I just rewatched the Zanta claws eddisodes and they give a lot of insight into Tom as a character.

The first one shows that he knows who zanta claws is and has met him before, saying “get inside, NOW” after getting a closer look and seeing that it’s actually zanta and not Santa. How he met him is a mystery (was it when he was a child? A teenager? An adult? Did he actually just meet zanta claws right then and warned edd because he was a zombie?). It’s kinda cool to think that Tom has met Zanta before, and maybe that’s why he hates Christmas (maybe some sort of traumatic event involving Zanta is the reason).

Number 2 shows the boys most deepest desires. Edds being a cola pool (probably because he doesn’t really need anything and he wants it for shits and giggles), Matt’s being money (sort of self explanatory), but Tom’s, was a pair of eyes. Once he puts them in he exclaims, “I’m beautiful!”. This makes me wonder, was Tom’s deepest desire to be “normal” and “pretty”, and he believed having eyes would make him normal? He also seems pretty pissed when he sacrifices his eyes for a man he hates (Santa). Does tom only want to be normal? Is that his greatest desire?

Number 3 just shows him reaching is breaking point with Christmas and Zanta and all the other shit, using alcohol and destroying other people Christmas things to cope. Going back to what I said about the traumatic event happening, maybe he thinks that since he can’t have a happy Christmas, nobody can, causing him to terrorize the city. The only thing that could make him happy on Christmas, is the pain of others (this sort of shows when he says, “it’s my turn to celebrate Christmas” while blowing up the town)

Did I just write a 3-4 paragraph essay about a character from a dumb web series, including text evidence and explanations and a claim. Oh god please somebody help me

Zanta Claws 2 was the first Eddsworld video I watched and I remember this scene best because of the YTP’s and how wacky it is.

For the first time I draw Zanta. Everyone’s favorite Christmas villain in Eddsworld! I watched all three Zanta Claws in July last year when I start watching Eddsworld because I was bored and inspiration. I’m really loving the experiment of lightning and shading. What do you think? (It’s not the best, but I tried.)

But you know I think I might know what you're talking about with the Zanta Guy? I mean I didn't personally have an encounter with the guy but I thought I saw This weird guy in RL’s office. they were talking about something… something about sending him somewhere and I Think I heard him mention one of those names you spoke about before, Tom? 

I had to back off pretty quick. I think he knew I was there somehow.

And then I got lost again. :3

In any case, whoever that Tom guy is, I hope he's okay. Zanta Claws is really weird, and even though RL seemed pretty safe, it looked like not everybody was so lucky from the stains on the wall I ran into once or twice.

SOUND THE EDDSWORLD ALARMS

I HAVE MADE A BREAKTHROUGH

After hours of strenuous and meticulous research, I have found the most solid explaination for Tom's eyes

My magnum opus

And here , ladies and gentleman ,is my proof

FACT NUMBER ONE: TOM DOES NOT HAVE EYEBALLS

We are given several signs his sockets are empty, these being the most prominent ones

In 25ft under the seat he goes to proclaim "Life flashing before my eyes!" However stops before the final word, implying there are no eyes there to be flashed

In Zanta Claws II he receives a set of eyeballs, which he sticks inside his already empty sockets

In spares the clones of Tom have their eyeballs completely removed.

I do not need to explain

FACT NUMBER TWO: SOMETHING IS IN THERE.

Despite proof his sockets are empty, we are given scenes that would suggest otherwise. For example the intro to Moviemakers, where he presses his face against the glass and we can see something squish up against it

However the most important example of this is in Hammer & Fail part 2, where Tom attempts to rub his eyes only for them to sink in when pressure is applied

Obviously regular eyes cant physically do this, this would only happen if there was some sort of thin layer in front of an empty space

For example, a set of inner eyelids.

CONCLUSION: TOM IS A LIZARD PERSON.

The only logical explaination is these inner eyelids that can be opened or closed whenever he wants. (This would also explain why he can consistently touch his 'eyes' without any sort of discomfort, and why his they seem to stick out like eyeballs most of the time)

I have solved the greatest mystery of eddsworld

It is like absolutely insane how Tord was a character who did less and less to impact the plot with each eddisode he's in until he left and it essentially felt like nothing really changed cause by that point he was just a glorified window dressing. AND YET he still fucking haunts the show TO THIS DAY

The same year that Tord left, they talk about him in Zanta Claws 2, Zanta wears his hoodie in 3 as a side gag. WTFuture references him as Red Leader. Hammer and Fail 2 starts with an out of nowhere joke about "why did tord leave :(" he gets background referenced all throughout legacy to build up to th* *nd where he's front and center but also kind of trying to get away from the other guys all the time. It ends with him standing over a cliff and watching them walk away. Distant. But ever present. He's in a teenage photo in the background of surf n turf. Ripped away yet still clearly recognizable, literally just in the corner of your eye. He's in the chronicles of santa and immediately dies but he's there. By fucking god he's there no matter what

To us in the real ass world it's just kind of a "look he's gone get over it already" type reference but to the characters? In universe? He's haunting these people. His presence will not fucking leave this show no matter how much the other characters try to shake him off or how much he doesn't want to stick around either. He keeps coming up. He keeps showing up.
