Do you have any thoughts on more minor Wonder Woman rogues like Hypnota, Zara, Queen Clea or Blue Snowman ?

Hypnota and Blue Snowman overlap powerwise too much with Psycho and Minister Blizzard respectively for my taste. My preference is to have them be villains that Diana reforms and they join the Holiday Girls in supporting her. Both of those two have LGBT+ attributes that make them good choices to turn into heroes, plus we hear so much about Diana's desire to rehabilitate but the reality is that we can't ever see that done with the major villains. Otherwise who will Diana fight? But I think those two could be good examples of successful rehabilitations that Diana has done which show she's not naïve, and I'd rather see them reform over Mayfly who I'd keep as a villain.

Queen Clea seems like a better Aquaman villain than a Wonder Woman one. If she got heavily revamped I'd reconsider my opinion but that's where I stand as of right now.

Now Zara? She's got potential.

Like Minister Blizzard (in my revamp of him at least), she is a foe who serves as a foil to Wonder Woman's piety. An underrated aspect of Diana is that she is the most openly religious member of the Trinity, her origins are tied to divinity, her mission sometimes is issued by the gods, religion and faith are central to who Wonder Woman is. Originally Zara was created as a cult leader who founded a fake religion with herself as high priestess in an attempt to acquire power. Zara thus could serve as a foil to Wonder Woman and Minister Blizzard both. Those two are true believers who have actually been touched by the divine and are genuine in their faith. Zara meanwhile uses religion and faith as a means of control, of forcing people into submission to her will. All she deals in are lies meant to manipulate and ensnare people, with Wonder Woman needing to stand up for truth by confronting her. Definitely think there's untapped potential waiting to be explored with Zara.

Oh and there are no other major fire themed villains in Wonder Woman's Rogues Gallery that I know of, which is another major point in her favor. We've got Blizzard for ice, let's keep Zara for fire.

I think Meghan’s style sense is related to her incredibly low self-esteem (a root cause of malignant narcissism). She thinks that if she employs muted colours in luxury fabrics with designer labels, in both fashion and homewares, no one can possibly criticise her. She’s the human equivalent of a chain hotel - everything bland, boring and inoffensive with no personality or quirkiness. Her fashion faux pas stem from her laziness, grift and delusion - nothing fits properly, either because it will be sent back or because she’s not dressing for her real height and body shape- or her narcissism. The latter means that she wears stuff - ball gown skirts, capes, off the shoulders etc. - inappropriate to the occasion so she can stand out.

Real style means dressing how you want and not caring what others might think. It means choosing pieces which are appropriate to the occasion, fit impeccably but still have interest and personality that reflects you as a person. Of the Royal ladies currently, Zara and, funnily enough Beatrice since her marriage, do this best. They do have the occasional miss but more often than not look amazing.

I can see this but personally, I think Meghan dresses in muted neutrals because she believes it’s representative of wealth and luxury. It’s nothing more than dressing the part to have the part - if she looks wealthy and looks like luxury, then everyone will think she is wealthy and luxury, but it always fails because Meghan can’t be bothered to pay attention to the little details; undergarments, tags, hemlines,

As for why she might believe that the rich and famous wear muted neutrals? Yes, there’s the “quiet luxury” trend of Winter/Spring 2023 that morphed into the “mafia wife” trend of Fall 2023, which morphed into the “old money” trend of Spring/Summer 2024.

But it’s also Pretty Woman: Julia’s character wears muted, neutral colors (during the day) or long strapless/sleeveless gowns (for evening events) once she gets Richard’s money.

Alright, everyone. This probably will not be a long one because... oof... but without further ado, this is...

THE WORST MOVIE ON NETFLIX RIGHT NOW

Today, I am pleased to present A Family Affair, starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Joey King.

The premise for this very questionable movie is that Zara (King) is a personal assistant to the man-child movie star, Chris (Efron), and is horrified when her widowed mother, Brooke (Kidman) starts sleeping with him.

There's so much that's wrong with this movie, it's hard to figure out where to begin. I've watched it twice now to try to put my finger on the problem. The biggest issue here is that none of this feels particularly real -- definitely not King's acting, Efron's character, and least of all Kidman's wig.

ARITHMETIC

Even after watching this movie twice, I found myself spending way too much time trying to do some mental math in the middle to make everyone's ages make sense. Especially when they threw in Kathy Bates as Kidman's mother-in-law. Like... I think it works???

But it's fucking distracting.

The movie never meaningfully addresses the age gap between Kidman and Efron. On the one hand, sure. They wouldn't touch it if the genders were reversed. But that also feels disingenuous since Efron's character is hounded by paparazzi. You're telling me this schmuck who obsesses about his brand as an actor never has a single moment of insecurity about dating an older woman!?!?!? PLEASE.

FAKE FANTASY

It feels at times like this movie is a fantasy every which way you look at it, except for in the way that matters. As a viewer, I want to get swept up in the fantasy -- what if I had a meet-cute with a movie star!? What if I was a published novelist, with beachfront property in Malibu, and an entire closet of couture dresses that Vogue sent me and that could fit me?! What if I could afford a luxury SUV on an assistant's salary?!? What if Big Bear actually looked like that in the snow!?

