She had hidden half of her own face with the blanket as he drew near to her side, and she watched his movements carefully. What if her room is too much of a pigsty for him to think well of it? Does he even want to be here, or is he just abiding by her words?
The princess stiffened a bit as his bigger body bent over her own to tuck the sheets in like she’d requested, but she relaxed, seeing that he was doing nothing else other than that. When he was finished, she stared up at him, the dim light reflecting off of the eye that was not patched up.  For him to call her by her name like that was embarrassing, but not because she hated it.

Bringing a hand up, she reached out for the place above his eyepatch, moving the hair out of the way and brushing it upwards so she can see it clearer.
"That’s good. How long do you want to stay for…Are you tired?"
His blue orbs reflected a sense of warmth and compassion for his princess. As soon as her visage softened, he knew that she was no longer nervous. The male didn’t want her to feel nervous. Not so late in the evening, at the very least. It would please him if she could rest without any worries. With the princess settling into her bedding, he, too, relaxed into the plush cushioning of the chair he sat on.
When he first saw her dainty fingers approaching his face, he visibly shuddered. Shoulder muscles spasmed with the traveling chill up his back. He wasn’t accustomed to anyone touching that area, though it wasn’t sensitive enough to worry over any possible pain being inflicted.
His apprehension was lessened, however, when she simply swept some stray strands of hair out of his face. He cupped her hand in his and held its back to his lips, pecking it.
“I’ll stay with you until you fall asleep. ...I don’t rest at this time yet, so you needn’t worry.”

The soft crunch of the sandwiches’ contents spurred immediate pleasure to his taste buds. A simple and refreshing balance perfect to fill the appetite. Putting the food back on its plate and wiping his fingers of crumbs with a nearby napkin, Takanemaru thought for a moment on her question.
It was the type of inquiry that could easily place a person in a stupor--a loss for words.
Even he could not come up with something for it at the drop of a dime.
“I suppose,” he lingered at the last syllable, “Robert Frost’s works peek my interests on occasion.”

She’s surprised he even accepts her request in the first place! To be honest, she expected him to kindly decline. Isn’t he the kind of man who would much rather focus on responsibilities instead?  Nonetheless, she doesn’t have time to focus on that now! He said yes, so there’s no backing out now!
Tumblr media
She pulled him along by his hand into the room, closing the door behind them when they’d entered. Her room was common for a girl of her age and position, with elegant drapings, fine furniture, and a desk that was stacked with books and littered with drawings. It was like evidence that she’d been busy lately.
She released his hand once she reached her bed, the covers undone from when she’d escaped earlier to see him. Crawling into the mattress, she pulled the thick, warm blankets over herself and stared at him expectantly, pointing to a chair nearby.
"C-Come on, sit!"
As soon as the two of them were within the room, Takanemaru allowed the princess to lead him to her desired destination. He had been in the confines of her abode before, but never this late. The room shone a different way when lit by the few lamps that were splayed along the walls. Her varying trinkets and drawings appeared more antiquated and mature in tone. Even the busy mess on her desk had a sense of growing up to it.
But she still had an endearing childish nature about her, hidden beneath the stuffiness of studies and duties to undertake to be the next queen.
When finally dragged to her bedside, Takanemaru waited until she pointed out the chair. It appeared she was impatient, too.
Grabbing the chair and bringing it to her side, he sat on it and bent over to tuck the sheets closer to her.
“Like this… Hadeal-sama?”

He turned sharply at the voice intruding the quiet library. The sound was low against all the obstacles before it, but he could make it out enough to tell who it was. There were few in the estate with the unique tone she had. It was a pleasant one.
Abandoning his search for a good read, he paced around the corner of the bulky shelves and to the front of the spacious room.
There he spotted Princess Mia staring into the expanse.
“Hello, Hime-sama.”
He offered a curt bow and greeting, stiff and respective as the norm.
“Are you looking for something?”
His question was inquisitive, though nothing beyond that. Even as her instructor, he sometimes desired tranquility to himself.

