Devon shrugs, a laugh sneaking out right between her teeth. She shakes her head. “Hey, if I let every fucking asshole who asked me ignorant questions bother me, no way I’d have gotten this far,” she replies. No, she prefers to focus on the admirers, the people in the industry who believe in her. “As cheesy as it sounds, I perform for the fans.” Sure, post-transition, a new group of fans follow her but that doesn’t bother her much.

There Devon stood, surrounded by a sea of muffins, scones, and cupcakes, trapped in a hell of her own making. The record execs had told her they would have a decision for her by yesterday. Yet, as the name implied, the day had come and gone with no word. She let out an intense sigh and held out a plate with a blueberry muffin on it. “Well, I’m just waiting to hear about my solo contract,” she explained. 

After a short pause, she launched into a fast paced rant. “I mean--they really liked the demo and said it was basically a sure thing but I’ve gotten my hopes up before and I don’t want to think I ruined the band for nothing.” Ruined was a strong word. El wanted out anyway and her and Roge had pretty strong artistic tastes that drifted in different directions--still.

“You... have a lot of experience with monsters?” She asked. She didn’t herself, at least not the Frankensteiny sort. “Or is this all a metaphor?”

She chuckles lightly at the observation. “What would you call it then? Tell me, do you believe in fate?” They put the car in park and open the door. “You don’t think it’s beautiful?” She asks pointing up to the dam as it opens, water tumbling over the top in a magnificent gushing wave.

It’s impossible to express just how much Phoebe Bridgers’ music reflects the personalities of the Poetic Thursday members -- Her voice, the lower registers especially, are Devon’s vc and the lyrics are just so #sadbitch they could easily be written by Lorena. Not to mention all the songs about close mentorship relationships and sibling love like she has with El

Then there’s her project with Conor who represents exactly the kind of lyrics that Roge writes and yeah, it’s just them to a T
