i think its only fitting that i try to figure out kaveh's deal, since the genshin writers stick him with haitham all the time

but he's not that deep

because kaveh is VAIN

unable to find any inner self worth, he chains himself to his reputation, bound by how others perceive him

haitham gets called egocentric, but even as his mirror, kaveh's not free from his ego. in fact, i think kaveh has it worse

human lifetimes are short, and since one life's not good enough, kaveh wants a legacy. he wants his reputation to outlive him

he is so starved for validation of his ego that he's casting at least some of his hopes into the future, past his own death

normal thoughts to have about architecture?

everything in kavehs life is filtered through how he interprets it, and he fully believes that the decisions and misfortunes of others are his responsibility, as long as kaveh was involved somewhere

this is why he takes everything as a personal attack - unlike alhaitham who is hyper-aware of everything around him and uses that to control his circumstances, kaveh is less of a busybody but is still compelled to think that he does have influence over others, whether it be their personal independent decisions, or how they perceive him

that's not to say kaveh is completely self centered. he has a strong sense of justice, and is very altruistic. but it still all comes back down to his ego - he would never want anything to tarnish his hard-fought and sterling reputation

but kaveh's also completely lost at the difference between compassion and empathy

to kaveh, the only reason to help someone is out of vanity, empathy, or pity

...which is why he thinks alhaitham would never help others, and is constantly surprised that he's friends with tighnari and cyno

if people don't feed kaveh's vanity - or care about their own vanity - it bothers him

and again - haitham's not oblivious! kaveh may lie to his face, but haitham can read kaveh's mood and rationalize accordingly

but what kaveh ultimately wants is not to be understood, but to be admired

haitham wants to be separate from others because he has the lofty goal of being an objective, impartial observer who can sort things out clearly from a neutral perspective, and for his own ends. it is a deeply inhuman goal that he nonetheless desires

kaveh wants to to be separate from others because he's too emotionally fragile to withstand being disliked, or a failure. kaveh would be the guy thinking "hell is other people" without ever considering whether relying on others for validation is a problem

haitham is uninterested in admiring people beyond acknowledging their talents and accomplishments, and ends up being an utter nightmare for kaveh('s ego) to deal with

haitham "letting" kaveh rent his room at the house that both of them are legally entitled to is a predicament that kaveh himself has no interest in working through, because he would have to ask some difficult questions and acknowledge his own faults, and kaveh instead sticks up his nose and stubbornly suffers because of his pride

i think haitham's just waiting for kaveh to get his emotions unstuck from the dark hole kaveh himself trapped them in, but haitham doesn't want to extend any more effort than he already has in setting kaveh on the right path

to haitham, none of the remaining fault lies with him. and to kaveh, all of the fault is his own, but he's trying to blame haitham just to spare his own feelings. thankfully, haitham is mostly immune to it

kaveh is completely incapable of moving on from the fact that haitham understands him, and twists himself into knots over it

he is not without merit, but eternally miserable because of his own mental problems

kaveh isn't particularly scrunkly to me, but i see it

whenever i find out one of my friends have changed their name or they're like trying out new pronouns or something similar im always like this is great, we should have a party and we should invite everyone we love . this deserves a party, i love you, i hope it makes you happy or at the very least you've learned something new about yourself

you know i remember reading someone’s meta pointing out the casual racism in lena’s dialogue when you bring up the kind green ape and she reveals that she believes kim to be a completely separate species from the rest of them 

and up to that point, lena was shown to be a very loveable character and understandably everyone loves her (i do too) and so plenty of people would be caught off guard by her casual racism

i think when lena’s casual racist remarks came up in my playthrough, i was prickled and disappointed but i don’t think i would describe my feelings at the time as complete surprise. lena’s remarks were not dissimilar from the kinds of comments i would get about my own background and country of origin

although i never encountered rhetoric that was explicitly race science in its ideology that is evident in lena’s remark, all of the rhetoric i encountered dehumanizes my heritage and assumes that i wish to ‘ascend’ from my own home culture. for instance, many canadian queers i encountered would overly presume that i had suffered greatly due to my queerness in my home country when that is very far from my actual reality as a queer person existing here. they would ask if i had applied for asylum, when that isn’t really an option for me because i would have to prove that my life was in immediate danger, which is an experience i just do not have even though my home country is very queerphobic in its society, institutions and legal system. there exists a strong undercurrent of homonationalism that threads through a lot of my interactions with most queer people who are invested in first world countries as being inherently more lgbtq friendly than other countries, despite evidence to the contrary.

whenever i encounter the opinions of liberals on asian politics (both irl and online), they betray their actual convictions that view asian-ness as inherently ‘lesser’, ‘backwards’ or ‘barbaric’. they constantly refer to the asian immigrant narrative as one of realizing their liberal subjectivity and by extension their personhood via moving towards the first world liberal democratic countries and to shun and cut off ties to the homeland, with the implication that asian cultures and societies are inherently ‘sexist’, ‘homophobic’, ‘racist’ and ‘unenlightened’. this does the work of ignoring the historical, political and socio-economic contexts of issues within asian societies and instead attributes these problems to our own heritage and ‘backwards’ culture. liberal rhetoric frequently dehumanizes the people who still remain in our countries, framing the high population count as ‘swarms’ or ‘brainwashed masses’ and our prioritization of the collective over the individual as ‘authoritarian’. although many liberals i meet would pay a lot of lip service to being pro-asian, their actual words reveal their continued subscription to yellow peril tropes disguised as concern for the poor yellows in their despotic homeland.

lena’s casual racism couched in her benevolence is way more pervasive than the blatant racism espoused by the racist lorry driver and measurehead. lena’s disability also factors as i could never be free from the racism within other marginalized communities, my encounters with queer communities being a prime example

idk how to articulate this right but it's weird when vegans and people who aren't vegans blame each other for like. stuff that happens because of capitalism???? like ppl who aren't vegans will b like "well what about the impoverished people who grow your vegetables huh??" like well that's a capitalism problem and not an inherent problem to veganism. and then vegans will be like "the leather industry is actually super harmful for the environment" and well that's also a capitalism problem and not necessarily inherent to leather

like most arguments relating to veganism seem like they're just dancing around the issue of capitalism. TO ME. this is just my own observation.

ANYWAY i bought my sister matcha marshmallows (which are marshmallows with matcha jelly inside) and gave her half of the korean banana milk i bought and she said i made her very happy and that my "kindness will not be forgotten" lol
