An ATGB Act 4 tribute piece 😩✊🏼

Been aching to make this illust since my braving times of reading the agonizing yet highly satisfying chapters of ATGB that was the 4th arc --specifically the Labyrinth chapters. This piece was, of course, influenced by a Sleep Token song hahah. Its called "The Offering"- which I discovered the same time I started reading the Act 4 chapters. Soooo of course it became my companion song throughout the feels 😩. That one song I had on loop because what were the odds that it kind of complimented the dreaded-ness/ action-packed/ psychological horror vibes of the chapters but also exuded the yearnings of the focused characters in that arc. The willingness to offer oneself just to get what they want. If there's ONE SONG I could imagine, or suggest, as the opening theme for "season 4", it would be The Offering. Lol.

Anyway

The aforementioned lyric (caption) initially made me recall how Brick desperately held Blossom in Act 3 (if you know it.. yeah you know it 🥲). Then in the subsequent Labyrinth chapters, Blossom was one of the lingering driving forces amidst the haunting confusion where Brick was trapped in. A faint light but consistent, preserving. Behind fears, behind guilt, behind all the.. bothersome things that tried to break him, she was there and Brick looked forward to seeing her. When he whispered "...More than anything", I thought it was the first time he sounded so sure. It spoke volumes of how much he repressed a lot of things, and in that single line-- he let go.

Now I just wanted to see that on paper: that uninhibited embrace he and Blossom longed for.

Further notes: I have two other versions of this illustration but I couldn't choose from them. I asked my friends for their pick and I went for the one where they commented "this seems more intimate" :') sooo ta da!

Lastly: If anyone reads this and wishes to listen to the song, here it is. I suggest using headphones or bass earphones or whatever to savor the glorious drums :D

Musing out loud again, and out of the blue:

For those who don't know, "mudlarking" is an activity or hobby where one searches the mud near rivers to try to find valuable or historical items.

I initially thought this could be one of Brick's earliest hobbies (a stepping stone on getting their first hard-earned cash) but I wondered if Butch was more likely to enjoy himself getting dirty in the mud. 😆 Boomer could be doing this as well if I wanted to imagine him as the dude who'd like to hoard special looking objects no matter how useless they look. But then I also don't see any harm if it's all three Boys who took interest in this hobby but the next question is-- would they even bother having themselves registered to do legal mudlarking? Maybe yes for older Brick but really? Really?

Buttercup is there because, flashback: she tried knocking out criminals, took their fallen teeth and traded them to the unnamed tooth fairy for gold coins. Of course she wouldn't mind getting dirty especially if there's a chance for museums to pay her for whatever she'd find of historical importance. If I'd go with Butch, would this be one of their shared hobbies? Hmm. Hmmmmm.

Bubbles and Blossom are there only because I'd like to explore what kind of people they'd be if this happened to be one of their hobbies lollll.
