As someone who has been seriously considering joining this guild, I want to personally thank you for what you have done today. In the grand scheme it won't matter, her followers are THICK. But know, your words have opened my eyes and I will be seeking RP elsewhere. I wish you had the time and energy to create a guild again, I would join in a heartbeat, no matter the theme. Cheers mate! I appreciate the support. The League’s RP has always been, for the most part, superb, but the social hierarchy being tied to Demitria’s person is an absolute travesty. Even the most diligent defenders of the League need only look at the extent to which characters like Raleigh, Lohn, etc. were encouraged to act outside of the military hierarchy due to their relationship with Demitria’s character. It’s not something I fully realized until several months after I was exiled. It was hard for me too, considering I’d always been closer to the upper echelon given my history with the guild. However, I learned about it through various accounts from lower ranked members who were either asked to leave or simply learned to keep their mouth shut and focus on other things.

Still, I believe the realization of the “hierarchy” has been a significant problem for the League in the short time I’ve returned to WoW. 

An interesting story that highlights this is the “Advisor” rank drama about a year ago, where after my exile, it was clear that the League had an “Advisor” rank with no one to really fill it. Kerdic was the ex-GM and essentially a “retired officer”, so it fit what the “Advisor” rank envisioned. That changed when I was kicked, obviously. An individual known as Zaramy became a favorite among Demitria’s inner circle, and while the circle wished to fast track Zaramy through the guild’s ranks, the League’s upper echelon instead opted to promote Zaramy, who was an auxiliary (the lowest rank) at the time, directly to Advisor, a position that was spiritually reserved for ex-officers or longtime members of the League.

As you might have expected, this threw many lower-ranked members in the League to an outrage through the DM grapevine, of course, because no one was going to pitch a fit publicly and ruin their chances of promotion by contesting Demitria’s inner circle openly. These were the members who’d been, in many cases, a member longer than Zaramy, but were completely bypassed due to favouritism. What’s sad, though, is it highlighted the apparent disconnect between Demitria’s inner circle and the regular members. I was given the impression by the few individuals in Demitria’s inner circle I still shared contact with that they, “couldn’t understand” why people were so upset. Again, keep in mind that many of these officers have been a part of the guild’s leadership longer than I’d been the League’s GM. How could they not have seen the uproar that would result from their blatant favouritism?

Nevertheless, Zaramy was demoted from Advisor to appease the mob, and then blatantly fast-tracked through the regular ranks for the sake of appearances. Yes, Zaramy, made Lieutenant (the first tier officer rank of League) before many tenured Sergeants in the League who made it very clear that they were interested in pursuing an officership position as well and had been in the League, in some cases, for years. You see, when you do something like that, you crush those aspiring individuals who obviously don’t quite “cut it” for the officership position. You would think Demitria’s inner circle would be proactively helping those individuals and giving constructive criticism, but instead, these Sergeants (who often were more active/diligent than the inner circle’s leadership as far as event creation) were being led around by a carrot on a stick.

The key thing to realize is there are no set parameters to being promoted to an officer in the League of Lordaeron. You’re simply told to, “Be Active/Host Events”, and what this does is encourage people like Rennae to host events for literally a month straight. Yes, 30+ days of events to catch the officers’ attention. This guy was literally getting 3-4 hours of sleep that month in some cases, but given how the guild’s promotion system is hardly transparent (because it’s based on officer favouritism), this was how a League of Lordaeron member interpreted the only way to be considered for promotion. And, unsurprisingly, it worked. A dangerous precedent was set as a result.

To the inner circle’s credit, they banned members from filling up the whole month with their events after “Fricketober”. Yet, I believe that was more so because it prevented others from hosting their own campaigns, rather than any attempt to make the progression from Sergeant to Lieutenant much more readable. I also think it’s laughable that while many of the current and past Sergeants were busting their ass to be considered for promotion, other individuals like Alison made it clear that Demitria was very eager to promote them if they wanted to take up the officership mantle. In other words, Alison would have most likely been fast-tracked if Alison had desired it, but instead, Alison opted to decline the offer. It is possible Demitria wasn’t being entirely serious, but that is how Alison interpreted it and only reinforces that convenient excuse Demitria uses which is “plausible deniability”. 

Either way, I think two instances of blatant favouritism is more than enough for anyone with a brain to understand the reality of the League’s promotion system. I am sure the inner circle will deny such things, and maybe they’ve changed it to become more transparent in recent days, but I think what matters most is how your members interpret it. If Sergeants feel ostracized and are continuously getting their hopes crushed every guild meeting, there’s a problem. 

And yes, that problem is the League’s shitty officer core.

His reasons for joining the League were simple: take back Lordaeron so that he might, one day, see Pyrewood restored. An altruistic, but ultimately, self-serving ideal. Scout Barlow, soldier of the Alliance, was defined only by his actions. Everything else was lost upon Lordaeron's collapse. His home, his past, Torvald... there was nothing left among the ghosts of his past to call him home. But if he could, somehow, help in some way to rebuild what once was then, perhaps, he would die with a purpose fulfilled.

But his reasons to stay were multiplying by the day. His tiny thread of life was swiftly, easily, being woven into the tapestry of the League's history. And it crossed over and under so many more: Sato, James, Erin, Kelmia, Zaramy...

Demitria.

The orange glow of the torchlight on the Tower walls; the constant hum of the nexus convergence; guarded glacial eyes giving way to inexplicable warmth; crimson lips parted ever so and—oh.

Raleigh inhaled. The fingers on his stomach twitched, his eyes fluttered open, and he blinked a few times as consciousness flooded through him. He was lying on his bunk, one foot hanging off the mattress, with the blankets tangled around his legs. Dimly he was aware of a conversation happening just beyond the door, along with the general bustle of the Keep in the morning. His face pinched as he blinked, again, and brought his palms up to rub at his eyes with a tired grumble.

How delightfully inappropriate of his mind to string along such a sweet dream if only to fan the flames of his ultimately futile attraction—his collarbone twinged, eliciting a soft hiss from him.

But as his fingers trailed to rub the pain out of the sore spot, realization dawned on him.

“Well, wasn't expectin' that.” he chuckled under his breath as a bemused smile tugged at his lips.

I killed two men.
