you lost yourself on a cold winter night. your knees told stories of forgotten battles, countless streams of get up get up get up don’t give in don’t let them win do not fall just keep going no matter what - stories of hopeless dreams and shattered expectations your jagged nails scraped your face raw like the daggers that were edged into your chest but you were iron. iron was never supposed to feel pain your mind was a battlefield, your thoughts gunshots fired from friendly positions was this what you had been fighting for? you were an organism at war with itself. defeated. doomed. once upon a time, you longed to be a hero oh but love, how heroes fall.

talktorickgrimes:
Rick took a small step back when Daryl’s fist collided with the wall, understanding his frustration but feeling HELPLESS to do much about it then. His own mind was a mess of confusion and frustration, how’s he supposed to calm Daryl down? However he tried to keep his cool, his own feelings start to bubble up in the form of anger. He wasn’t looking for a fight – not with this man who was easily one of his closest companions – but it was harder to keep calm when both of their emotions were running so high…and when the situation was just so COMPLEX. “That’s NOT how I’m treatin’ you, m’just tryin’ to fuckin’ talk to ya, alright?” He’s not yelling but his voice is rough and slightly raised. “It just – it took me by surprise is all. I wasn’t pushin’ YOU away. I just didn’t know how else t’react –” there’s a small pause and his body relaxed before he continued in a softer tone, “– ‘specially when I realized I…I liked it.”

Part of him -- the rational, adult part, knew that Rick wasn’t doing anything to purposefully hurt him. He could feel his own confusion, feel his own unknown feelings as to how to tackle this situation. But the other part wanted affirmation, craved love and positive affection and felt that was he was getting from this man whom was beyond a brother to him was the opposite. His muscles tensed during the pause and, in their tautness, he was ready to turn around and leave when Rick’s next words froze him.
“Liked it?” he repeated, his voice thick with surpressed emotion and surprise. He felt his heart leap against his rib cage, his stomach tighten, and he wasn’t sure what to make of everything. “Yer not playin’ me for a fool, are ya, Rick?” He knew his friend could never be that CRUEL to him, but he didn’t want to allow that ever cruel hope into his life and allow hurt to happen to him. He took a step closer. “It’s not wrong if we did.”

He nodded his head, SMILE widening across his lips as he·thought of his friend,·“One a’those,” he affirmed, laughing·softly as she suggested getting·‘dirt’ from him instead –·he had to wonder why she’d be so interested so quickly·into their meeting, but he’s not complaining. Rick gave her·a look, eyebrows raising,·“Y’know I BELIEVE that.” He liked hearing what she had to say, how invested she·seemed to be in bikes and riding in general – it made him·want to know MORE. Rick’s a little unprepared for her·question, caught up in focusing on Savannah and what·she had to say. He looked up at her, shrugging his·shoulders as he slipped his hands into his pockets. He’s·not sure if it’s too early to mention his kids since that·would undoubtedly open up MORE questions.·“Well,·I know it’s not too excitin’ but I like spendin’ time at home.·Since work keeps me so busy, it’s kinda nice t’spend time·there – maybe work on fixin’ odds n’ends.” He raised a hand to rub the back of his neck,·“And I mean, I’ve got·kids actually,” he added a little anxiously but figured it’d·have to come out eventually,· “– so I like spendin’ time·with them.”

Talking to Rick seemed easy and natural -- she was never really one for being overly verbose or chatting to new people, making friends. Somehow, Rick made that all easy. Savannah never thought herself as a ‘people person’ -- she much preferred her own company or being with her bikes. She found that it was quite nice to talk to Rick, though -- hearing about his job, his friend.
“Home is nice though,” she said, smiling, “People can be an awful lot o’ work. An’ untrustworthy.” She pressed her lips together, not wanting to go down the path as to why she didn’t particularly have a lot of fondness for people in general. She couldn’t help a slight arch of her eyebrow at Rick’s confession, her lips forming an ‘o’. It shouldn’t be a surprise that a man his age had children, a wife. She didn’t know why she had assumed that he was single with no attachment. “Well, o’ course you want to spend time with your children an’ wife. It’s always nice t’ meet a family man.” Yet it was disappointing, she was surprised to find, to find out this about him. That he was somehow off whatever market she was on.

Rick wasn’t usually one for TOO much rough housing, but with Daryl (and a little alcohol) it seemed like a good choice. Plus, he DEFINITELY wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. He put all of his strength into it, arms wrapped around the other boy’s slighter frame. He laughed out as they rolled around and clung to each other – not even so sure what the endgame of all this really was. But it was FUN. “Had enough yet?” he asked a bit breathlessly, smiling at his friend as they were pulled pretty CLOSE by the arm around his neck.

Daryl let out a breath as Rick’s arms wrapped around him, clinging as they rolled. He tried to roll out from Rick’s grasp, but the other boy was holding on too tightly. He tried to jab his bony elbow into Rick, but he wasn’t able to find a proper place to jab it, instead just colliding against Rick until they were face to face, both breathing heavily. “No,” he shook his head, “I ne’er give up, Grimes.” His eyes flicked over Rick’s face, settling on his eyes and their different facets of blue.
