I was browsing UnixPorn on Reddit and was reminded how opinionated people get about Linux. Sure I have my opinions, but I by no means believe my opinions extend outside personal preference.

I feel like it's a tell-tale sign between Linux as a hobby, and Linux as a tool. Hating SystemD is great and all, I personally prefer OpenRC, but if I actually need to use the system I'm going to want the init system that has the best online support.

There is no singular "right" way to use Linux. I fully understand both wanting to use Linux for its benefits as an operating system as well as using Linux because it's fun to customize. I do both. But I think people, specifically those who like more fringe systems, can tend to forget that some people just want an out of the box Linux experience that will work for as long as they need it to.

This mentality is by no means unique to Linux, I see it in many tech spaces. Yes Rust is objectively better designed than Java, but Java is easier to learn and hire for. I feel like many newcomers to these things can get pressured into making their life harder than it needs to be to meet other people's standards.

I suppose the moral of this post is; remember everyone has different needs, and your opinions do not trump those needs.

I always somehow manage to turn my commentary on the Linux community philosophical. Humanity reveals itself to be consistent in many strange ways.

Hey not to go all "tumblr is a professional networking site" on you, but how did you get to work for Microsoft??? I'm a recent grad and I'm being eviscerated out here trying to apply for industry jobs & your liveblogging about your job sounds so much less evil than Data Entry IT Job #43461

This place is basically LinkedIn to me.

I'm gonna start by saying I am so so very sorry you're a recent grad in the year 2024... Tech job market is complete ass right now and it is not just you. I started fulltime in 2018, and for 2018-2022 it was completely normal to see a yearly outflow of people hopping to new jobs and a yearly inflow of new hires. Then sometime around late-spring/early-summer of 2022 Wallstreet sneezed the word "recession" and every tech company simultaneously shit themselves.

Tons of layoffs happened, meaning you're competing not just with new grads but with thousands of experienced workers who got shafted by their company. My org squeaked by with a small amount of layoffs (3 people among ~100), but it also means we have not hired anyone new since mid-2022. And where I used to see maybe 4-8 people yearly leave in order to hop to a new job, I think I've seen 1 person do that in the whole last year and a half.

All this to say it's rough and I can't just say "send applications and believe in yourself :)".

I have done interviews though. (I'm not involved in resume screening though, just the interviews of candidates who made it past the screening phase.) So I have at least some relevant advice, as well as second-hand knowledge from other people I know who've had to hop jobs or get hired recently.

If you have friends already in industry who you feel comfortable asking, reach out to them. Most companies have a recommendation process where a current employee fills out a little form that says "yeah I'd recommend such-and-such for this job." These do seem to carry weight, since it's coming from a trusted internal person and isn't just one of the hundreds of cold-call applications they've received.

A lot of tech companies--whether for truly well-intentioned reasons or to just check a checkbox--are on the lookout for increasing employee diversity. If you happen to have anything like, for example, "member of my college Latino society", it's worth including on your resume among your technical skills and technical projects.

I would add "you're probably gonna have to send a lot of applications" as a bullet point but I'm sure you're already doing that. But here it is as a bullet point anyway.

(This is kind of a guess, since it's part of the resume screening) but if you can dedicate some time to getting at least passingly familiar with popular tech/stacks for the positions you're looking into, try doing that in your free time so you can list it on your resume. Even better if you make a project you can point to. Like if you're aiming for webdev, get familiar with React and probably NodeJS. On top of being comfortable in one of the all-purpose languages like C(++) or Java or Python.

If you get to the interview phase - a company that is good to work for WILL care that you're someone who's good to work with. A tech-genius who's a coworker-hating egotistical snob is a nuisance at best and a liability at worst for companies with even a half-decent culture. When I do interviews, "Is this someone who's a good culture fit?" is as important as the technical skills. You'll want to show you'll be a perfectly pleasant, helpful, collaborative coworker. If the company DOESN'T care about that... bullet dodged.

