Ebert as a child. I wasn’t sure how to caption this piece in a way that didn’t sound dull and silly, but I am overthinking. The context of this illustration is that I was thinking about his youth, his father and mother and their sad fate, as well as how he would be presented. I have this idea that Ebert is a saintly figure and so even as a child he distinguished himself as someone with deep compassion and tender love for others whilst having little regard for the exchange of deeds or mistreatment that he experienced even early on. He took this with him into adulthood. He behaves thoughtlessly as though compassion is a possessing force that determines his deeds and for which he can provide no explanation.

I wanted to capture the purity of his compassion by presenting him as a sort of apparition surrounded by the resigned silhouettes of men and women whose love, trust, and faith has long been murdered by the embitterments, deprivations, degradation of occupation.

Anyone else get fixated on songs to the extent that they’re literally the only thing that you can listen to? For weeks I’ve been unable to listen to anything except Elephant Song by Beirut, I kid you not it’s been on loop, and now it’s Twoje ocze lubią mnie by Strachy Na Lachy (HEEEEELLP HEEELLPP MEEEEEEEE) I don’t know why, perhaps it’s the production or note choice or

Doodles of Lukyan but I couldn’t decide on blue or brown eyes, leaning towards blue because it contrasts more with Ebert and Lukyan is a foil to Ebert. I’ve struggled with this guy’s design for YEARSSSSS but I really like the second doodle in the uhh series thingy. I think we are getting somewhere at last!!! 💥💥💪💪
