the fact she didn’t flinch when her eyes glowed an unnatural hue of blue said a lot about allison. about her life, about past, about her experiences. it didn’t say she was reckless or fearless; an icy fog settled in the pit of her stomach. blue meant killer. blue meant murderer. blue did not mean self-defense. allison swallowed, searching for some response. should she run? should she stand her grand? it didn’t actually seem like the werewolf meant to hurt her. she said i’m worried and she sounded worried. still… she was an argent. hunting was her blood, her upbringing, her instincts. “i—who did you kill?” she asked. “i’m not trusting you until i know.” she shook her head. “i can’t. i’m sorry, i can’t.”
talia wasn’t exactly eager to explain to this stranger who she had killed, but clearly that meant that whoever this was was at least aware of the supernatural. it was always pretty hit or miss when it came to exposing your abilities like that. but talia just had a gut feeling that something more was going on here. she let out a soft sigh, hesitating on whether or not she should even bother. but something told her it’d be worth it to at least try to get through to this girl. “a jogger, about two years ago. my parents didn’t exactly do a great job and i had to teach myself a lot of what i know about control. which by the way, is loads better now than it was then. i promise.”

“Seems as though this town has finally done something right. The poor people and their families, not to mention the expenses of all the damage that has been caused to this place.” She makes a face and frowns. “So, like when you leave a pet or child behind? Always worrying about whether or not you should just come back and the regret of leaving? If you don’t mind me asking, what did you go out to do? Maybe once this place is calm enough, I’ll leave and go on a new kind of journey.” Skye muses with a hopeful look at thinking of leaving this hellhole. Not wanting to repeat her words, she nods in understanding, putting a note to herself to start venting. “No, it’s alright, it was the day before my birthday and my parents had decided to surprise me by taking us to go on a trip with my grandparents, but what they hadn’t informed me was that I would be the only one going. I continuously fought them and admittedly, some harsh words were spoken because I just wanted to spend time with them, but by the time I had been at my grandparent’s house for a good hour, my house was on the news and I broke down..felt like I lost everything because they had taught me and cared about me so much.” Skylar explains as she quickly clears her throat to avoid it cracking again, none of it was technically a lie, in a twisted way, they did care about her.
“i mean i did leave a dog behind actually, but i had lydia watch him.. i just mean like, worrying about whether or not there’s gonna be a catastrophic event that will kill several hundred people and stuff like that. it’s always gonna be on my mind, no matter how long things stay calm here. but it was nice to get away. you should try it if you can.” talia really did enjoy her time out in washington, even if she was a little worried the entire time. she still had a great time and it was a nice escape. her eyebrows slowly furrowed at skylar’s story as she frowned and shook her head. “i.. that’s awful, skylar. i’m really sorry. i remember hearing about it at school but i never really knew too many details. it’s not like i was gonna ever ask you back then.” the two still weren’t super close, but enough time had passed that talia felt more comfortable with at least asking now.

“i swear he never stops working.” lydia shook her head and couldn’t help but laugh lightly. “he probably feels bad for being gone so long. i guarantee that means he’ll be working overtime to make up for that.” jake was one of the hardest working people lydia had ever met. not to mention the nicest. he could give scott mccall a run for his money, which was definitely saying something. alas, lydia was happy that both he and talia got to take a little break. they deserve it. “oh, me and frankie had a great time together.” lydia grinned. getting to spend time checking in on frankie had lydia missing having an animal of her own, actually. it had been awhile since prada passed and lydia enjoyed taking care of frankie more than she thought she would. “that’s really great, tal.” lydia smiled softly. “i’m glad you were able to do this. it was the perfect timing.” things were quiet in beacon hills, so talia and jake didn’t have to stress about what was going on back home. usually none of them were able to get away without feeling some sort of guilt.
“right? i think us being gone for the winter break was the longest he’s ever really taken off like that. i think he definitely needed it, though. we both did.” talia smiled faintly. she really did need the break to find herself for a little bit, and she was super grateful that things in town decided to calm down for at least a little bit so that she and jake were able to leave beacon hills without everything imploding. it honestly still didn’t feel real. “well i’m glad. this little man gets lonely with no one around.” she spoke in a cute tone as she squished frankie’s face together and rubbed his head a bit. she knew how sad it was when prada passed away so she was kind of worried that taking care of frankie might be a big ask of lydia, but it seemed like the banshee enjoyed it a lot. “it really was. i’m still convinced that any day something’s gonna pop off all over again. i still don’t really believe that things were totally quiet. i can’t even name the last time that happened.”

