Ask Me Stuff About Valicer In The Dark!

I added the verse itself to the list back in September, but have yet to do anything with it (it's a weird verse, so it's hard to fit a lot of asks into it). So I'm encouraging you all to ask me about it -- or ask the characters about themselves! Let's get a little life into the verse. :)

Ask Game Idea: The Valice Multiverse On The Valice Multiverse

AKA, ask me what what any one of my universes on here thinks of any of the others! Here's a link to my Google Doc with the full write-up of each universe, with a tl;dr version below:

-->Forgotten Vows: The crossover you probably all know me for, where Victor ends up sent to the Houndsditch Home for Wayward Youth after the events of Corpse Bride and ends up meeting and befriending Alice in time to live through the events of Alice: Madness Returns with her

-->Secundus: The mega steampunk Mad Scientist crossover, where Victor is accidentally kidnapped to the titular city by Doc and Marty testing out the flying steam train, and ends up staying and becoming involved with Alice and all the other weird and wonderful characters there

-->Catch Us If You Can: A dark AU ending to the Forgotten Vows Verse where a brainwashed Victor ended up in Rutledge after Alice had to leave him at the train station where she killed Bumby to flee a witness to her crime, and after he regains his memories and Alice breaks him out, the pair end up on the streets of London killing scumbags like Bumby

-->Cuddlepile: Standard Modern AU setting, with everyone at least NOMINALLY in college -- the idea is that this is a world in which Victor, Alice, Victoria, Emily, Christopher White, Richard Hatter, Smiler Alton, Preston Garvey, and Piper Wright are all together in a big polycule, though in practice I've been focusing on the Valicer subgroup lately

-->Inevitable High School AU: The other Standard Modern AU setting, this puts Victor and Alice (and, more recently, Smiler) in a high school run by fucking Cave Johnson, so there's less learning going on and more shenanigans

-->Aperture Wage Slave: A Portal crossover AU where Victor is a lepidopterist and Alice a test subject in Aperture Science during the time when Cave Johnson is alive and still running things. Neither of them are particularly happy with their current situation, with this particular Victor being the most sarcastic and depressed of the lot

-->Londerland Bloodlines: The Vampire: the Masquerade -- Bloodlines AU, where Alice takes the place of the Malkavian fledgling during the events of the game, while Victor takes the place of Heather and ends up her ghoul and a major emotional support while she handles all the nonsense that comes with being the Fledgling (depending on the time period, Victoria, Emily, Lizzie, and Bonejangles are also around -- the former because she ALSO moved to LA to escape her parents, the latter three thanks to Giovanni nonsense)

-->Fallout Of Darkness: The Fallout 4/VTMB AU which sees Victor thrust into the role of the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, putting his Army engineer training to the test against post-apocalyptic Boston...and Alice returning in her "Malkavian Fledgling" guise as his companion because that's what my brain wanted (he's rigged up a sleeping bag for her to travel in during daylight hours)

-->Technicolor Phase: A polyamorous soulmate AU based on the idea of people important to you giving you different colors throughout your life, featuring Victor, Victoria, and Emily getting into a throuple during the events of Corpse Bride, and then meeting Alice afterward and bringing her into the polycule post Alice: Madness Returns

-->Valicer In The Dark: A crossover with the TTRPG Blades In The Dark, where Victor, Alice, and Smiler are all citizens of Duskwall -- a haunted Victorian-esque city that runs off "electroplasm" in a world where a cataclysm 850 years ago snuffed out the sun and made it so no one could pass on to the afterlife. After being accused of the murder of a Spirit Warden (a very important position in Duskwall), the trio ended up turning to crime, and now operate as the crew The Three Pillars in the derelict district of Six Towers

...okay, maybe all that was a bit tl;dr in itself, but still. XD Feel free to ask me what the citizens of any one of those universes would think of any of the others!

Meanwhile, in a somewhat more modern AU. . .

Victor: [carrying a pole under his arm and marching toward the door with a sense of purpose] Come on, everyone, we’re going to the park!

Alice: [eyeing the pole] And -- doing what, exactly?

Victor: It’s May Day! Didn’t you ever celebrate it in Oxford?

Alice: Not after the sun went down.

Victoria: [getting some ribbons ready] Well, we weren’t about to start without you.

Emily: [plops a flower crown on Alice with a giggle] Come on! It’s so nice out, you just have to dance!

Alice: [unable to help a smile] I’m a vampire, not a fairy.

Secundus All Hallow’s Eve

"Alice? What are you doing?"

Alice glances up at her husband. "I'm carving our pumpkin. I thought that was obvious from the knife and the pumpkin."

