Ethnic Minority Villages of Ratanakiri
Ethnic Minority Villages of Ratanakiri
The north-eastern most province of Cambodia, Ratanakiri, is home to eight different hill tribes, in addition to some Lao and Chinese minority groups. These inhabitants account for approximately two thirds of the province’s population, with the remainder made up of ethnic Khmer (Cambodians). Ratanakiri is the countries’ most sparsely populated province with a density of only 17 people per…

On my last day in Mondulkiri Province I visited the Elephant Valley Project (EVP), 12km outside Sen Monorom. There are many elephant experiences that you can choose to do in the area, however, I chose this particular organisation because it seemed like the most ethical to me. Their main goal is to give captive elephants a life free from captivity, cruelty, and hard work, and to live like they would in their natural habitat. https://ift.tt/2rIi5dA . #elephant #cambodia #conservation #ecotourism #wildlife #trekking #tastetravel #tastetravelfoodadventuretours #sunshinecoast #australia #holiday #vacation #tour #travel #traveler #instafood #instagood #cooking #cookingclass #food #foodie #foodlover #foodtour #foodietravel #sightseeing #delicious #yum https://ift.tt/2Kk1UJQ

Mondulkiri’s Indigenous Bunong People
Mondulkiri’s Indigenous Bunong People
After leaving the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh behind, I headed into the wilds of Cambodia to the eastern province of Mondulkiri. Best known as a coffee growing region, it is also home to the Bunong people, a local indigenous population who are believed to have lived in the region for around 2000 years. Traditionally, they have lived a subsistence lifestyle, although it is very apparent after…

I worked up a bit of an appetite today and when i arrived back in town I went to the Bunong Kitchen, a cafe that has come traditional Bunong food on the menu. The Bunong are indigenous people to this area, although interestingly the cafe is owned by a westerner. I ordered Trav Brang soup which is a broth with jackfruit, pumpkin, eggplant, long beans, pasted rice and jungle eggplant (like pea eggplant). It was served with ginger, citronella, chilli, and a big mound of rice. It was delicious. #tastetravel #tastetravelfoodadventuretours #sunshinecoast #australia #holiday #vacation #tour #travel #traveler #instafood #instagood #cooking #cookingclass #food #foodie #foodlover #foodtour #foodietravel #sightseeing #delicious #yum #restaurant #cafe #streetfood #cambodia #indigenousfood https://ift.tt/2NzMulC

Local Khmer Food Odyssey
Local Khmer Food Odyssey
Last night I took another food tour for dinner in Phnom Penh and I have to say I am really glad I did. Much of the food was sensational, all in local restaurants without a westerner in sight. My guide, Sophany, was very sweet and gave a lot of information about the food and the history of the restaurants. The first stop was at a little place not far from my hotel and I will be sure to go back…

The Ghost’s of Bokor Mountain
The Ghost’s of Bokor Mountain
I first visited Kampot on my second trip to Cambodia in 2014 and had read of the “ghost town” abandoned by the French in 1950, so I was eager to take a look and explore Bokor Mountain. But there is a lot more to the story of this Hill Station, built for the colonist’s elite and the Cambodian royal family to escape the heat of summer. The plateau sits at 1100 m above sea level and the moderate…