“In this town? I doubt I can even be surprised anymore,” he told her, honestly. It was true, though. Nothing could shock him - it might be annoying or frustrating but not shocking. Kole nodded his head when she told him where she had been with Jake. It made sense. He wondered if that was something he would ever get to do with his own sister. “Yeah. Things were pretty quiet here. Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary…at least more than normal for Beacon Hills. I worked and that’s about it.”
“that’s actually a really fair point. but i promise i’m not some kind of spirit or ghost or anything like that. i’m just me.” talia laughed softly as she gave him a playful shrug. considering the amount of people in town who had died and come back, it wasn’t completely off the table for talia to be a ghost. “i’m sure there’ll never be a full day without a random werewolf attack or anything like that, but nothing major happened at all? i was sure that we’d get back to everything in flames.”

Her expression remains the same as she listens to Talia’s explanation of why a group therapy session wouldn’t be good, only nodding her head in agreement at the end of it. “Unfortunately, you’re correct, it seems as though they only strike when people are all grouped together.” Whilst it may be a good idea, it was used too often, and keeping things secret just made things that much more fun. “I think we’ve miraculously now been a calm town for a longer amount of time than…for as long as I can remember and I’m just happy that people are realizing they can relax more now, certainly takes off some of that stress.” Skylar muses as she follows her words and sighs softly, releasing tension in her shoulders. “Again, you’re admittedly not wrong, I think I’ve been bottling up these emotions for too long because now it’s rushing back and that’s not a fun feeling. Part of me wonders if they knew that something was going to happen, it just..makes me wonder why I was sent away that day instead of being with them..because then..maybe, I wouldn’t feel so guilty now.”
“i think it’s kind of why the town has stopped hosting large events like that. almost every time it always ends with several people dying. or getting severely injured. or a building being destroyed.” talia could go on, but she felt like skylar got the point. it really sucked that beacon hills had to be on high alert all the time, but it was just their reality. “yeah, even if it didn’t feel super relaxing while i was gone, i still had fun. i just spent a lot of my time worrying about what was going on here, or if i’d have to rush home at some point.” but it seemed to actually be quiet for once, which was a great sign. “you’re definitely not alone on that. i think that’s how most people here cope with everything. but it really does wonders to let that sort of stuff out.” she paused for a moment as her eyebrows furrowed at skylar’s next words. “what happened again? if you don’t mind me asking..”
@talblack
“i think a joint therapy session would probably be a great idea. but knowing beacon hills, some goon would take it upon themselves to try and kill all of us while we gathered in one spot. so maybe not.” talia shrugged, frowning at the mere thought of her pessimistic comment. she still had a bad feeling that something was off in beacon hills now that she was back, but she tried to remind herself that she was acting paranoid. the town had been fairly quiet for months now. maybe everything really had calmed down. “it’s fine though, seriously. sometimes stuff like that just kind of comes out. anyone who lives here kind of has a free pass to get emotional every once in awhile. i remember hearing about what happened with your parents and stuff. i’m uh-... i’m sorry. there’s not really much else to say, i guess. that’s just awful.” talia didn’t know the full story, but she knew the vague details.