"Yes, fair enough, but--" Victor leans forward and squints. "Are you carving -- a pumpkin shape?"

Alice smirks. "Jack Skellington said he had some prizes on offer for clever jack-o-lantern ideas. I'm hoping going recursive will at least get a laugh."

"Ah. Can I help at all?"

"Well, if you want to chuck those guts away before Lightning inevitably finds his way into them. . ."

A Rather Unmerry Birthday

Alice: [sulking by the window] Bloody birthday, doesn’t even mean anything anymore now that I’m dead. . .

Victor: . . . [approaching cautiously] Can I help?

Alice: Unless you can give me the ability to eat cake again, I’m afraid not.

“Happy Birthday To Me. . .”

Alice lays on her couch, cuddling her cat Splatter and singing softly to herself. “Happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear Alice, happy birthday to me. . .”

“Meow,” says Splatter, kneading her chest.

“If that’s a comment on my singing voice, you’ll have to be more specific.”

“Happy May Day!”

Victor is sporting both a smile and a flower crown made of daisies. “Would you like one?” he asks, gesturing to the basket over his arm, which is practically overflowing with more homemade flower jewelry. Seems someone’s been very busy celebrating the beginning of May.

Make A Pretty Cake

"Hmmmmm, hmmm, hmmmmmm. . ."

The sound drifts through the Van Dort/Liddell kitchen -- a sweet, meandering little melody. The source, if anyone is curious, is one Victor Van Dort, standing at the counter. He's shed his jacket and tie and replaced them with an apron, and he's mixing some sort of batter in a big bowl. Nearby is a bowl full of strawberries, freshly-picked, and a round pan. Looks like someone's making a cake, doesn't it? Of course, Victor's always been determined that his wife have cake on her birthday. . .

Alice: A question for anyone who might care to answer it -- how do you convince your new boyfriend that simply being free and alive with him is enough of a gift on your birthday?

[She'll not mention the fact that "being free and alive" is enough of a gift because she thought for sure she'd be spending said birthday in the asylum. Also, prepared to run like the dickens should anyone recognize her]

Alice: Look, I know I can't get out of testing, but could I at least get the fabled cake you keep saying you're going to give the subjects at some point? It is my bloody birthday.

Monsters

[leaning against a streetlamp, looking out into the dark] Halloween night. Funny. . .when I was a child, both Pastor Galswells and the other boys tried to convince me that Halloween was the worst day of the year. All those stories of monsters lurking in the dark, demons waiting to steal your soul. . .I often spent All Hallow’s Eve hiding under my covers, just waiting for it to be over.

Now. . .well. Now I know those stories are true. Maybe not literally, and certainly not dependent on the calendar, but -- I’ve seen monsters and demons up close. Nearly been consumed by them too. [sighs, then straightens up] But there’s something they never told me as a child. Something that’s very important to me as an adult.

[grins evilly as he pulls out his blade] Even monsters have monsters.

Trick Or Teenager?

[watching a passing group of seniors chatting about their Halloween plans with a puzzled expression] Did they just say -- trick or treat? I thought -- isn't sixteen usually the last year anyone lets you get away with it?

Hallowon’t

"They told me Halloween was amazing here."

Victor sits on a random pile of rubble, staring up at a gray sky, his dog at his side. "That the whole town went mad for it. Madder than usual, I mean. People hanging up decorations all over the city. Pumpkin carving competitions. Costume contests. Creature races. Free candy at all the shops -- and most people’s houses as well. And a big parade on the day itself." He sniffs and hugs himself. "I was -- I was s-so looking forward to it. . ."

Hope whines and puts his head on Victor's leg. Victor reaches down to scratch him behind the ears. "It's okay boy. We'll get her." He grits his teeth. "We'll get her. . .and one day, I will see what Halloween's like here."

Store Trick-Or-Treat

"Welcome, and Happy Halloween!" Victor waves a hand at the large bowl of sweets sitting on the front counter, grinning from beneath a large, curled wig. "Would you like a treat? Or I suppose I could provide a trick, if you prefer."

Pet-O-Lantern?

"Moonlight! Don't play in the pumpkin guts! Bayard, that goes double for you!"

Victor chases the pets away from the pile, while Alice watches with an amused smile from in front of the hollowed-out pumpkin. "Well, that's what you get for like rambunctious scamps," she teases, picking up the pen to start drawing the face. "This is why I like -- Splatter! No, you cannot sit in the pumpkin!"

[stares longingly at the ceiling above his office]

I really wish I was spending May Day somewhere aboveground. . .
