Just Friends (Part 1)
Tumblr media
AN: Best friends, you and Tae were once inseparable. Tae’s fame made it difficult for you guys to always see eachother, but now you’re interning at BigHit and Tae can’t see you as his little punk anymore.
- 3,000 words.
Tumblr media
“Y/N where’s my shirt?!” Tae screamed like a kid, pouting his full lips at you.
You were thus interrupted from working out his schedule and being comfortable sat on the couch with a mug of tea.
“Just because I work for you now asshole doesn’t mean you can boss me around like that!’ You yell back at his face, annoyed your best friend enjoys making fun of your new status.
Tae, being Tae, couldn’t control his annoyed expression. He burst out laughing.
He plummeted himself down on the couch next to you.
“Aish, it’s so easy to ruffle your feathers now Y/N. What happened?” He grinned at you.
“You only see my once every year, I grew up. I’m 20 now, Tae.” You said, offended Tae thought you had drastically changed. You spoke with him once a week before starting to work for BigHit, but those were one hour conversations at most where Tae couldn’t really pick up on you growing up.
You were 15 when Tae and you last saw each other everyday before he moved to Seoul to start life as a trainee. It surprised you how you had managed to stay in contact, but the contact was on the phone or webcam, with yearly visits for a week or two.
“Awwwwwh, my Y/N grew up. Do you remember when you use to pad your bra?” Tae said, cracking up again. Okay, it was true. You had a phase where you wanted to copy the ‘sexy’ girl of the class and also develop boobs. The problem was you were 12 and flat as a pancake.
“Hey!” You slapped his arm playfully, unable to stop a smile coming out of you.
“Everyone was doing it, don’t act like you didn’t notice. They looked good too..” You tried to defend yourself, but you knew you were in the wrong.
“Good?! Do you remember when that pig from the grade above decided to feel you up after?!” Taehyung said incredulously. As if you could forget that situation too.
“I dated him after you left for a bit too, he said sorry for what he did when we were kids you know.” You blurted, partly guilty afterwards because you didn’t tell Tae about him.
“You dated that moron? Aish, Y/N. I thought you had better taste than that.” He said, a look of disgust on his face. There was a hint of something under there though, was it contempt? No, Taehyung was probably offended his best friend stooped that low.
You decided to see if you could ruffle his feathers for once.
“Jungkook’s kind of cute you know. I never really thought of him like that, you know. He’s filled out recently..” You said, which was true. Recently Jungkook had caught you eye. When Tae used to talk to you about his members after joining Bangtan, you characterised Kookie as a cute little bean and from his performances, looked like that. Now though, he was completely different.
“I’ll tell him his noona said that”. Taehyung said, his voice octaves lower and suddenly serious.
“Kidding!” You said, snuggling up to him.
“Is 20 really enough to be a noona though? I mean...” You stopped midway, looking up to see Tae give you the look which was are-you-serious.
“If I can’t date, you can’t either.” Tae affirmed, his comforting your shoulder by rubbing his arm against it.
“Why should there be a ban on me dating? You’re the idol, I’m not.” You said, bluntly.
Tae looked at you offended again.
“Best friends before formalities! You’re supposed to support me, and now that you’re back with me, a ban on dating is the best thing for both of us! Ah, see how good of a best friend I am.” Tae looked towards the wall in front of you guys, a look of idealism on his face. He looked like he had just sorted out the problem to golden warming, chuffed at himself.
“Why? What are you doing for me?” You asked bluntly again, crossing your arms.
“Protecting your virtue.” He shot back, as if it was the most obvious thing.
You huffed and slapped his arm hard this time. “Go to hell, Kim Taehyung!” You yelled, to which Taehyung started cackling and jumped up on the touch.
“Aish, you hit like a girl, what happened to you?!” He started to love the hole he was digging, which infuriated you even more.
Tae loved to make it own like you were some tomboy. You were, when you were 12 and wanted nothing more than to go to a skate park and bruise your legs to show your mother who would then complain about you never getting a boyfriend. You also use to kickbox, but gave up after trying to balance college.
Obviously, you grew up and became “feminine” or whatever. But you still liked to lounge around in a hoodie and shorts, like you were now.
“You want to see how much of a girl I hit like, watch it Tae!” You said, jumping up on the couch and wrapping your legs around his torso, to which he had no option but to carry you around on your back.
“Aish woman, have you put on weight too?” He teased further, to which made you bit the top of his ear.
Eventually, after a lot of spinning around on his back Tae managed to land you guys safely on the couch, with him on top. Both of you had forgotten about your play argument and were laughing at some other memory.
“Ah, I’m so glad you’re back.” Tae said, the smile from his face bright and welcoming.
You let out one last laugh before biting your lip. Damn, when did Tae’s smile get so hypnotising? Sure, he was always good looking but he was your best friend Taehyung, who you use to skate with and play pokemon with.
