It's been almost 6 years, and Aaron has been through a lot since.

If Robert is out of prison, I could buy them deciding not to reunite right away, leaving the door open for a potential pernament return in the future.

If they actually did that, I think that would almost guarantee he was returning.

I just don't see this "limited" thing even getting into any of that. I feel like it will definitely involve some kind of prison scene/s because we know they filmed top secret prison scenes. And maybe the nightmare theory will turn out to be true. I don't really expect Robert to be out of prison for these scenes unless it's in a dream sequence.

I also feel like he needs to serve a purpose or what's the point? But also, they can't open up new story potential with him and Aaron unless he is coming back full time. So I feel like we might see John go visit him in prison or something and maybe Robert calls Aaron to warn him. Something along those lines?? I'm not sure.

I just feel like people really need to manage their expectations with what we might actually get. I don't mind it being leaked because now we'll be able to plan to watch it easier, but I wish the leak had happened like right before it was about to air so there wasn't time for all of this speculation and spiraling.

I agree. I don't think the show will ever put Mack and Aaron together, they know it's a popular partnership and they like the clicks it gives them on articles when they put them in story's together but I definitely don't see it as anything beyond that. Lawrence made it pretty clear in his recent interview it's a friendship thing too. I actually wonder if they might kill Mack off for maximum Aaron trauma and tears as the show always love torturing Aaron. It would be a shame if they did as I do like Mack and Aaron's friendship and it gives Aaron more light hearted scenes in comparison to the dire John stuff.

I mean I feel like they probably missed their opportunity to put Mack and Aaron together a while ago. Not that they couldn't make it work now but it would take more effort.

I really hope they don't have John kill him though. I don't think Aaron needs more of that kind of trauma and this story will be dramatic enough. Try and kill him, sure, but actually succeed, I hope not. I like them being friends, I like Aaron having a friend in the village. Adam left a big gap when he left the show and Aaron works better as a character with a best friend, so I would like Mack to live.

I do really think they need to just let Mack and Charity go though. I just don't think they work together at all anymore. I really forget they're even a couple until they have the odd scene together and lately they've been on very different pages with Mack obsessed with John and Aaron and Charity fretting over Sarah and Kammy. Neither one cares at all about the other's problems. They're just not really written as a couple at the moment. And I kind of want to free them both from that partnership.

I know you said you don't want to speculate so sorry in advance but the thought of it being a dream sequence freaks me out. Do you have any wisdom about why that might be the preferable option?

I did make one post about this already but I'll expand further...

I just personally have a lot of questions about a "limited return" and sort of what point that would serve if Robert's just going to disappear again.

Say we do get Robron scenes out of this, if Ryan's not going to come back for real, then where does that leave Aaron? Does Aaron have to "choose" John over Robert like he chose Ben? If they have Aaron visit Robert in prison for whatever reason, I feel like that's likely going to show us just how much he's not over Robert and then what does that mean for his next relationship after this John saga. I just think if want people to accept Aaron moving on, putting him in a Robron scene just really starts him back at square one.

Plus, I've always been an advocate of Robert's ending. It allowed them to end obsessively in love with each other and it allowed Robert to do the "selfless" thing by letting Aaron go, which showed some character growth in a way. They were torn apart by circumstances, not because they fell out of love for each other. I would hate for whatever this brief appearance turns out to be to mess with that. And I'm not sure how it wouldn't if we get an actual Robron scene.

So Robert appearing in John's nightmares wouldn't mess with canon or Robert's exit, which would be a bonus. Plus, Nightmare Robert can do whatever he wants, be wherever he wants. If he's haunting John, he can be sassy and smug as hell, which could be a lot of fun. We can also have Robron moments in the nightmare if John is dreaming about Aaron choosing Robert over him. I just think there's a lot they could play with that wouldn't mess up the current state of things and that idea appeals to me if there's no permanent return in the near future.

I mean, that doesn't mean they'll do any of that or that they'll have as much fun with the nightmare concept as I would want them to. Plus there's Aiden and Nate stuff that can and probably will be part of John's nightmares so I don't know if it will even be a thing let alone as entertaining as I would want it to be.

I just think it's a interesting idea to play with and I like that it wouldn't ruin the ending that we got if there's not permanent return.

So I am excited about Robron but actually I'm still on the Mackron train right now.

I just think that if Robert really is only back for a short stint, it will be to tie up loose ends. That's my pessimist side coming out.

But that article about big things coming up for Mack and Aaron? Life-changing things? That's got me optimistic.

I’m getting carried away and already shipping Robert, Aaron, and Mackenzie without even knowing if they have any scenes together, let alone if they get on or have any romantic chemistry… Anyway, would their ship name be Robronzie or Macrobron or something else?

I'll be honest that I personally don't see much daylight between the two of them.

I'm an apologist for both and I think that's reasonable.

I totally get why Robert gets more forgiveness than John though: he's charismatic. John is not. No offense to Oliver but he just hasn't won the audience. He's not "a star".

Robert did try to kill Chas with a rock, hired a hitman to kill her. Almost killed Paddy trying to scare him off. Held Aaron hostage and was willing to shoot him. Threatened Leo's life.

Rewatching 2015 made me realise how villainous Robert is during that year.

So I know Robert's return is exciting and will probably draw a lot of viewers back, but can I just put out an ask to avoid hating on the show if people haven't really been watching it the last couple of months/years? Maybe have a watch of the last few weeks/months before deciding it sucks?

The show has had ups and downs, I'm not denying that.

But I for one am actually enjoying the show right now and think it is the strongest of the big 3 (sorry EE). I have been drifting in and out of each of them for a while but ED is still the one I stick with long-term because it's actually always interesting.

I'm 100% not saying that you have to agree. I just encourage people to watch the show before making up their minds if they've been away for a while.

what did he do in 2015 that was the same as john is doing now? Katie's death? That was an accident, john is doing it all on purpose.

I wonder what this short stint looks like? People saying it could just be a few episodes where people visit him in prison.

I know it's plot convenience because it all has to come out during the wedding, but it's still noticeable.
