i think despite the terrible decisions he made in his life, child severus snape would be in awe of, and be really pleased with how his adult self turned out. this was a kid who stumbled over his words, got easily flustered and was described as awkward and twitchy. severus snape as an adult is intimidating, impressive, glides about the castle in his billowing robes, and strikes fear into the hearts of anyone who tries to cross him. he's also an extremely talented wizard in his own right. contrary to popular belief, i also don't think he seemed too much bothered about what people think of him - a feature most people want or respect. for all the fandom can talk on how much his life must have sucked, it appears, at least to me, that he wasn't as downtrodden as everyone thinks. there's this persistent resoluteness and fearlessness to him. i think about his conversation with dumbledore after the yule ball often. he doesn't say much, but the way he speaks so matter-of-factly about karkaroff and the inevitable return of voldemort. it clearly never occured to him to even hesitate. if anyone wants to know what kind of man he was, just look at that scene.
there are countless characters in harry potter that would never, could never do what severus snape did, let alone unflinchingly. it's very admirable, and you wonder why harry named his child after him.

You know, while I love the idea of "Snape has used his patronus for check if Sirius was still in his house at the end of HP5 and it's why Sirius (FINALLY) believed him (to be on their side) at the end" (because patronus's form show a lot about the person who calls it), I also wonder if it was enough for truly convince Sirius. But the idea of Sirius seeing the same patronus than Lily's one, with Snape's voice saying something like "Black you better to be STILL in your house" is hilarious.
I especially wonder Sirius' attitude to Snape after seeing the Doe. Would he bring back old pains and taunt Snape on his female Patronus that proves his love for Lily, who rejected Severus and went on marrying James? Somehow I don't think so. We never see Sirius taunting Snape about Lily in his adulthood (or at least, not while Harry is present), so perhaps it would be a bit OOC for Sirius to start doing so with ill intents.
I can believe he can do a lot of bad, but canon Sirius already proved he wasn't so low as to accuse Snape, for instance, of having ever worked for Voldemort, given there's no proof, and that Dumbledore hired Snape as a professor at Hogwarts. He even argues the contrary, that it doesn't make sense for Snape to be a Death Eater. (GoF)
And then the Doe arrives, confirming once and for all that Snape is not Voldemort's servant, no more than Lily herself.
It is already huge that Snape checked on Sirius (his enemy) while sending the Order to save his godson and the rest of the children at the Ministry (indeed, Snape is very useful for the Order, and Sirius couldn't bear it). If not for Snape, Sirius wouldn't have been able to save his godson, and Harry would probably be dead.
Not only that, but the Doe confirms Snape's true loyalties, explaining the motive that drives him to work against Voldemort. For Lily (at least, originally). And to do so, Severus allowed Sirius to see his deepest secret, displaying what made him at once vulnerable and immensely strong (such a brave, selfless act!).
Sirius doesn't have much reason to despise Snape anymore. Well, he didn't need any reason before (other than an "old prejudice" from himself), but now I think it would go against his own principles. Hurting Snape would feel now so low and despisable, given Severus is honourable and admirable with his Doe. Is he really going to call "Snivellus" the one chosen by the Silver Doe, by Lily herself? A further insult to Lily, to the magnificence of such love and magic, all because a dog has issues with Slytherins with somewhat greasy hair (who's he to talk, Sirius now has filthy hair himself).
Did Sirius already respect Snape, even a little bit, even grudgingly, for spying against Voldemort? Perhaps. Would he abandon his antagonistic behavior upon finally understanding? I think so. For one, because if not for Snape, Harry & co would be captured by Voldemort and killed; Sirius can bond with Severus over the protection of Harry. Second, because all the work Snape does as a spy is motivated by love for his best friend, and Sirius can definitely connect with that.
It's a bit sad that all those who saw the Doe had to die shortly after. Only one survived/was reborn, and that's Harry.
On the other hand, yeah, imagine Sirius getting shocked to see a Doe Patronus, and then he topples over his chair because that's Snape's voice and all his sass coming out of the Doe.
It's such a shame Sirius died soon after, or else we could perhaps see the beginning of true changement on his part, putting in question his attitude towards Snape and perhaps finally coming to admit to himself, "what I did to him was wrong", "I was no better than my family" and "I truly regret it... let's make amends".
I think Sirius would become the "Secret Keeper" and not tell anyone about the Doe if Severus wishes so.
Now I really want to see a drawing of Sirius shocked, amazed and moved at the Doe and what it means about Snape ^^'

So I find the idea of sev with a baby and him being uncomfy with caring for it very funny bc he's not used to caring for himself let alone a little human being that can't even raise it's own head yet HOWEVER the opposite idea being that he is surprisingly good with babies/toddlers/little kids to be equally funny and endearing. Like Sirius would see him one day rock a very fussy Teddy to sleep effortlessly and no one would believe him when he tells the Order bc um it's grumpy patience-less asshat Snape?? From then on Remus and Sirius bug him to babysit Teddy though and it irks Severus to no end (but he has a soft spot for helpless little babies so he agrees anyway. Maybe bc babies are the only ones to look at him with emotions aside from anger, disgust or pity?)
i love this