He eyed the sweet red fruit briefly. It was an eye-catching color, no more, no less. A distraction to the eye, one might consider it. But then he focused his attention to the princess’s face, listening in for the words she would utter. He didn’t want to disrespect her by appearing distracted in any way. He leaned his wrists against the edge of the table, fingers curled leisurely.
“Poems?”
There was a sign of warmth in his eyes. He enjoyed a good read, though he didn’t always read those kind, he enjoyed them fairly.
“Yes… They’re a fine piece of literature. Simple, yet able to convey the deepest meanings.”
He nodded his head and took to picking up his sandwich. It wouldn’t do well for his hunger if he forgot about it.

In the Library, At Peace
flowercutter has requested a starter
Traversing through the quietest  room of the estate was Takanemaru, searching for a piece of literature to draw his interests. For the time being, he was graced with a chance to diverge from the usual stack of paperwork on his desk or taking care of the princess’s studies. It was an opportunity growing scarce in his day-to-day life. A hobby that was soon fleeting away before he was aware.
He would never blame the duties he’d been presented with by the Queen; however, they were important tasks that could only serve to preserve and improve the possibilities of a strong rule for the hier.
Pulling various tombs from their perch on the shelves they sat, the drone noted foot steps approaching his person.

She was happy, she gets to walk with him all alone in the hallways! During the days she was always occupied with work from his lessons, or any other duties she had as the princess. However—it was strange that her heart fluttered when he touched her hand. Looking down at her bare feet instead, she focused on the sound of her light footsteps, and the ones that his boots made.
Before long, he had led her to the front of her room, and stood in place there. Glancing from him, the door handle, and finally the floor, she released her hold on his arm and instead held his hand tenderly.
Tumblr media
"U-Um. D-Do you think you could….tuck me in first…."
Her voice quieted towards the end of her request, trailing off into a slight mumble.
During their walk together through the darkened halls, the blue-haired drone had picked up some odd behaviors from the princess at his side. At first he glimpsed it as childish excitement over being treated with chivalry, but she seemed distracted. He’d chosen to let the phenomenon settle for the time being as it was already rather late.
Again, she acted out strangely when preparing to head into her room, hesitating and looking as if she’d had an inner conflict. He felt worry surface for a moment.
Until she uttered her request.
His features changed visibly, visibly eye widening at the desire and mouth hanging slightly agape, the hand in her’s stiffened, not prepared for that type of question.
But he quickly composed himself,
“...Of course, Hime-sama.”
With a soft smile, he granted her wish, following close after her into her room.

“I see, I’ll procure some then, Hime-sama,” he nodded in affirmation and strolled past the table and into the kitchen adjoining the dining room. It didn’t take long for him to find a chef that gave him what the princess wanted and a sandwich for himself to partake in.
Strolling back to the dining table with a tray of food and water in hand, Takanemaru took a seat parallel of where she was sitting and placed her strawberries and water at her side. Bringing his plate in front of him, he inquired, “Is there anything particular you’re reading today?”

Inquiries and Care
incalescent-heart requested a starter
As of late, the princess’s condition concerned the steadfast instructor. Her perseverance in her lessons wasn’t as strong as before. She seemed to grow weary easier and didn’t show as much optimism as before. Was there some foreign source that was bothering her?
He didn’t know the answer to that question.
He was willing to try to figure it out, however.
With subtle steps against the tiled floor of the main hallway, Takanemaru approached the place he was most likely to find the princess.
It wasn’t a hard place to find; she went there quite regularly.
Calling out to her, he said, “Hime-sama, I’d like to discuss something with you.”

Her hands were folded behind her back the whole time while she waited for him to lock the door. When he came back to her side, she began to walk, but paused when he offered her his arm.  Immediately, her eyes sparkled and she bound over to his side, as if she were a puppy who was just offered a treat. Clinging onto his arm, she looked up at him eagerly.
"Yes! You’re the best, Takanemaru-san~"
Tumblr media
Rubbing her cheek against his own sleeve, she took a few steps forward, tugging him alongside her. Maybe, when they get to her room, he can tuck her in too?!
The drone let an amused chuckle reverberate from his throat. The sound was gravelly and deep just as his voice was, but with more of a light-hearted air than his usual gruffness. The princess’s sudden brightening in spirits over his small action was too great not to acknowledge. With his free hand, he covered the hand hanging onto his arm with care.
“...So long as it pleases you, Hime-sama.”
Allowing her to cling close to him and tug him around, he fell into step with her; making sure not to walk too fast or slow.
Soon, they approached the foot leading to her sleeping chambers. Slowing to a halt, Takanemaru paused outside the door.