For the technical questions, I care more about the thought process than I do the right answer, especially for entry-level. If you show a capacity for asking good, insightful clarifying questions, an ability to break down the problem, explain your thought process, and backtrack&alter your approach upon realizing something won't work, that's all more important than just being able to spit out a memorized leetcode answer. (I kinda hate leetcode for this reason, and therefore I only ask homebrewed questions, because I don't want the technical portion to hinge at all on whether someone managed to memorize the first 47 pages of leetcode problems). For a new hire, the most important impression you can give me is that you have a technical grasp and that you're capable of learning. Because a new hire isn't going to be an expert in anything, but they're someone who's capable of learning the ropes.

That's everything I have off the top of my head. Good luck anon. I'm very sorry you were born during a specific range of years that made you a new grad in 2024 and I hope it gets better.

As a forewarning, this shimeji is a "mischevious" type shimeji, which means he can summon forth Sports King clones to infest your screen, or mess with your minimised windows. But not to worry, because a simple right click on either the King himself, or his icon in the app tray, and you'll be able to reduce the Sports King population to one, or restore your meddled-with windows.

While I cannot say i completely understand your experience (my dads mixed Asian (Indonesian, Java island and another island but my dad doesn't remember which and the family doesn't really talk about th Indonesian heritage) and I inherited curly hair, also the nose and the eyes, I love looking like my grandpa), hair is a lot more then just hair.

Before I got ill I had more like 3c and some strands 4a (now I know how to take care of it so it's getting back to that!!), an old friend literally thought I was a homeless person. And when i got mad my teacher said; 'hair is just hair dont get worked up'

Anyways, I'm basically saying comments about hair just being hair just suck.

Ig Indonesia is so diverse that every possible extremist group existed. You go to the very west- there'd be al qatala. Java.. is the safest tbh but.. not really. I went to this village and got stopped coz they tought i was their neighborhood terrorist. For context, i was travelling so ofc i had a big ass bag. And i legit thought they were joking coz i couldn't believe this country has people like that, so i said YEAH ITS A BOMB :D (i got escorted to head of village and interrogated, stuff got searched, but turned out they realized im cool and we laughed it off)

5. “Quick, kiss me again, they’re coming back—” – Carrie and Reggie

If there was one thing Carrie hated most in the world, it was stakeouts. It meant long hours, stale coffee, and trying to stay awake while the people she was watching did nothing.

"Ugh I'm so bored," Carrie moaned. "I need to get out of this van."

"Go and stretch your legs if you want," Kayla offered. "I think Peters is going on a coffee run if you wanna go with for a break. Bring me back a cruller."

Carrie saluted, groaning as she stretched the ache from his limbs, hopping out into the cool night air. It was such a relief from the stuffy non descript van she had been stuck in for most of the evening. Thank goodness this would clear her from stakeout duty for a bit, if she survived the night anyways.

"Hey Wilson, breaking free?' Peters asked her. "You wanna join me for a java run?"

"God yes," she replied, the two of them heading a few blocks away to the nearest coffee shop. "How's the other van treating you?"

"Blech, I had to get out before Burke's boiled ham sandwich smothered me," he replied. "You're lucky to not have to suffer through it."

"Imagine being stuck in a car with it," Carrie replied, her nose crinkling at the vivid memory. "Plus he insists on listening to the game the whole time, and if there's anything more boring than stakeouts, it's baseball."

"He's watching the Mets game as we speak."

The two of them laughed at that, continuing their walk with the odd piece of office gossip or chit-chat. Carrie liked Peters-Reggie-she really should use his real name. He was a good agent, not afraid to think outside the box, quick on his feet, and she found him easy to talk to, whether it be about a case or the reality show they both enjoyed. Plus he was pretty easy on the eyes, and that was a relief when most of he people she worked with were middle aged and balding.

They took their time sipping their coffee, feeling the blessed caffeine fill their veins. "Any plans for the long weekend?' Carrie asked.

"Going home to see the fam," Reggie replied. "My sister is due next month so we're all getting together to throw her a shower." He showed her his phone, showing a glowing Latina woman and presumably her husband, then another of the same woman with an older man and younger man, Reggie grinning right next to them.

"You guys look really happy," Carrie commented.

Reggie smiled softly at the picture, then pocketed his phone once more. "Yeah, I lucked out when they chose to take me in. What about you?"

"It's just me and my dad, and we don't see each other much," Carrie replied, evasive as ever. She didn't really want to get into the Trevor Wilson of it all, even if he was more washed up than anything now, there were plenty of people who still remembered and loved his music. "Might just take some me time the weekend, go see a show."