“Me too, Tae.” You said, shyly all of a sudden. Maybe it was because of your position, both of you hadn’t been like this since you were 14. It could also be that for the first time, you thought of Tae in another way.
Tae continued to smile at you, bringing you up by the hand so that you two were facing eachother face to face on your knees.
“I’m serious about the dating ban though.” Tae’s face became serious.
You looked at him like he was out of his mind, “Yah, Tae, I get why you can’t date so openly but I’m not an idol. I can!” You said definitely.
“Y/N....” He moaned out of frustration.
“Taehyung, be serious!” You fought back, surprised he was still so adamant.
“What’s going on here?” Suga came in, probably to get something to drink.
“Taehyung here doesn’t want me to date because he’s worried about my virute.” You answered, rolling your eyes.
“You didn’t tell him about us last night?” Yoongi said, trying to hide the smirk on his face as he teased Tae.
“What last night?” Tae shot daggers at Yoongi, voice octaves lower as he looked like stone for once.
You tried to suppress your giggle, Yoongi was great at winding up Tae with a few words.
“Yeah, those sounds were coming from Y/N.” Yoongi said simply, reaching into the fridge to get a red bull and opening it.
“Ah, nice try hyung. My Y/N has better taste.” Taehyung said rudely. God, something’s never change you thought. His mouth could say anything when he got annoyed.
“Okay, Yoongi hyung I think he’s suffered enough.” You winked at Yoongi for having your back as he left to go back upstairs.
“Winking at Yoongi-hyung too? Aish, fearless woman. Dangerous. I should lock my hyungs away.” He said, sinking into the couch trying to ignore you.
“Try protecting their virtue Tae, not mine.” You said, kissing him on the forehead innocently before moving off the couch to reach for your phone across the coffee table.
“Be serious with me, you’ve done it?” Tae asked, an innocent but serious curiosity laced on his face.
You became slightly annoyed.
“Am I that repulsing Tae?” You spat, putt off with his questioning. Just because you weren’t an idol didn’t mean you failed in the looks department. Tae refused to look at you properly, and realise the girl who always wore baggy clothes and NY hats grew up. More so, you didn’t need his protection, you weren’t a pure little flower.
Heck, you were even chased by an agent last year to rope you into modelling but you managed to out run them.
“That’s not what I meant Y/N...” Tae said, immediately coming up behind you to hug you.
“You’re beautiful. I just don’t want some asshole putting his hands on you.” Tae’s admittance shook you slightly. Hearing such language from his mouth did things to you that you didn’t want to admit.
“That’s my decision Tae. I won’t date in front of you, if it helps.” You said, giving him an option.
Serious Tae wasn’t common, but he sighed in defeat.
“I’m sorry. I’ll try to be the non protective over bearing best guy friend.” He said.
You smiled, “thank you.” The rest of your day was spent catching up with Tae more, there had been so much you guys spoke about despite it being your second week in working with BTS.
You and the boys got into a schedule, and Tae seemed to be the happiest ever when you came in to watch them practice sometimes. He would send winks your way, which you knew shouldn’t effect you because you didn’t have a romantic relationship: but they did. You were giddy inside.
One evening,  you were talking to Jungkook about an anime you both enjoyed when Tae popped up behind you, resting his head in the crook of you neck.
“Maknae, beat it from my best friend.” You didn’t have to look at Tae to know he was smiling to Jungkook to get lost.
It shouldn’t effect you, he’d done it a million times before. Now, everytime he laid his head in the crook of your neck from behind like that, you just wanted him to comfort your collarbone with his lips. whilst you tangled your hands in his hair.
You felt like getting laid might help instead, which was probably why you were thinking these thoughts about your best friend. So wrong, you thought.
“Stay Kookie, save me from this imbecile.” You said, glaring at him from the corner of your eyes.
Kookie raised his eyebrows in awkwardness. Looking at Kookie, you forgot to realise how awkward he’d been around you too recently. He had managed to find out about all the anime’s you liked and started to make conversation with you about them all the time, fishing for more information about what you liked.
Weird.
“I said I’d help Suga hyung with one of his scripts. I’ll see you guys later”. He said, before muttering something like “get it over with already”.
“I’m hungry.” Tae moaned, speaking into your neck which completely threw you off. Ohmygod his lips are on me.
Snap out of it, Y/N.
“Let’s go home to eat, you spent way too much on lunch out of excitement yesterday, you have to be more careful not to be reckless about spending.” You scolded Tae, you knew his spending habits could be reckless.
“You can cook? Since, when?”He asked, looking up at you from your neck.
“Since my mother said I’d never get someone to marry me if I couldn’t. Now, are you ready for some authentic Y/N food?” You said, excited that you were about to finally show Tae your skills.
He snaked his arms around you at this point, to which you nearly stiffened.
What is he trying to do?!
