Kate had not planned on venturing out into the gardens -- she very much wanted to keep her dress intact and possibly without blood staining it. Yet she had heard of people talking about the flowers in bloom as well as the hedge maze. Her hope was that she could move quietly over the grass and meander through the flora.

She'd been unaware of someone stalking her, her attention on something that had looked like a lily. The little doe had leaned forward to see if it smelled like one when she thought she had felt a chill go down her spine, but she had chalked it up to someone just glancing her way. After all, there were others in the gardens. It clearly couldn't be someone after just her.

Then the roar shattered the peace in the garden, and instinct had her ready to bolt. Any second there would be a knife and --

Arms curled around her midsection instead, and the anxiety died at a familiar voice. Thanks to the mask, it was hard to look over her shoulder to sneak a peek at the other woman.