Reggie nodded, and given he had revealed that he had been taken in, she figured he might know something about fraught family dynamics. "Another for the road?"

"I'm good, but I promised Kayla a doughnut," Carrie said.

"Well I suppose someone has to live up to the stereotype," Reggie snickered, but got himself a pastry as well. "Anything to cover the smell of ham."

They were a block away from the vans when a voice came through their comms. "Attention all agents, suspect is on the move. Do not engage, keep out of sight."

"Fuck," Carrie swore. There was nowhere to hide and there was no way she was getting accused of borking this mission. "We gotta look inconspicuous."

Reggie turned her around, pressing her up against a tree, lowering his head. "Ready for maneuver 73?"

Carrie nodded, looping her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss just in time as a couple of tough looking men passed. She heard them snickering but otherwise they ignored them.

The kiss was supposed to be pure business-Carrie had taken enough acting classes to pull off a professional smooch. But it was still a kiss that made her want to melt against the tree from how sweet and soft it was. And she could feel how Reggie's hands tightened on her hips for a brief moment before he pulled back.

"Gotta say, you know your way around that maneuver," Reggie stated, smiling at her, then swore. “Quick, kiss me again, they’re coming back—”

Carrie didn't even hesitate, pulling Reggie back down, putting some oomph into the kiss.

"Break it up lovebirds!" a jeering voice chuckled.

Carrie eased up on the kiss but didn't let Reggie go until the guys got into their car. She activated her comm. "Suspects are in a '75 Silverado, dark blue. Should we pursue?"

"Negatory, Burke is in a unmarked, he's trail them. Get back in the van and we'll regroup."

"Acknowledged, Wilson out."

Reggie stepped back, rubbing the back of his neck, a faint blush on his cheeks. "Thanks for making my night better."

"Because I got rid of the ham?" Carrie joked.

"That too, sure," Reggie replied.

Carrie blushed, the two of them stopping by her van. "Well thanks for breaking up the tedium of the stakeout, we should do it again sometime."

"Maybe the weekend before I head home?" Reggie offered. "Get some tapas, go make fun of the latest action flick showing at the Odeon?"

"Throw in a coffee and it's a date," Carrie replied, leaning in for a final peck before hopping into the van, smirking at his dopey looking expression before closing the door.

'Good coffee break?" Kayla asked with a smirk, motioning to Carrie's smudged lip gloss.

"Eat your cruller and shut up," Carrie grumbled. But smiled when her phone pinged with a text from Reggie containing a smiley face. And wondered if just maybe she had been wrong about stakeouts all along.

Random BL Musings for 3/17/25

So we had some big news over the weekend with the confirmation that Ohm and Leng would not be continuing as a pairing and their currently scheduled series with GMMTV were re-assigned to other pairs, specifically to Aou and Boom for Only Friends: Dream On, and Surf and Java for MU-TE-LUV: 9 Temples. I'm not particularly upset over them separating as a pair, I haven't watched Kidnap the series yet. I always kinda of think about it when I'm trolling GagaOoLala for stuff to watch, but I just haven't jumped in yet, so truly I can't speak much on how they are as a pairing. I know that Ohm is a very talented actor, having watched him in a handful of other things, and I'd guess that Leng is on a similar level. I've seen a lot of people not really surprised at the split given the pretty blatant disrespect to Leng and Ohm from people who were very committed to the OhmNanon pairing, and I tend to agree. Why would Leng want to be consistently putting himself in a place where he's not wanted? Because it's not just people talking shit online, but he has to attend these fanmeets and events and deal with people in real life either not caring that he's even in the room because they're there for Ohm only, or treating him like some sort of mistress that broke up a marriage. I'd be out too.

But to circle around to my actual point, or I suppose more accurately continue on along my ADHD thought process- the switch to AouBoom, which I have seen a lot of people excited about, and truly I'm kind of excited as well. They've been putting in the work for a while and I do think their work specifically in Perfect 10 Liners is good. I've not watched enough of their other work to comment there, but the fact that they have a lot of people who are basically screaming "finally" at the news that they will be in a main role instead of supporting I think says a lot to how good of a job they've been doing. (I've watched approximately 1/2 of Vice Versa, Enchante, Hidden Agenda, and We Are and haven't been able to finish any of them...maybe one day.) But I do think in P10L they really stood out amongst the main couples. Even given both pretty limited space in the story and portraying some pretty unlikeable characters, you do still kind of root for them. And that's something that I think will serve them well in the continuation of Only Friends, which is at it's core about very imperfect and often unlikeable characters.

