Last week for the campaign! This past week we exceeded our second stretch goal, which means all book pledges will receive an Anglo-Saxon style treasure coin as well. Meanwhile it's working on paintings for the illuminated text as we draw near the finish line. Reserve your copy while they're available, before Feb. 4th!

We reached our second stretch goal for the Illuminated Beowulf Project on Kickstarter and now we'll be able to include a custom and enameled challenge coin with every pledge at the Thane level and above! I just got the prototype today, and it is really awesome. A full 2 inches across, it features a cloisonné style enamel pattern based on Anglo-Saxon brooch and bracteate decoration from real treasure hoards, as well as engraved knotwork on the back with the inscription: "Gaeth a wyrd swa hio scel" - "Fate goes ever as it must", taken from the Beowulf text.

We reached our initial funding goal in the first day! The illuminated Beowulf book will be hardcover, bound with imitation leather and gold foiled covers, raised band spines, gilded page edges, and decorative ribbon bookmark. The text will be laid out so the illuminated modern English text will be facing pages with the unadorned Old English (West Saxon) text, which is actually modelled closely on the original Beowulf manuscript.

Beowulf: The Monster Cycle illumination is finished. This will be one of the full page illuminations in the Beowulf book, as well as available as an 11" x 14" print.