lydisms:
of course lydia was still getting used to being comfortable with physical touch. it took a lot of working on herself, and even now she was still not fully okay with that. but the banshee was better than she had been in the past, and with someone like talia who she trusted wholeheartedly, it was fine as well. she didn’t flinch when talia hugged her and instead wrapped her arms back around the girl, which was a big step for lydia. “feels like it’s been ten years.” lydia replied back, rolling her eyes dramatically in the process. she shrugged her shoulders as she walked back to sit where she originally was. it was just really nice to reunite with talia, and lydia would have waited hours if she had to. “not too long, honestly. wasn’t a big deal. besides, your bed is comfortable.” lydia joked lightly. “i want to hear all about it.”
once talia realized that lydia didn’t seem to be too anti-hug, she embraced it for a moment longer before pulling away and laughing at how dramatic her friend was being. she opened the front door for the two of them and slowly pushed the door open. “jake had to work tonight so he won’t be home until later; he closes.” she explained as she took a deep breath and set her bag down in the living room. she probably should’ve been unpacking, but she didn’t really have the energy for it at the moment. she was too excited to finally see lydia again as she laughed at the thought of the strawberry blonde sleeping in talia’s bed. “i’m just glad that frankie had someone to come watch him,” she insisted as her white bulldog ran over to her at the sound of her voice and jumped onto her leg excitedly. “even if you used it as more of a stay away from home.” the two lived down the hall together, so that was definitely heavy sarcasm as she fell down onto the couch and sighed softly. “most of it was just a lot of hiking. i feel closer to jake now than ever, though. it was nice to be able to spend so much time with him. it kinda felt like we were kids again.”

One shoulder raised as he attempted to shrug off her comment about how he looked. Kole knew he could be a bit more telling of his feelings but did he look that shocked? “Can I be sure you aren’t a ghost?” he asked, a wolfish grin appeared on his face after a moment. He took his keys and pocketed them. “How have you been? Did you go find yourself? I feel like that’s what guys and girls our age do when they go off somewhere for a while…at least that’s what I’ve noticed in every movie I’ve binged watched on my first ever smart phone.” Kole hadn’t watched much of anything when he was a foster kid so now that he could afford a smart phone, he was on youtube and other streaming services trying to catch up what he missed out on.
talia grinned at kole’s comment as she tilted her head and playfully shrugged at him. “would you even be surprised if i was?” she teased with a slight chuckle. at this point, it was very possible for ghosts to be added to their list of worries. in fact, she was pretty sure they did exist considering there were necromancers in town that could communicate with ghosts. “i guess you could call it that, yeah. me and my brother took a trip up to washington to just kind of.. chill, for a bit. things have been quiet here for long enough that we felt like it’d be fine. it was fine, right? nothing super crazy happened?”

She sniffles and forces in a deep breath to try and calm herself down from the sudden emotions that she was feeling, though in reality, every part of her wanted to drop the sad expression, but Sky hid it well enough. “I still feel like a proper apology should be said though, I’m not usually like this with people I don’t really know, but it’s certainly a hell of an ice breaker, right?” She questions with her best genuine laugh. “Sometimes I think that this town could just have a nice therapy session together considering the amount of people that we’ve all lost.”

try as she might, it seemed like allison wasn’t fooling this stranger. maybe she couldn’t. maybe she knew. she hadn’t pushed the point of knowing allison, but maybe she did. or maybe she could hear her heartrate, smell her anxiety. did she smell of decay and death? it was a valid question in this supernatural beacon they called a town. “look–” she paused, sucking in a deep breath as she searched for the words. “i don’t know you. even if i’m not okay, i’m not going to put that on a stranger.” it was the truth, at least.
“and that’s fair, i guess-” talia shrugged with a pause as she examined the other woman in front of her and hesitated before continuing. “but that doesn’t mean i’m gonna drop it if i think someone might be in trouble or something. and trust me, worse things have been put on me. i think i can handle it.” she insisted, pausing again as she glanced around and then made her eyes glow a bright blue for a brief moment to let the brunette know that she was a wolf, because she had a sneaking suspicion that it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. in a blink of talia’s eyes the glow faded as she tried to give a sympathetic half-smile. “you smell off, and i’m worried.”