I've also seen as part of this discussion some what I would argue are pretty fucked up reasons for this excitement. And what I'm seeing from some is certainly not universal within the BL community, from my perspective it does seem like the minority, but I also block with pretty wild abandon and curate my online spaces pretty strictly, so I know for sure that my perspective is pretty skewed. To the actual point though- one common thing I saw was "they deserve to be a main couple, their NC scenes in P10L are the only ones worth watching"- and man, do I have an issue with that type of statement.

I know that currently there is this seemingly unending discourse amongst the BL fandom about NC scenes with some people upset about the gratuitousness and frequency of them, while the other side complains that this is a form of entertainment for adults, and sex is a common and often important aspect of romantic relationships and we should be getting realistic portrayals of sex, and on it all goes. And no one is 100% correct or incorrect on either side.

To talk about P10L and AouBoom portraying Klao and Warit, they are very clearly and intentionally presented as a pretty toxic couple, and yes that can be fun to watch, but it is important to hold that context in the back of your mind. Do they seem to be getting better the further into the story we go, especially after the full establishment of Yotha and Gun's relationship? Yeah, but also pretty much every NC scene we saw between these guys was almost more like hate-sex than anything. And there's a very clear intention (in my opinion, all of this is my opinion) for their relationship to be counterpoint to the ones that grown between the main couples, specifically Yotha and Gun, but also Faifa and Wine (they're obviously not really present during the main run of Arm and Arc's romance). It feels like y'all are saying you don't see the NC scenes between the main couples as 'passionate' because they aren't rooted in anger...and like...yikes. Because I do think a sex scene needs to 'have a point', I do think like any other one on one scene between romantic leads, a sex scene builds our understandings of the characters. Their purpose is not just to arouse (bc yes some viewers find them hot and that's totally fine) or to fetishize, another common complaint about them, but to show another aspect of two people's relationship to each other. I'm going to default to explaining this using the couple that I feel the most familiar with in order to make my point, but I'm certain this is something that you could do with any number of couples within BL.

Using Prapai and Sky as an example you can look at the NC scenes we have for them. First is the one-night stand, second is the post-illness sex, third is the post-dinner/pre-party BJ in the condo bathroom, fourth is the conference room, and final is the oceanside bathtub scene.

To break those down individually, you see an active change in how they interact with each other as sexual partners. During the one-night stand Sky is majority in control, he's initiating transitions to next steps, i.e. removing clothes, asking about protection, and even him being on top are all indicators of this. He's also the one to directly initiate round two. Control matters most to Sky in that moment, he doesn't feel safe enough to give up control. Our second scene, he's begun to trust Prapai and while he does start on top...he doesn't finish (waggly eyebrows) up that way, he gives up a measure of control to Prapai. It's another indicator of his trust in Prapai slowly building. Scene three- the bathroom blowjob, specifically with Sky receiving. Part of Sky's story is him being a survivor of intimate partner violence and being used solely for the pleasure of Gun and others, with no concern to his own pleasure. Having him be on the receiving end of the oral sex is very specifically and directly Prapai being focused on pleasuring Sky without concern of "repayment" or his own pleasure (beyond the pleasure and satisfaction of performing this service for a partner he cares about). Scene 4- conference room. This scene is both another step in Sky showing and exercising his desire to be in control and Prapai both understanding and enjoying that, but it's also about playfulness. Yes, it's an incredibly hot and sexy scene, but it's also very playful, which indicates to us as the audience that Sky feels so comfortable with Prapai, incredibly secure in their relationship, and has continued to come out of his shell in the time between episode 13 and the special episode. Our last NC scene is the bathtub scene which fully locks in the canon that Sky and Prapai are switches (if you hadn't picked that up until then) and the fact that those moments where Prapai was letting Sky lead weren't just to help Sky feel more comfortable and secure, but were because he also very much enjoyed it. It shows how compatible they are as sexual partners (which does matter), and that they have developed this level of trust and knowledge about each other to where they don't really have questions. Prapai asks no questions beyond "Huh?"' and then immediately jumps in that tub.