The thing is, all of this falls so flat, you can't get lost in it as a viewer. And it's not funny or charming enough to keep you interested in the story or get you invested in the relationships.

HATEABLE

I regret to inform you there's not a single likeable character in this movie. The Zac Efron movie star feels like it was written from the whispers of disgruntled assistants. It's just TOO AWFUL. And while at times it can be funny, it's hard to believe that Nicole's character could ever fall for him.

Look, I don't know if you know this, but movie stars, especially ones who mostly get by on looks, are VERY CHARMING. This is part of how they get cast. But in this movie, we never see this motherfucker be charming. Not even once.

Joey's character is probably right for objecting so hard to this relationship, but she spends so much of the movie just screaming about things, it's really fucking hard to be rooting for her. Also, she's obviously a rich kid. Like MALIBU RICH.

And Nicole... like... I have so many questions... like... look I hate that this is where we're at with things, but there's something uncanny valley about her face and her hair through the whole movie. It's kinda hard to watch her or feel anything for her. That must be a wig. It must be. And it's just so awful the whole time. This is such a far-cry from how she looked in Big Little Lies. WHAT HAPPENED.

THE IDEA OF YOU PROBLEM

Look, the biggest issue here is that this movie gets wrong all of the things that The Idea of You got right. Where A Family Affair ignores the age gap, The Idea of You wrestles with it as a central part of its plot. While A Family Affair dresses Nicole in horribly unattractive clothes, The Idea of You puts Anne Hathaway in a stunning, sexy wardrobe.

WHO DID THIS TO YOU NICOLE!?!?

While both films present fantasy lives for their leading ladies (a novelist and an art gallery owner), The Idea of You seems somehow more real and thus attainable as fantasy (a craftsman house in Silverlake as opposed to a beachfront mansion in Malibu). While A Family Affair alludes to sex and romance, it doesn't have even a hint of the sex appeal and romance of The Idea of You. It's never even clear what Nicole's character sees in Zac's, beyond his body, even once the relationship has begun to carry on and clearly affect her emotionally.

In many ways, these films are mirrors of each other. Neither of these are perfect movies, and they share a lot of similar story beats and themes: the relationships, including mother-daughter, fame and celebrity, solo female success, betrayal of the spouse, and so on and so forth.

But A Family Affair is basically the funhouse mirror version of the story. It may make you giggle a couple times, but you're not going to stand there taking it in for very long. Best to just move on and forget you ever saw it.

I FINALLY GOT ONE OF THESE, YIPPEE!!!! (and the last one ever, too....) Anyways, I'm going to answer the storytelling one, bc that's what I do.

For me it depends on the scene. If I can find a lot from tumblr or the gallery, great! I'll download it and modify it a little if I need to. But if no such thing exists (that I can find at least), or at least no such thing that fits my vision or needs, I'll make it myself. Being a fantasy storyteller, that happens more often than I'd like. I'm absolutely terrible at exteriors, so whenever possible I'll use someone else's lot as a shell. But for interiors, I don't mind decorating in the slightest, and I honestly enjoy doing landscaping for outdoor scenes.

All of the rooms in the The Palace I either decorated myself or had a friend decorate for me. I also built (and shared!) the lot from Kristopher's date. I also built the exterior of the garrison for Nina's date. Oh, and I build the pond lot from Duncan's date!

The graveyard from the prologue, the exterior area from Lavinia's date, the stables from Kristopher's date, the ruins from Nora's date, and the town from Hermes's date were all existing lots that I downloaded from either tumblr or the gallery. I did modify all of them slightly, though, be it by adding decosims or decor items.

Sequel to this

When it comes to Wonder Woman's Rogues Gallery, she has a surprisingly small pool to draw from. Mostly because writers have focused more on making her fight gods, demigods and monsters, so they kinda forgot she had other options. That's why I wanted to shy away from them a little, with only one exception.

Her first episode villain should be a real jobber, someone like Angle Man or Paper Man, small timers that wouldn't pose too much of a threat at first. Then we can transition into more traditional villain choices: Blue Snowman, Giganta, Zara, Silver Swan (not the Vanessa Kapatelis version), Doctor Psycho, Hypnota, White Magician, Doctor Cyber, etc. Then maybe some reimaginings of the lesser known/weird villains BTAS style: Saturna, Queen Clea, Queen Atomia, Cyborgirl, Human Tank, Sharkeeta, Gundra, Inventa, Tigra Tropica, the list goes on.

Cheetah wouldn't appear until late season one/season two, but Dr Barbara Ann Minerva, assistant Curator and head researcher for Gateway City's Museum, would be around from the very start, almost with a ticking clock for when she'll turn to the dark side.

Season one's main villain would be Circe, secretly manipulating/creating villains in order to destroy Diana and the rest of the Amazons. Season two's villain would be Doctor Cyber and her team of hired mercenaries and villains: Villainy Inc.
