"YA books only have simple politics and never grapple with complex issues with any nuance" have you considered you just haven't read good YA and you should probably stop making demonstrably inaccurate generalisations about an entire fucking age category based on three books you saw recc'd on tiktok

#stop putting these posts on my dash challenge #they piss me off so much #you can talk about a lack of nuance in popular bestsellers without trashing an enormous age category #that DOES contain some incredibly complex and nuanced books #hell there are a BUNCH of books i would happily criticise for their unexamined political assumptions #and guess what. literally half of them are adult #because this is not a YA problem this is just a Some Authors Assume Police Will Fix Things problem #néide has opinions about books #will i ever stop feeling the need to passive aggressively defend YA fiction. maybe not #(i used to work in a secondary school library you guys i read so much YA i talked to so many teenagers)#(if you think any adult reading YA needs to 'grow up' have you considered that for some people it's their literal job)
