āThe other side [ā¦] are the stories of the effect of war on human beings who take up the call.ā HBO has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary titled We Are Not Done Yet, which is a 40-minute short doc that will premiere on HBO in early November. Directed by filmmaker Sareen Hairabedian and produced by Jeffrey Wright, We Are Not Done Yet profiles a group of veterans and active-duty service members as they come together to combat past and current traumas through the written word, sharing their experiences in a United Service Organizations (USO) writing workshop. This looks like a very emotional, deeply moving, empowering film about how important it is for veterans and service members to support each other as a way of coping with the mental struggles that come with war. It looks like itās worth your attention for their sake.
Hereās the official trailer for Sareen Hairabedianās doc We Are Not Done Yet, from HBOās YouTube:

This documentary follows ten U.S. veterans and active-duty service members from varied backgrounds who come together at the USO Warrior and Family Center in Bethesda, Md. for a workshop led by poet Seema Reza and Community Building Art Works. Striving to combat their traumatic military pasts via the written word, they share fears, vulnerabilities and victories, using their writing as a tool for bonding, empowerment and healing, and engaging in a live performance of a collaborative poem at Washington, D.C.ās Lansburgh Theater under the direction of actor Jeffrey Wright. We Are Not Done Yet is directed by Jordanian-American filmmaker Sareen Hairabedian, an animator in addition to a director - see more of her work on Vimeo. This just premiered at the GI Film Festival San Diego last month. HBO will release We Are Not Done Yet streaming exclusively starting on November 8th next month. Whoās interested in this?

āI wish for deathā - Twelve-year-old Alma says. She fled bombing and shelling twice before the third place they sheltered was bombed, She was rescued from the rubble only to find out both her parents and all four of her siblings had been killed. She found her 18-month-old brother in an unimaginable state. Her little brother was beheaded from the rubble after the IOF massacred them.

In order to show my support for palestine, I thought I would make a postā in typical bird nerd fashionā highlighting some information about one of the many symbols of freedom for the palestinian people: the palestine sunbird.
youāve seen this bird everywhere lately Iām sure,
so, you may be wondering.. why is this bird so important?

In 2013, Israel campaigned to remove āpalestineā from the birdās name. this failed, however, when the palestine wildlife society (PWS) petitioned to instead adopt it as palestineās national bird as a direct defiance of the campaign.
in 2015, the palestine sunbird was officially declared the national bird of palestine.
the palestinian artist khaled jarrar designed a border control stamp featuring the sunbird with which he stamped passports as a cry for freedom.

more recently, khaled jarrar has also created these postal stamps for the same messageā in defiance of israelās efforts to erase palestine.

here you can find an incredible, short documentary detailing his work across the years to use his art as a protest against the plight of the palestinian people.

another palestinian artist, rasha eleyan, uses the sunbird in her work as a motif for the strength and boldness of palestinian women:

(source)
the palestinian poet tamim al-barghouti has tied the palestine sunbirdās beauty to resilience, in saying: āwhenever you face injustice or roughness, remember to defend yourself by finding beauty⦠document, prove, and defend it because all beauty is resistance.ā
the palestine sunbird is a symbol of hope and strength. Itās a symbol of fighting back against the odds and refusal to go quietly into the nightā refusal to be erased.
continue to support palestinian artists.
continue to support palestine.
raise the voices of those who now, more than ever, need to be heard.
from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

There is a heart wrenching video of a father who went to buy biscuits for his son only to return and find out his son and the man's wife had both been killed by an Israeli air strike. He is seen putting the pack of biscuits in his son's hand and saying "take it with you to heaven".
There is an indescribable pain to all of this, and I don't know what Israel thinks it's doing by ripping everyone's heart out like this if not to make the whole world resent the mere mention of it.
I don't think the question we should be asking at this point is "how do you justify this?" anymore, even if rhetorically. We need to understand that it is simply irrational to expect an occupying power that built itself on ethnic cleansing to provide any means of reasoning.
This is genocide, you don't debate genocide and you don't rationalise genocide.
I don't care what you do, but speaking about Palestine doesn't suffice anymore. Speak louder, force people to have uncomfortable conversations, call whoever the heck your representative is, go out to rallies if you can, push others to do the same - this is unlike anything we have seen.

You know what breaks my heart more than anything? Palestinian children are trying to describe the atrocities they're witnessing using English instead of their native tongue to try and get their message heard globally. Palestinian children are also describing the scenes in Gaza while sounding like grown ups and not children because they've witnessed too much at such a young age. These children were deprived of their childhood. Their circumstances forced them to mature and be able to talk about watching their loved ones die. They are literally trying to speak a second language to try and call world leaders to stop killing them and their loved ones. World leaders cannot even utter the word "ceasefire" while a Palestinian child had to explain on camera that she recognized her friend's body only by her coat because her friend's body was beheaded in the bombings.
It's not a conflict; it's ethnic cleansing.
It's not a conflict; it's colonialism.
And if you're somehow convinced that any of this is about religion or antisemitism, I recommend you read this.
