Swedish Handicraft at Liljevalchs 6 June - 2 September 2012
The National Association of Swedish Handicraft Societies [Svenska Hemslöjdsföreningarnas Riksförbund] has its 100th anniversary this year, and is celebrated all over Sweden. The great jubilee exhibition is taking place at Liljevalchs, showing over 900 objects crafted by 500 handicraft artists, as well as the major collective work "Can you see the leaves on the trees?" - a forest whose leaves will be auctioned off.
2,000 leaves create an unusually species-rich forest extending across some of Liljevalchs' galleries. This is a democratic work where everyone who applied to be a leaf-maker has dressed, filled, decorated and designed their own leaves, on a wooden framework, format: 80 x 50 cm. The oldest participant is 88 years old, and the youngest six.
From 25 June, the leaves will be sold in an auction in collaboration with Tradera and Stockholm Consumer Cooperative Society, for the benefit of the Vi Agroforestry Project's plantation of trees in East Africa. The bidding continues until 2 September. See www.tradera.com
