Rays Edge Twins 7-6 In Port Charlotte.
Twins 6 Rays 7 W-Fairbanks (2-1) L-Duffey (0-2) SV-Head (2)
The Minnesota Twins continued their longest road trip of the spring with a trip up to Port Charlotte to play the Rays this afternoon. The Rays bats got to work in the first inning as Manuel Margot lined a one-out double to right-center. Austin Meadows singled him home to put Tampa Bay on the board first. The Twins answered in the second as Andrelton Simmons belted a Chris Archer slider out to left for a solo homer. This tied the game up at one after two innings of play. The Rays would pull ahead in the third when Yoshi Tsutsugo led-off with a single to right. Manuel Margot lined a base hit to center and the Rays were in business. Later in the inning, Yandy Diaz hit an RBI single to left, which scored a run. Brent Rooker made a terrible throw to the infield and another run scored. The next batter, Joey Wendle blasted a Michael Pineda fastball out to right for a two-run homer. The four-run third put Tampa Bay up 5-1. The Twins would inch closer in the fourth as Byron Buxton lined a two-out triple to left center. Ryan Jeffers hammered a Joey Krehbiel fastball out to left for a two-run homer and the Twins were within a pair of runs. The Twins got back to work in the sixth as Nelson Cruz dumped a single into left field. Pinch-runner Caleb Hamilton reached second pass on a passed ball by Mike Zunino and Ryan Jeffers singled him in. This pulled the Twins within a run and they were not done yet. With two outs, Willians Astudillo lined a run-scoring double to left to tie the game at five apiece. The Rays answered in the bottom of the sixth when Mike Zunino led-off with a double. The next batter, Willy Adames crushed a Tyler Duffey curveball and sent it out to left. The two-run blast put the Rays back on top. The Twins would not go quietly though. Trevor Larnach smacked a Ryan Thompson fastball out to left for a solo homer and Minnesota was within a run again. Ryan Thompson got out of the eighth and Louis Head struck out two in a perfect ninth as the Rays picked up the win this afternoon.
-Final Thoughts- Michael Pineda got knocked around today, but your second-to-last spring training start is moreso about getting your pitches in. He went five innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Duffey had a bad outing. He gave up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning. Chandler Shepherd got out of the sixth and Brandon Waddell struck out two in a perfect seventh. Glenn Sparkman had a scoreless eighth inning of work. Ryan Jeffers and Andrelton Simmons led the way with two hits each. The Twins hit 3-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. The Twins made a few more roster moves as they sent Alex Kiriloff, Devin Smeltzer, and Shaun Anderson to minor league camp. Tomorrow, Randy Dobnak will face Martin Perez as the Twins play the Red Sox at JetBlue Park in a night game.

The @raysbaseball might have the most underrated 3-4 punch in the league. Ji-Man Choi has been money with the Rays in the last season and a half. What I didn't realize until taking a peek at the Jays vs. Rays game the other day is that they signed Yoshitomo "Yoshi" Tsutsugo to a 2-year $12-million dollar contract (with a $2.4-million posting fee.)
Tsutsugo played in the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB) for 10 seasons and was a solid power hitter in Japan. Over the last six seasons, Tsutsugo has had 185 homers with a career-high 44 longballs in 2016. Will he be able to replace Tommy Pham in the Rays lineup? Time will decide that. But if Choi and Tsutsugo start bopping as it is hope that they will, the baseball crazed fans in Japan and Korea will be glued to Rays baseball during the 2020 sprint.

FBB 2021 Team Awards & Review
This team was supposed to finish in last place according to my Rotowire draft software. In the end, I finished in 3rd place. (I dropped from 2nd on the last day of the season.) So, I stand with this theory for my success; this was a “made” team. And boy, was it fun.
I decided early on to go with high-risk, young starters. Ergo, why I have Cease, McClanahan, and Manoah on my roster. McKenzie came later, as did Rasmussen. These guys were hot hands with great promise and great risk. I listened to the analysts on these guys. Maybe too much, but it worked out.
My team fluctuated between 2nd and 6th place most of the season, but once my young starters settled in, I stayed around 3rd place.
Team MVP: Cedric Mullins $1 - when Oscar Mercado didn’t make the team with Cleveland, I had an opening in my outfield. I knew there was a good chance he’d get decent playing time, but never did I believe that he would explode for a 30/30 season. What a bargain.
Next Best: Matt Olson $15
Team Cy Young: Dylan Cease $1 - heard Vlad Guerero Jr say he was the toughest pitcher he had faced in the minors, so I grabbed him when one of my starters went down. Cease was inconsistent at times, but delivered the Ks.
My Value Pick: Cedric Mullins $1 - I mean, $1 for a 30/30 season
Trade Evaluation: Early on in the season, I traded Jake Odorizzi and Greg Holland for Amed Rosario. (I was trying to get Wander Franco.) I felt my team was in bad shape, so I looked long term. It took some time for Rosario to get going but he finished strong.
Regrets: Trading Carlos Correa when I thought I was really out of it. He was solid all season and Vidal Brujan never got the call up.
My Re-Made Team
I usually subscribe to the idea that your team is made in the draft, but this team proves that this is not entirely true. Other than my catchers, I only retained 5 of my position players from the draft.
As for my pitching staff, I only retained 2 of my original pitchers.
