looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

More, actually. I tend to go in cycles where I have a very prolific year like I did in 2016 and then a very dead year, so I was not expecting much from myself this year and I exceeded my minimal expectations. Now that I see the word count I hit I’m a bit surprised how much I did get done.

what’s your own favorite story of the year?

Hm. This is a hard question because I’m in the shadow of 2016 and I don’t think anything I wrote this year measures up to anything I wrote then. So I don’t really have one this year.

did you take any writing risks this year?

Writing Naga’s Story, especially since Naga is not a character I like and I usually try to write about her as little as possible. So branching out with Naga felt risky. I wrote for a lot of characters I usually don’t. Luke, Milina and Zangulus, I even focused on Zel and Amelia more than I usually do with Royal Pains. So I guess 2017 is the year I decided to branch out and explore other characters a bit. I’ve learned Zel and Amelia fans are really great about giving feedback.

do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?

Every year I keep saying I’m going to wrap up those pesky fics that I keep meaning to write and go back to doing original stuff, and every year I keep generating new ideas. I plan to keep Slayers, Neverending going. I have a fic about Martina I finally broke some ground on, and hopefully it will be a one shot. I have a post Slayers NEXT thing that I’ve written parts of and hate what I’ve written and wouldn’t even subject it to my cat. And I have a lemon that I’ve gotten half way through and can’t get motivated to finish. And, and finishing off the Ceiphied’s Curse series. Perhaps this will be the year I challenge myself to finish all of those, not generate any new ideas in the process, and then go back to writing original stuff.

best story of the year?

This is really hard for me to measure, because I felt like I wrote some of my best stuff in 2016 and 2017 just feels flat. Slayers, Neverending has gotten a lot of love, though I wouldn’t qualify it as my best and a lot of the issues I’ve tackled in it I’ve felt I’ve tackled better in previous fics.

most popular story of the year?

Slayers, Neverending

story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

For 2017? Unrequited? I think with Luke and Milina never appearing in the anime series kinda killed any momentum this one could have had.

most fun story to write:

Parts of Royal Pains were a lot of fun to write. All Apologies was also a lot of fun.

story with the single sexiest moment:

This was not a year for sexy moments. Probably All Apologies.

most sweet story:

Slayers, Neverending

”holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!” story:

I’m sure that there’s something in Royal Pains, given the nature of the topics it deals with, with an “that’s so wrong!” moment. The Storm dealt with some morally grey areas.

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters & most unintentionally telling story:

The Storm. One chapter made me want to give up writing.

biggest disappointment:

Naga’s Story wasn’t quite what I wanted it to be.

How supportive Zel/Amelia people are when you write something for that pairing, and now much I did end up writing this year.