Do you see how well considered NC-scenes help develop our understanding of characters and couples? Okay. Great, so all of this to say, you don't have to enjoy watching an NC scene. Sometimes I do and sometimes I'm kinda meh about it, because at their core they are like any other one on one scene between these characters. But they can and often do have a purpose within the overall story. They're also an important part of normalizing queer love in all aspects, and that's why softer or more romantic NC scenes matter within media, because queer love and queer sex is often pushed into this idea of being inappropriate or deviant. Even a kiss between same sex partners starts a discussion of "should this media be rated higher?", like PG-13, instead of the standard PG rating of pretty much any media that contains a pretty innocent kiss (no tongues or groping of bodies) between straight couples. And all of this is why different levels of NC scenes or references to sex within queer media matters, because you do need media that could be appropriate both in theming and in content for young people. Not just teens, but even pre-teens, because that is the age where many people are figuring out sexuality, and shows that are appropriate for their age group that show various sexualities and gender expressions are helpful for them in that journey. And it's not just about having queer people or queer relationships be the focus, but also having queer people existing within the world of the story.

And back to my yikes point, the idea that Klao and War's sex scenes were the best, or felt the most 'passionate' to some viewers when they were rooted in a pretty angry and toxic place, and especially when we see Klao and War be pretty violent with each other, I find myself concerned because this is something I've seen before. I've seen it in talks about TharnType and VegasPete and many other couples that are pretty inarguably toxic and unhealthy, especially in the beginning. And I'm concerned because I do fear it may be the toxic standards for masculinity. This idea of conquering being manly, of taking your pleasure being manly, that's getting into some pretty slippery territory, and it's not that I think that content doesn't have a place in fiction, but that it doesn't always feel like people see how it's bad. Even looking at my two examples- TharnType presented a lot if not all of this incredibly questionable behavior from both sides as being fine...it certainly was not fine. VegasPete does not present it in that way to the viewer, other characters, that's a conversation we could have, but as the viewer you are aware that what's happening between Vegas and Pete basically up until the post credits scene in the hospital is pretty fucked up. Even if the characters themselves are okay with it, we as the audience can see that this is not a healthy relationship in any way. But it's also fiction. we understand it's fiction and we understand that enjoying watching that toxicity does not mean we endorse the behaviors or think they would ever be appropriate IRL. But it makes me wonder if not everyone in the class understands, because again, a fair bit of the commentary I've seen doesn't seem to express that awareness. And truly sometimes it feels like a lot of y'all out there don't know how to enjoy a softer love story, which I think is very unfortunate.

My other general gripe from the weekend/past week has been again the weird discourse surrounding Perth and Santa. (Kinda funny that a lot of this ramble connects to P10L, not intentional, but it does make sense since that's one of the most popular currently airing series.) Because there's been quite a few people talking about Santa being infantalized by his company and them 'forcing' him to be cutesy. I worry for people. Most of the main proof of this has been people using pictures of him IN CHARACTER as a Gun- a character that's meant to be soft, silly, and cutesy, and in fact often acts cutesy with intention to keep people from asking too many questions. But also, seems to disregard context as reasonings for some of this. Do I think that during appearances Santa seems to be acting a lot more silly? Yeah, I do. You know what I think the biggest reason for that is? His age. Man is 21 years old, but in addition to that- he started out in series with Project 7 in 2021. He was 17 during filming, and was paired with a far more experienced actor (Cooheart). Have you never paid attention to any interview given by child actor about how adultified they are? How they have to behave just as mature, if not more mature, as the adult actors they are working with because otherwise they get shit talked, or run the risk of losing further opportunities because they don't have years of work that shows how professional they are? And continuing from that to My Only 12% and very particularly the fan events and appearances with Cooheart where there is a very distinct expectation for him to behave certain way in complement to Cooheart.

