also i think they got together post zaki death because before that it was complicated & messy but not in a like toxic way or anything it was just like obligations & sides & whatever like. zaki having been ssg for so long & his loyalty remaining to kondo first & foremost despite everything even as he worked in zura's joui faction. i do think everyone in the ssg got character assassinated when zaki died BUT rolling along with it means that the only person who saw it for what it is (as in. someone dying & the actual gravity of it) is the one guy who was committed to. this bit. this guy. the bit guy. the guy who is a bit. do you HEAR ME am i alone in here am i sensible hello

zura's cat ears pop up during a speech & some guy in the crowd laughs. zaki, standing right in front of him, spins his head 180°. "what's so funny bud". "huh? what's so funny? i can't hear you". no one laughs at zura's cat ears anymore after enough times of this being done due to the rumours of an absolute fucking freak terrorising anyone who dares have a hearty chuckle about it

partner has brought up the idea of zaki being able to rotate his head even before losing it we just never found out bc it was never relevant. it's fucked hilarious so i'm voting to keep this BUT ALSO he's still fucked up about his head rotating now because the rotation mechanics are different & he's not used to them. people think he panics about it because of the rotation itself but it's mostly that it feels really weird and uncomfortable and he doesn't know how it works. and so he still needs zura to twist his head back into place

now if you ask me how i account for cyborg zaki in my mind machinations i say it's either a temporary thing due to zaki being a near constant joke character so there's no reason to take it too seriously OR i (redesign him a bit and) make it really dramatic because i'm nothing if not an angst enjoyer. wouldn't it be so sad if your loved one died & came back absurdly wrong & on top of that he doesn't even remember you or anything else for that matter. and you could never be with him before this due to your conflicting professions

i dont know if its funnier if zura is barely cognisant of zaki's existence or if he has that most tragic star crossed unconditional love for him that he's incredibly serious about even after zaki's not a cop anymore. like wouldn't it be so fucking funny too.
