A re-investigation has been ordered into the case which was originally initiated in June 2017. The Sisa Journal has obtained all of the materials related to the complaints which were submitted by Choi Jong-geun to the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office in 2017. 

Choi, who joined the Unification Church in 1990, served on the Finance Team, Audit Team, and Auditor General of the Unification Foundation.

In June 2017, Choi urged the prosecution of seven former and current members of the Unification / Tong-il Foundation for alleged violations of the Serious Economic Crimes Act. Those listed included the former chairman of the former Unification Foundation Moon Kook-jin, who is the former governor of the former Unification Church, and the former vice-president and the former secretary general.

Construction costs on four projects were apparently inflated by a total of up to 220 billion won. The projects were:

1. Cheongpyeong Palace Museum in Gapyeong

2. Yeosu Ocean Resort Condo and Water Park in Jeollanam-do,

3. Pine Ridge Golf Resort and Villa Condominium

4. Yongpyeong Resort Condominium Project.

It is noteworthy the re-examination by the prosecution may reveal that the suspicion of the creation of a slush fund may be proven to be factual.

This year further documentation concerning actual construction costs was presented to the Sisa Journal and to the courts.

Mr Choi claims to have much evidence of false accounting, including 109 billion won added to the cost of the construction of the Cheongpyeong Palace. At Ocean Resort in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, 66.1 billion won more than the initial construction cost was raised, and it is suspected that 46 billion won was leaked in the process. There were similar problems at Pine Ridge and Yongpyeong [where the Winter Olympics were held].

In February of this year, the prosecutor's office ordered the investigation, saying, "The necessity of a supplementary investigation is recognized."

The Unification Foundation side says there were “no problems”. Their lawyer said, "If the prosecution officially launches the re-examination process, we will respond calmly."

There are seven defendants, including Kook-jin Moon.

Everything is way more delicious when eaten surrounded by nature 🥰 Last visit to Pyeongchang’s Yongpyeong Resort, we had some delicious bibimbap and galbitang! Even though they are not specific to the Gangwon region, those two dishes are representative Korean dishes, so we totally enjoyed it! Brunches are nice as well, but sometimes having traditional Korean food is something you need the most! 😋

Bibimbap (비빔밥) is mixed rice dish with various vegetables and egg and Galbitang (갈비탕) is a short rib soup made with stewed beef. 🥘