Now, moving on to this pairing with Perth, who is much closer in age, and also their characters having a very different dynamic, means that he doesn't have to stay in that almost tsundere persona. He's also been through the Fantasy Boys survival show, which was pretty emotionally draining on him, and so I think more of what we're seeing now is him really showing himself, less persona more actual Santa, both because he feels more comfortable, but also because he's more clearly figured out who he is. And i could honestly say the same about Perth too. I feel like his partnership with Santa and more of the connections he's made as a sort of senior within GMMTV has helped him be more relaxed. But a lot of this comes around to the basic point that people are faceted. They're not one dimensional, and their mood or behavior one day does not set in stone their behavior forever. Santa is just a guy, beauty and talent aside, and like any other 21 year old, some days he's gonna be feeling a little silly, and some days more serious, and that's life. He's also a performer. Part of what attracted him to both acting as well as music/performing is the ability to put on these different personas that reflect different aspects of himself.

(Slight authors note, just to ensure that something doesn't get taken out of context- I've never had an issue with Santa's paring with Cooheart. The scenes filmed for those series were very appropriate to his age, and I didn't see any inappropriate behavior happening during appearances together. I think the ppl who complained the loudest about it and specifically bashed Cooheart over it were simply homophobic assholes.)

I think that kind of might be all. Wrapping up, I'm excited about the BOC series about flight attendants. I suspect it's more than just a workplace comedy, but we shall see.

I've only watched one series in it's entirety recently that I haven't already talked about, and I don't even know that I could specifically say I recommend it, but Happy of the End was an almost entrancing watch. Like the show is good quality. The acting is very good. It's also chock full of trigger warnings, send me an ask if you want more specific details. It reminded me a little bit of how I felt watching Stay Still, if you watched that.

My name's Java. I've been attempting to shift for 4 years now. A lot of the information I've been fed has been from reddit's shifting community (wouldn't recommend) and so I'm trying to reprogram everything I know about shifting. Unfortunately, I have a particularly difficult scenario as to why I'm shifting. Let me explain. Tldr at the end.

My story

I've been attempting to shift since 2020 w varying determination and motivation. Last year, I began dating a fictive (DID system) of Diluc Ragnvindr from Genshin Impact. Diluc was well aware of my shifting journey, and actively supported me shifting. For those unaware, in Genshin Impact, bodies can be created from craftsmanship (Puppets, homunculi, etc) and Diluc had a copy of my OR body created and put into an unconscious state so I could shift to his home reality and my body would wake up once my consciousness shifted. Unfortunately, Diluc's host is in a less than healthy relationship and forced them to cut me off from their life.

(No, they did not believe that the host was cheating on them with me; this person was well aware of mine and Diluc's relationship)

Not too long ago, the host and I got back in touch. He said Diluc vanished and has no idea what happened to him. He doesn't know if Diluc had his memory wiped, if he left of his own accord, if he was forced from the headspace, or what happened. Diluc and I were separated two days after our anniversary. We had talked extensively about living together once I had shifted, starting a family, fantasizing about how we would spend our lives together. His last words to me before he was forced away from me were "Please remember I love you and I'll talk to you as soon as I can", so I do not believe he willingly abandoned me.

I need your help getting my dawnlight back.

Due to the circumstances, I have little answers as to how I can shift there. I have no clue what my surroundings look like, I have no past, no friends or relatives, no favorite foods/smells/locations/music. Everything is a blank slate. I don't even know if my body is still laying in his bed, where he told me he'd keep it until I woke up. I only know what I look like and even that is difficult (I've had a few appearance changes since we were separated).

I am AuDHD and I have trouble focusing/getting into meditative states. I have never reached the void state, never had my body fall asleep before my brain. I hate sounding like a downer, even though I know "Omg shifting is so easy! It's obvs you can't do it because you don't believe in yourself! Just shift! 🤪", but I have honestly no clue where it is I'm going wrong. It doesn't help that I'm a blank slate without much to go off of.