Sprawled on the table was an array of books, he noted; all sorts of genres that weren’t study material. It was good to see that she wasn’t overwhelming herself with her studies. She was diligent enough to be deserving of a break every once in a while. This gave thought to allowing her some more time off. Perhaps even a visit to somewhere she liked. But those thoughts were quickly buried for another time as he heard her speak.
“Yes, I’m well, Hime-sama.”
He bowed to her before continuing.
“I was about to get something to eat, would you like anything while you’re reading?”

Shifting his position in the finely-cushioned upholstery, the hazy-eyed drone slung his arm over the back. With a dull expression in his pressed features, he responded, “Good afternoon to you as well, Hime-sama.”
It wasn’t an uncommon sight to see the beloved princess of the estate pop up in random places during the day. It seemed she had a sort of traveler’s spirit, always wandering the halls and various rooms.
“I’m just a bit tired. Thank you for your concerns,” trying to seem more lively and keep her from worrying, Takanemaru gave a subtle smile.
A Drone's Fatigue
Sometimes she liked to wander—it was nice sometimes…to just go about mindlessly…especially when her thoughts were far too heavy. As she crossed the hall, Min caught notice of the man.
Tumblr media
"A-ah, Good afternoon!" She pipes up, feeling obliged to say something as they crossed paths. Looking over his features, he didn’t seem in the best spirits…"Is everything alright?" She questions.

Sighing at her sudden change in body language, he wondered whether she really understood his words. She would have to fix her way of viewing situations if she was going to continue to deflate at the drop of unfavorable words. Her negativity brought that on to start with. Over assumption wasn’t a good trait for a queen.
“...I’ll most likely go back to working with diplomats and taking care of the relationships between other colonies.”
Where he went truly depended on what the current Queen desired; however, the chance of him going back to the job he’d been assigned with before this was highly likely.
But right now his task was to make sure the princess had the best teaching in the realm.
Tutoring and Gratitude
Her grin faltered and snapped back into a straight line, fixing her slouch and was now sitting rigid. Too casual, then? Definitely. From there on in, she’d tread lightly with him. He was quite intimidating when he wanted to be, hm?
Tumblr media
"What are you going to do when the task is completed?" The young woman asked carefully. She didn’t exactly imagine him sitting around soaking up sun. Granted, everyone had a job in the colony. and when that job was done there was another lined up. A life of constant work and development for the good of the realm; she understood the necessity, but her teacher was constantly working hard. It would be nice to see him take a load off.

The aromatic tea helped to soothe his nerves. The bath earlier helped the drone, however, having something hot in his system made him feel much better. Taking another slow sip of the steaming beverage before placing it back down into it’s place, Takanemaru spared his gaze her way. She almost appeared as though she’d recoiled after taking in his words. He hadn’t meant for his words to give her melancholy.
“There’s nothing wrong with being curious, Hime-sama. I’m more than honored to be graced with your worry.”
As if to show that he truly meant what he said, he smiled and offered her one of the sweet snacks that accompanied the tea on the tray. “You like sweet things with your tea, don’t you?”
Rainy Spirits, Distant Sighs
"Ah, I see…" She mused quietly, a pang of guilt stabbed her chest for pressing him on matters that were utterly inconsequential to her. It wasn’t like she had any right to pry like a nosy child, it was actually quite rude if one were perfectly honest. "I’m sorry for pressing you for answers, it seemed like my curiosity got the better of me."
A nervous chuckle echoed throughout the room, as she attempted to ease the mood to the best of her abilities, which wasn’t much in the first place. Still, he seemed a bit frustrated, no doubt because she was pestering him to no end, and that only encouraged her to try harder even if she lacked decent conversational skills. “Umm, well, I’m glad at least I can enjoy your company, I mean you’ve been so busy lately, surely it must be tiring. Maybe you could take a break for a while….if that’s possible.”
