, the schedules lined up and Yusei, Crow, and Jack were all free at the same time. At first, she'd been nervous about asking to be part of their practice. Yet one day, Jack threw her helmet at her and forcefully demanded she'd come along. Later, he'd told her it's because Yusei wanted her to come along but didn't want to impose if she had other plans. Aki thought this was oddly sweet of Jack.
This time, Yusei was the one to ask her if she wanted to come along. Of course she did. And as she raced down the highway with Jack, Crow, and Yusei, she briefly remembered how just a year ago, she’d been the fierce Black Rose Witch, with no hope of having anything like this. As she revved her engine, she left the Black Rose Witch in the dust. Now and forever, she would be Aki Izayoi. Acceleration.

ygo5dsmonth-week 2022 Day 2 - Cozy Treat
Todays prompt was food, so I had Dr Fudo sending Rex to buy some groceries (mostly baby stuff for Yusei). It’s my personal headcanon that while Dr Fudo may have been a brilliant scientist ™ , he’s also a guy from Tops with no idea how money works. So he was going to send Rex off with an inane amount of cash money, and told him to keep the change on top of that

ygo5dsmonth-week 2022 Day 4 - Red and Purple
“My brother’s body hosted two birthmarks - one Signer one Dark Signer. And so the Dark Signer birthmark took action, in attempts to totally seize my brother.“
So what if Rudger got rid off the the arm with the Dark Signer birthmark instead? Which might have been kinda hard, since the thing was starting to mind control him. But the Crimson Dragon’s power really should have helped then instead of waiting idly, the thing must have picked him as it’s first Signer for a reason. Makes me kinda wonder if Ancient Fairy Dragon was supposed to be Rudger’s dragon, since it was the one card that was left with him. And the one dragon that was dragged off by the spider...
Anyway his decision was probably hard to explain to the people around him, since there were actually people around this time, unlike the canon 5D’s timeline.

ygo5dsmonth-week 2022 Day 3 - Different Dimensions
I loved the shows different takes on entertainment duelists, Yuya and Jack clashing in the Synchro arc were some of my favorite Arc V moments. Aoi/ Blue Angel really brought some fresh air into the early Vrains episodes, she was so cheerful and eager to give a fun performance (at least when she was getting into her cyberspace persona). Too bad the show immediately decided to punish her for it. But heck, Vrains seemed intent on kicking Aoi down for every single thing

ygo5dsmonth-week 2022 Day 1 - Happy Birthday!/ Limelight/Best of the Best
Another year another 5D’s month (although this years started with devastating news for the whole Yu-Gi-Oh fandom). For the first prompt I picked Yusei and Jack accidentally calling down the Crimson Dragon for the first time. I also included Rex, because I loved his reaction after seeing that 17 years of preparation were finally paying off (and because the prompts included favorite characters and I love him).
Anyway a happy birthday to Yusei and a happy 5Ds month to you all
@ygo5dsmonth-week
(let’s see how often I can upload, I have some things planned but I was kinda busy with work recently)