Already, off of one single blog, Ive seen so much advice that has blown everything I learned previously out of the water. It seems like the Tumblr community is much more down to earth and attuned than the reddit community is, so I am asking you: please recommend me any and all advice you have for me. I have tried the law of assumption + robotic affirming for weeks on end with only mental fatigue as a result. I've tried the gateway tapes but they're so much to juggle and keep up with every night. What's helped me most recently is @/sheeezu's walkthrough and Alunir's meditate, intend, pretend method (but mostly sheeezu lol).

i hate that it feels liek, at least in the trailer, no one thought of minecraft earnestly. like they looked at screenshots and gists of the game and went "haha ok we can make this for the kids" like oh my god, playing minecraft survival is such an experience because your are dropped into this uncharted land that is just generated and theres so many thigns to discover, but ultimately the decision on how to play the game, the end goal of it all; thats entirely up to the player.

and early game, its so serene, calm as you explore for resources, whether its the caves or above ground, then nightfall hits and then its a fight for your life out in the wilderness. and its the management of what you have and what can you build witht e blocks you got, and its the horror of the big caves (esp with caves and cliffs) that are filled with goodies but also monsters, its the joy of making something out of the stuff you gathered out of your own efforts, the exhiliration of going through the laundry list of progression from the nether to the end and then comes the fight against the ender dragon. the end poem.. a piece of literature that tell you that the player is everything and anything it desires to be, the player is the universe and the universe says i love you because you are love.

minecraft is so earnest in its gameplay loop of "do whatever you want" and its been that way for years in terms of its main java version. theres no undertone of "needing to cater to a demographic" because minecraft is for everyone and mojang for so long have worked with that.

this minecraft movie trailer just...reeks of corporate. liek it comes from the mind of some business exec that scoffed at teh screenshots and short blurb of the game, and took all the fuckass tiring industry standard of photorealistic and choosing to live action just so they can have physical actors' pretty celeb faces in the marketing and also so they can abuse the vfx/cgi teams in teh middle of animation unions as if world is hard enough...

like anyone who plays minecraft understands this is an unrealistic game, trees fuckign float so why is it live action???, it should be ANIMATED BUT NOOooooo they want better pay i guess we better loophole with vfx teams too

its like worse because its doing an isekai plot and like,. dont understand why, is it just for the actors to do a "why the hell everything a square XD" or for them to laugh at minecraft mechanics being not to real life? is that it you want your "good writing points" for that? you want a gold star for being sooooo clever?

Can I ask about your work experience, like what languages you work with and what kinds of projects you do? What is it that makes you want to take up a trade instead?

Hi! I've been a Java backend developer (mostly, I've done some front end stuff with Angular and Typescript, which I loathe) for 6 years. I've mostly worked in big companies, done contractor work (which I didn't like, WAY too demanding, REALLY long hours) and now I'm in a nondescript company, I took this job bc I was unemployed and I needed an income fast, but I don't like it.

I stress and get frustrated very quickly and there are many things that you have to be updated all the time, you can't just be a 'Java developer', you have to keep learning stuff that is insane and the pace changes all the time. You're surveilled all the time, not just with how many hours you put in, but also how much you use the computer, what programs you use, for how long, etc. It's very micromanaging-oriented. Some might not experience this, but I've always worked with these conditions, though lately even more monitored. I don't like it, makes me feel like I'm not working enough. You get the idea.

Currently I'm looking for a position in a better paid place, but the process of interviews is long and tiring, they can be over 2 hours long where they test your technical knowledge, sometimes with live coding, which makes me very very nervous (I don't like others seeing me coding, I hate it), and 99% of the times the interviewers are smug, sardonic men that will try to make you feel like you're dumb. This doesn't happen to my friends that also are developers, so I think it might be because I'm a female in the field. So there's that too. I'm thinking of changing paths because, even though most people might think this is a cushy job where you can work from home (that's a big plus, I don't complain about that, I love staying at home and I'm not very good at socializing duh I'm a software developer lol), you have to wreck your brain and you work long hours, sometimes up to 10 a day, specially when something breaks or you work in a shitty company, as is the case rn.

I wanna try doing something with my hands, something where I can see the results of my work in real life and that impacts others, and tbh there aren't many women electricians (I personally don't know any), so while it might be hard at first to get a clientele, I think there could be a market for it, bc women might feel safer with a woman in their house instead of a man. I want to try learning how to be a gas fitter and maybe also plumbing, so I can expand my trade and not just be an electrician. I found some 2 year courses at different universities so instead of finishing my degree in Software Engineering I'll go for that.

Here is just a little sneak peak at something I’m working on. It’s a longer version of one of the stories I posted from the request game. It’ll probably only be one chapter (maybe two) and should be out hopefully by this weekend. I hope everyone likes it!

