Despite being extremely different in appearance and personality, I actually think Luffy and Law are very alike in a couple of ways. The main thing, is that their moral compasses actually very similar. They both operate on this sort of, "if I like you, you're good and I'll do anything for you, I'll move heaven and earth itself. If I don't like you, you're bad and I'm going to fuck you up. Anyone else, I don't care," mentality. The difference being that it's extremely easy to endear yourself to Luffy, but it takes a lot to earn Law's favor. I feel like this is pretty apparent in the fact that neither of them really care about the fates for the children on Punk Hazard, despite that trying to prevent the deaths of a bunch of actual children is a pretty standard no-brainer motivation for most fictional characters.