the house don’t fall (when the bones are good)
Summary: lua has a holiday plan to get yusei and aki to admit they're dating. and he's determined to see it through to the end.
Rating: G
Ships: Yusei Fudo/Aki Izayoi, Jack Atlas/Carly Nagisa
Author’s note: the ships are very blink and miss for the most part but they do both get on screen kisses. almost everyone shows up, and the majority of this is lua’s pov. i had to rush to change the idea i had for this in the wake of kazuki takahashi’s death, as the original idea felt ill timed. i may post what i originally wrote later, but for now, here’s a rushed piece lol. written for @ygo5dsmonth-week
read on ao3 / consider supporting me on ko-fi / join my discord (18+)
Lua was certain of one thing: Yusei and Aki were clearly dating. Luka might not be convinced, but Lua was. He had a plan to get Yusei and Aki to admit it. “That doesn’t sound like a good idea, Lua,” Luka had said in response. “What if it makes them upset?”
“Why would it make them upset,” Lua countered, his hands on his hips. Luka could be so cowardly, and Lua was having none of it today. It was a holiday, after all. They couldn’t object to the suggestion of going out as a group. “They’re our friends, Luka. Plus, I bet Yusei’s never had a good New Year’s party before! So it’s a foolproof plan!”
“I suppose you’re right,” Luka said, sounding almost annoyed that she couldn’t challenge his bulletproof logic. She’d understand the vision soon enough. “I’ll ask Yusei, Aki, and Bruno. You can ask everyone else.”
“Hey, why do I have to ask Sherry,” Lua pouted. He’d been hoping he could pass it off to Luka to ask her, considering Sherry very much scared him. After witnessing her use a card to tear through several boxes of ramen, he was desperate to not get on Sherry’s bad side. “You can ask Sherry! You’re both girls!”
“Oh, I see,” Luka said as she stood up, mirroring him. She looked mad now, and Lua was now more scared of Luka than whatever Sherry could do to him. “You’re chicken.” She huffed, sticking her nose in the air. “Well, that’s fine. If you aren’t brave enough to ask Sherry to join us on New Year’s Day, then I guess I’ll do it.”
“What!” Lua pouted. “I”m not chicken! I’ll ask Sherry to come to our New Year’s party!”
As Lua stormed off, Luka couldn’t help it: she laughed.
Sherry had been surprised when Lua boldly approached her, and had an almost amused expression on her face at the result. “A party,” she repeated flatly. “You want me to come to… your New Year’s party?”
“And Bruno too,” Lua said, glancing over at Bruno. He’d been surprised to find the two were having coffee together, but it did take care of the other invitation. “Please? It’d be nice to have you both there. You’ve both become part of the team, you know!”
“It could be fun,” Bruno said, a strange look in his eye. Something about the way Brunos’ eyes looked unsettled Lua, but he’d never admit it to the man. Besides, it always seemed to disappear whenever Lua looked just a bit too hard. There was now a shine in his eyes as he looked at Sherry. “And it would be good for you to get your mind off your quest for revenge for a night.”
For just a second, Sherry was glaring at Bruno before she sighed. “I suppose it could be nice,” she said, shaking her head. “Fine. I’ll come to your party.”
“Why would we have a party to celebrate the New Year?”
Both Crow and Yusei were baffled by the concept. Getting Jack on board had been too easy, and Luka had to point out that it was their house to reign in his enthusiasm. “It’s just another year,” Yusei had remarked, more focused on the motorcycle in front of him than the party invite that the twins were trying to give to him. “A party seems inappropriate right now.”
“But Yusei!” Lua whined, stomping his foot. “It’s important that we celebrate the time we got to spend together! Don’t you care about the fact we made it another year as friends!”
To that, Yusei frowned and Crow groaned. “Yusei, don’t tell me you’re going to let Lua boss you around!” Lua whined again, and Crow made the mistake of looking over at Lua. “Oh man,” Crow said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Ugh, fine. If it means that much to you, then we’ll be at your stupid party.”
Lua had spent most of the party trying to get Yusei and Aki under mistletoe. Luka kept trying to put it away, and somehow, it’d mysteriously wound up awkwardly taped somewhere… with a ladder out next to it. So far, Jack had punched Bruno under it, Aki and Crow had an awkward run in where they refused to kiss on grounds it’d be “like kissing your sibling, yuck,” and Ushio had managed to snag a kiss on the cheek with Mikage. Despite nothing going his way, he was still trying.
“Have you considered giving up?” Luka had sat down next to Lua, having given up on trying to take down the mistletoe and letting it roll. Currently, a blushing Carly had managed to get Jack under the mistletoe and was trying to subtly get Jack to notice. “It hasn’t worked out all night.”
“It’ll work out,” Lua said, huffing his chest out. Jack had finally taken note of the mistletoe, and responded by kissing Carly soundly. Lua made a face. “That’s gross.”
“That’s what kissing is,” Luka pointed out, looking at him with confusion. “I thought you were after getting Yusei and Aki to do that.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I want to see it!” Lua looked away from Jack and Carly, rolling his eyes. “They should get a room.” Lua yawned, stretching.
“You aren’t going to make it to midnight.”
“I so am.”
Lua passed out exactly ten minutes before midnight. Luka had willingly put herself to bed thirty minutes prior. Yusei carried Lua to bed, tucking him in. Aki had followed, and her brow furrowed before she moved to fluff Luka’s pillow gently. She tucked Luka, turning to smile at Yusei as she pressed a finger to her lips. He grinned as he held a hand out to her silently, and she took it. Quietly, they exited the room before Aki whispered, “Poor guy. He tried very hard to make it to midnight.”
“Yeah,” Yusei said, not letting go of her hand. “You said there was an important midnight tradition you wanted to show me?”
Aki nodded. “We’ll see it best from the balcony,” she said, leading him towards it. “At midnight, fireworks are shot off. I would’ve thought you guys would’ve seen them from Satellite but Crow swears that you guys never saw any such thing. The displays go high up in the sky, and are so colorful.”
And as midnight struck, the fireworks flew high in the sky, but neither Aki nor Yusei were looking at them. They were too busy sharing a midnight kiss.

this is the first 5ds fic i have written in literal years so i might be a little rusty. so... apologies for that! but yusei is my love and he deserves a gift. this also serves as the first submission for ygo 5ds week, since that prompt is related to favourite characters and...