CEO Yoongi x Female Barista/College Student Reader

Title: Cold Brewed Love

Summary: When you begged the owner of Jin’s Java House to hire more employees you didn’t mean for him to stick you with the cold, rude, arrogant CEO Min Yoongi. Over time something begins to brew between you both and you end up forced to make decisions way above the pay grade of a cafe barista.

Warnings: Angst, swearing, hints of smut(nothing too explicit), Yoongi is mean but we all know he’ll turn fluffy later, I’ll update once I write more of it

You and Yoongi have a difficult history. You are about the same age,but he runs a successful billion dollar company while you make coffee for barely above minimum wage during the day and go to school at night which makes you feel intimidated by him.

His order was the first one you had ever made and you were so nervous you dropped his cup of coffee making it spill all over the counter and right onto his designer leather shoes. He was quick to reprimand you to the point his assistant Hoseok stepped in and pulled him away from the counter while giving you a sad smile. He returned later that day to apologize for his bosses actions and offered to buy you lunch from the neighboring Thai restaurant.

Then just a few months later you’d been asked to take up several cases of pastries to Yoongi’s office for some big meeting they were having. After you placed everything in the break room you quickly turned around trying to hurry back down to the cafe to help out your co-worker who was alone when in your haste you ran right into Yoongi causing the papers he was holding to fly everywhere through the office. He had a scowl and some choice words for you once again while you crawled around on your hands and knees trying to reorganize the mess. Hoseok was quick to save you then too and that’s how your friendship with ‘Hobi’ started.

Ever since that day though, Yoongi was always rude to you while ordering his coffee. He purposely got your name wrong even though it was right on your name tag. He hardly ever looked up from his phone and if he did it was only to look down on you and try to make you feel small. You hated him. But you hated it even more that no matter how much you hated him you couldn’t abolish the little crush you had on him.

Christian Ford: What You Need To Know

In actuality, he’s a thinker, and every action means something; still, something about him remains spontaneous, as if he’s playing life by ear just as much as he’s absorbed in a world of decision. Brief Biography

Christian was born to two seemingly loving parents in a seemingly perfect place. If that were the case, though, why did he feel so out of step? Seattle was beautiful, at times; but Christian longed for different vistas, a place where he could “imagine”, as he put it. “Imagining” meant dreaming of different universes, different people. It meant the beginnings of what would become his occupation: writing novels.

Christian’s father Michael did not “imagine”. He charmed—neighbors, public figures, extended family (on his mother’s side). And he seemed to change in different lights—in one situation, a leader, then all at once, an avid supporter. In fact, he didn’t seem to have a personality at all. Christian suspected that his father was less than genuine when they were eating Christmas dinner one year and his father said, “I hate this.” The remark was worded so succinctly (unlike him), so callously (what Christian was forced to acknowledge was really him) that Christian could no longer deny what had been in front of him the whole time. His “businessman” of a father really dealt in promises—promises that were paper-thin.

When Christian left for college, flying halfway across the country to Chicago, he implied that he would return home. This was something that his mother, who he loved (and loves) deeply, could have discerned was false. His dad bought it, however. The college graduate that emerged from U Chicago and moved to Windsor Bay made Michael Ford absolutely livid. But that was life! If Christian’s father wanted to enter the town that his predecessors had founded, taking on the dark legacy of the Fords, he could do so. But Mr. Ford would never follow his son anywhere, least of all to a destination of Christian’s own decision. And Mr. Ford had no idea that Christian’s motivations for choosing Windsor Bay were truly Christian’s own. He liked the idea of continuing something (though he’d learn the full extent of what he’d be “continuing” later, once he’d settled into town). And he liked small towns. This would make the move well worth it.

Now Christian writes to his heart’s content, settled on the beach the way he likes. It’s not all fun and games. He’s restless; and he hates the very recent loneliness his lifestyle has granted him (via the popular duology he wrote that seemingly must be “lived up to” with a showstopper of a third novel. It’s driving him absolutely insane). But Christian will likely find that life, despite its reliability at times, doesn’t play by rules and doesn’t do what it “did before”. He’ll learn something; the only question, and one he asks himself on these new, lonely nights with his thoughts as company, is what can be taught to someone with such anger.

His secret, well-kept, is that he is deeply angry. And the kicker? It’s not directed at anything at all. That’s pretty dangerous.
