Misfits and Magic is a show that explores young people encountering and pushing back against a system that neither serves or represents them.

This provides a channel for it's audience to model the protaganist's behaviour - to begin to question the narrative and world building of harry potter. To realise and deconstruct the systems of oppression that have been built into the franchise (which they, like the students of Gowpenny, took at face value, due to childhood naivety and a lack of outside knowledge)

TLDR: MisMag not only critiques JKR + HP but also invites it's audience to deconstruct what they internalised from their exposure to the source material.

some of yall really out here missing the entire point of misfits and magic

you can't make a problem go away just by pretending it doesn't exist. you have to call it out.

misfits and magic calls out that book series in every way possible, from the general discrimination to the lack of diversity to the specific idea that kids are evil from age 11.

should that book series get more publicity? no. but if the bullshit that author does is ignored, it will only fester and become a bigger problem. call out the issue without giving the issue any money. call out the issue in an effective manner. and in this case, call out the issue in a fun way that supports actual queer people.

A reminder that the journey is more important than the destination. The hilarious moments aren’t lessened for the arc not having a “perfect” conclusion

I kinda like that not all the Dimension 20 campaigns have well-rounded finales or lessons the characters learn. It can be a little underwhelming as a viewer, but I think it's sort of a nice reminder about the medium being improvisational and on the players parts at least pretty unplanned as a whole. Sure, the DM knows what's going on and has a story in mind, but sometimes that gets hijacked by players just trying to do what feel both right and fun in the moment, which can happen a lot in TTRPG. Yes, Dimension 20 is a show being produced for entertainment, but it's also a group of nerds around a table just playing a game, and its imperfections and occasional goofiness give it charm

Y'know, I really hate to be that person, but NSBU Isn't That Deep and a lot of the discourse surrounding it is needless

Are the story beats, character dynamics and gameplay all a lot messier than other seasons? Maybe. But no matter how eloquently Brennan phrases his narration, you need to remember he's narrating things like "I fart and they all fall asleep." This season was not made to tell a compelling story, it was made for everyone to blow up and have a good time.

The nerd in me wanted to know what Ify rolled for that check to fire the missile in space, I calculated it out and IT CAME OUT TO 155. Ify has been iconic this season and rolling a 155 on a skill check is definitely one of my top moments of his.
