It's late at night. Y/n is swimming along the sea surface, despite her father's wishes. She just had to see that pirate again. She couldn't stop thinking about him. His messy blond hair, his blue eyes, he was the most beautiful man she had ever laid her eyes on.

But he'd never want her. She's a mermaid. Humans, especially pirates, are sworn enemies of the kingdom. Her father would be livid if she even approached him. So she’s content with watching him like this. Wishing she could be part of his world.

A few nights later…

It's a dark, stormy night. Pirate Nanami is out in the sea, celebrating their latest raid with his crew. Despite him not joining in on the festivities.

He always sticks to business while they all let loose, especially with the horrid weather tonight. Everyone was enjoying themselves and getting drunk but Nanami just stood there on the edge of the boat, watching everyone else dance and drink. He couldn't even get himself to do so much as nod. He wasn't in the mood to entertain their antics tonight.

He hadn't been sleeping well. His mind plagued by a gentle melody. He had dreams of a girl. A beautiful one, she smiled so sweetly at him that he could feel his heart race every time he looked at her. She held him close and sang to him, a song so soft and angelic, that for a moment, he forgot about everything.

The storm only got worse with time. Soon, Nanami and his crew were amidst heavy pouring rain. The ship was swaying side to side. The sails thrashed violently with the wind. The board tried to take control, but alas failed. The ship fell, throwing all of its passengers off board.

As Y/N watches this happened, she immediately dives under, swimming to a passed out Nanami.

This country claims to be democratic but 9 unelected people who's values and opinions formed decades prior, who can get into this position without strong or even any valid credentials, can decide to negatively impact or even destroy millions of lives and they cannot be held accountable for it. They can't be impeached or voted out. It's only the most convoluted combination of election-year voting, voter suppression/lack thereof, and idk fucking cowardice from both sides that got any of them to where they are now. 9 people who are cemented in their beliefs and then use the law and constitution to justify their moral opinions that they insist don't influence their rulings at all. We can't vote then out. We just have to hope they retire or die under the presidency of someone who doesn't want to actively kill everything, and eve then we have to contend with any given republican or spineless Democrat in the Senate.

And even then, we cannot get rid of them. Nine people make decisions for 300+ million, affecting their ability to defend themselves, to live peacefully, to lead healthy and happy and safe lives. Nine people can ruin lives for decades to come.

He’s shy to approach you, as usual

If you’re not a guest he’ll set up a situation where you just “coincidentally” run into each other

If you’re a guest he’ll invite you to have dinner in the house, would be as much of a gentleman as possible

Will defend you from any racist remarks people might say

You meet at work

He’s tried to be very professional at work so he probably won’t openly approach you

After some time of knowing each other he’ll ask you out, will pretend it’s just a normal outing with a coworker

Will make a mental note to give anyone who insults you a visit

It’ll take a while for you to be in an official relationship because of his untrustworthiness

He’s a kind of cold partner so don’t expect a lot of affection

Will send you gifts, trying to court you

I would recommend playing hard to get because the things he sends will be pretty nice

Might send someone to look over you, he might be the one doing it if he’s not working

Once you start dating he’ll definitely keep spoiling you, he might slow down a bit if you ask him to but I doubt it
