@seriously-sheith I gotchu fam hold on I'll show you. So I think it was voltronofficial on Instagram who first posted James' stats a few days ago:

Strength: 15. Agility: 17. Intelligence: 14.

People have been comparing him mostly to Allura, Shiro, and Lance.

Strength: 8 bars. Agility: 9 bars. Intelligence: 10 bars.

Strength: 10 bars. Agility: 9 bars. Intelligence: 10 bars.

Strength: 8 bars. Agility: 12 bars. Intelligence: 7 bars.

So Lance stans are mad that James has higher stats than James, even though if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

Strength? Lance fights long distance, and it even says in his stats that firefighting (his gun) comes in handy against bigger and better opponents. While James was stuck behind the particle barrier around the garrison for THREE YEARS. What else was he going to do aside from work out and train? And even before that he already looked broader, so we should've known he was ripped from the beginning.

Agility? Once again, Lance is a long range fighter, and considering that point, its remarkable his agility stat is so high! While James has been training in the air and on the ground for a long time already. His fighter pilot training probably prepared him for anything (and like it or not he was studying and training towards being a fighter pilot way longer than Lance, who had only been classed as such for MAYBE six months before his studies were cut short when Shiro came back to earth).

Intelligence?

That speaks for itself honestly.

Yes, James' remarkably high stats are somewhat odd compared to characters like Shiro (gladiator champion with bionic arm), Allura (canonly has super strength), or even Zarkon, but I don't see how it's a justified reason to hate James, and even worse? HARASS AJ. He doesn't deserve that bullshit.

The paladins were only training in space for a YEAR. Shiro was up there for two years (including his time as a gladiator). There is a three year interlude where they lost time to train and strengthen and improve.

Whereas everyone on earth had an additional three years to hone their stats and abilities.

So whether you like it or not, I think James' stats are accurate to his character as well as to the time line. Yes, he really is that strong and agile, because he had extra time to train where the paladins DIDN'T.

So I wasn’t going to go on Twitter at all to see any of the James discourse because I thought it would just upset me, as normally discourse regarding a character I really loves makes me honest to God sick to my stomach and sad. Soon as I got off work, though, I decided to chance it and take a peek because of curiosity, and I was not upset at all. Nay, in fact, I started laughing my fucking ASS off. Guys, don’t worry, this isn’t discourse, it’s a fucking sitcom:

So basically the antis at the moment are upset about two things regarding James.

A) He has higher stats and seems to be getting a lot more attention from both showrunners and fans than their pwecious Wance and

B) He’s white

And I’m just sitting here-

I just need to make sure that everyone knows prejudice can go both ways, right?

Voltron can have a minority person of color be LGBTQ and fans will be happy, and they can make one of the main female protagonists a strong, beautiful, BAMF black angel who’s also an alien, and they can have purple skinned aliens with ears…

But God forbid they put a white person in a position of importance in the show, because then the showrunners are racist and hate women.

And lonce stans hate him because James has higher stats? And he’s getting more attention from people? And people care more about James than their precious bi angel who can do no wrong? I won’t deny that last part because yes, I do in fact care more about James, but that’s just me.

Not to mention that whole “he reminds me of my ex” bit.

People are getting triggered by how hot James Griffin is, I’m not even surprised. Seriously though, this isn’t even that bad. James lovers just continue to love our good boy and giggle at the antis because look how cute they are when they try this hard ♡ I was almost worried that the discourse would make me hate James or something but nah, turns out I just love him even more now.