allison could feel her heart sinking as a confused and disgusted expression took shape on the stranger’s face. “i– i don’t think so,” she said, even it felt like a lie in her mouth. a lie that tasted like dirt and flower blossoms. no, this person was a stranger to her, but allison probably wasn’t to them. would the local news have run the story with one of her old school pictures? what was the title of the story in the local paper? what excuse had her friends, her father, and the sheriff come up? high school senior dies in mugging gone wrong? no one had told her at the sheriff’s station. but though she knew her heartrate had sped up as all those thoughts crashed down on her, she refused to show them on her face. “sorry, i don’t recognize you at all.”
talia could tell immediately that something was up , even if it weren’t for the other woman’s jumpy heartbeat . she continued to stare at the brunette for a moment as she tilted her head and raised an eyebrow . it was giving talia a sinking feeling herself , and she didn’t really feel right just walking away and leaving it at that . “ well are you okay ? no offense but you kind of seem a little freaked out . ” she wanted to point out the scent , but she knew she’d sound crazy to most humans by bringing that up so she held off for now .

“Oh, it was a bore me to sleep kind of read and listen to when I was a kid, but it meant a lot to my parents for them to keep it around for so long.” She muses with a shrug. “My parents wanted me to know about the home that they loved-” Her voice breaks as a wave of fresh tears glisten in her eyes, Skye’s hands reaching up to cover her mouth and nose so she can take in a deep, but shaky breath. “Sorry, I’m not usually so sentimental, I just..really miss them.” She says, though her tears and words were true, she had forgotten how deep that meaning was.
talia could understand that , and she felt kind of bad for making fun of the books now . even if her and skylar weren’t necessarily the best of friends , talia wasn’t a monster . she liked to think she wasn’t , at least . but that didn’t make her good at handling emotional conversations like this . unless she was close with a person , she found it very hard to be able to properly respond to those sort of things . “ no, you don’t have to apologize it’s -- it’s fine, seriously . i get it. i’m sure they really miss you too . ”

Raising an eyebrow at the question, she sighs and fully turns around to Talia. “Now won’t you look at that? You got a guess correct, congrats. Yes, my purpose here is to hand them off to the local library or shelter if they want a good read on the history of this boring town.” She remarks as she pauses for a moment. “Unless you’d like them, I’m feeling nice enough to warn that it can be exhausting to look at.”

she could measure the time since she’d opened her eyes in hours not days. she had called her father, but been unable to get ahold of him. she had tried the mccall’s, but no one was home. so she had tried the sheriff’s station. that had gone marginally better at least, though the officers had looked at helplessly. what do you do with a dead girl walking? file a report, get her a change of clothes – sweatpants and a baggy white shirt traded for a black, dirt-covered funeral dress – and hand her thirty dollars to get herself something to eat while they figured things out. even though her hands had been shaking as they spoke to her in gentle tones, it wasn’t from hunger. or she didn’t feel hungry, at least. just shakey. just cold. just confused. another she didn’t feel, apparently – the money falling out of her pocket. allison startled and turned to face who’d spoken. don’t look spooked, she told herself, though she wryly suspected she looked like a deer in the headlights. her gaze flicked between the woman’s face as the bills in her hand. “uh, yes.” allison offered her a smile that didn’t reach her eyes and reached for the bills. “can’t believe i almost lost that. thanks.”
talia noticed a strange scent almost immediately when she looked up at the other woman and furrowed her eyebrows , trying to get a sense of what exactly she was smelling . she could only describe it as dirt , mixed with mothballs . it wasn’t a pleasant scent , but it was definitely intriguing . usually even if humans had some kind of body odor , their scent wasn’t like this . it was something else , but what it was exactly was a complete mystery to talia . she handed the bills back to the brunette and nodded slightly , tilting her head as she tried not to make a visible face of disgust at the stench . but it was evident on her face as she fought the urge to cover her nose . “ do i know you ? sorry , i don’t mean to be all blunt but you look kinda familiar . ”