“Ah, what kind of bastard does he have to be to not marry you if you can’t cook, Y/N? I need a word with ajumma.” Tae said, completely oblivious to the effect he had on you.
“Ah, the joy of having Kim Taehyung as my backup.” You teased, trying to supress how freaked out your body was now. You managed to shimmy out of his toned arms, and turned to face him.
“Backup”. Taehyung snorted under his breath, to which you had to reality check yourself you heard. It was almost as if Tae was sure he wouldn’t be a backup. You sighed, maybe it was your mind playing tricks on you. Tae was probably all over the place right now, muttering things he didn’t listen to properly.
At home, you managed to cook up a feast and the rest of Bangtan joined. Jin had helped you in the kitchen to which you were grateful, and Tae lingered on the side.
“Taehyung, since when did you cook?” Jin asked, noticing Tae trying to make himself of use. It was like he was trying to impress you, of all people.
“Why? What does it mean to you if I cook?” He said, taking your side and the knife you were about to use for chopping onions out of your hand.
“You’ll cut yourself.” He said, starting to slice onions.
You looked at his incredulously, so did Jin.
“Woaaawh, look at Taehyung!” Jin exclaimed to Taehyung, who was happily slicing onions and grinning at you.
“Yah, Tae do you want to give your future girlfriend a heart attack? Aish, she’ll be so lucky to have my best friend being a domestic goddess.” You marvelled at his perfectly cut onions.
Seriously, Tae was giving you whiplash now and again. You and your body were giving yourself whiplash too.
Since Tae was busy actually doing something, you decided to have a good conversation with Jin. Jin had always tried to catch up with you when you weren’t working, and you had admired his broad shoulders from afar. He was like you in many ways- responsible and expressive.
To anyone else, it would probably look like Jin was being extra and charming you. You were flustered, it was a nice distraction from what Tae had been making you feel, but that seemed to die down quickly as you realised how quiet Tae was during dinner. You asked him how the food was, to which he muttered a short okay too.
The members realised the tension between you guys too, which is why they left early after helping to clear up the dishes.
Taehyung had rested his head on the couch, and you hesitantly joined him.
“Do you want to say anything?” You asked, knowing Tae always had something to say.
“Yes. I don’t approve of you dating Jin, if that’s what’s going to happen.” He said strictly.
You wanted to laugh. Taehyung and acting like a protective friend really didn’t suit him to you.
“We exchanged tips on baking, and he made a joke about chickens crossing the road. I hardly call that ready to date, babe.” You let the word “babe” slip, like it was the most natural thing ever.
“What did you say?” He asked you, repeating the English word “babe”. It sounded heavenly coming from his mouth.
“Babe.”
Taehyung pronounced again, looking at you.
“Sorry, it was a mist-” Taehyung cut you off, “say it again.”
“We’re not da-”
He cut you off, pressing his lips to you and snaking his hands around your hips once again in a bid to pull you close to him. You were suprised at first, but it was like the final thing your body was waiting for: you eagerly matched his lips. He had coaxed your hips to follow his, and you hadn’t a clue how you ended up sitting on his lap, knees touching the couch as you kissed him further. Tae’s hands never left your hips, he steadied your moves and the control Tae had made you wet. His hips were thrusting gently to meet your warm enclave and you hadn’t realised how you were pushing your hips into thin air, until Tae brought your hips down onto his jeaned lap.
The heat was too much now, you were on a delicious fire, you clothes being a source of delicious friction that was tempting to disregard.
“Stop.” You said, pushing yourself away, ashamed at what you maybe had just done.
“We, this shoulnd’t have happened.” You said, your head becoming clear as you lifted yourself off him. This was your best friend Taehyung, who was probably happy to see you after so long. You couldn’t ruin things, not with Tae.
“I don’t want to ruin our friendship.” You said sternly, hurt by the look of confusion on Tae’s face as it came down from bliss. His lips were swollen.
So were yours.
You had just stepped into another place with Tae, one where boundaries were unknown and the risks were high. You did the worst thing ever, you ran. You ran upstairs and locked your room, you couldn’t face Tae. You had to hand in a resignation, because you just couldn’t ruin your relationship with Tae.
AN: Part 2 will be up soon!
Preview:
“They haven’t been speaking to each other for the past week.” Jimin whispered to Jungkook at the breakfast table.
“They looked like they could kill each other yesterday at practice.”
“It’s so unlike Tae, I saw him looking out for her yesterday when she went rock climbing and then yelling at her for coming back so late. It’s weird.” Jungkook added.
“You guys are like two old women, stop it.” Namjoon butted in, but equally curious about what was going on between the most happy go free member of BTS and his best friend.
“We should name ourselves the secret grandpa gossip club. Stay out of it.” Suga added, with Hoseok sending them a glance of disproval.
“He’s coming downstairs!” Hoseok said, hearing Tae’s footsteps.
