i've started reading tvl and no amount of posts telling me there's a "huge tonal shift" could have prepared me for this HUGE TONAL SHIFT this is the funniest fucking thing i've ever read it genuinely goes like:

I love how S2 is leaning into actually-unhinged Stede. Like it’s a somewhat less bombastic unhinging (for now), but unhinged all the same. Pimped out The Swede without a blink. Shitty rude customer? There’s our favorite excessively polite fucking bitch! Some knock-off version of him getting added to the nose jar? No skin off Stede’s nose! Like he’s happy Lucius is alive but in a way where he genuinely hadn’t thought about him in ages so it’s like a pleasant surprise. Oh hey, you’re still alive, that’s cool, what about Ed? It takes Lucius lashing out to make him go “hey, you know how I’m deeply repressed? Maybe don’t be like me. Also fuck them kids.” Mans did not notice or care where Olu was during the escape.

Like. Litcheralllly, he and Ed are two fucked up peas in a fucked up pod, lol. Their individual issues are so complementary and that’s why they work 😂. And they both suck so bad.

Izzy fucking Hands may be an absolute dick, but he actually genuinely cares about the crew in a way that Ed and Stede just don’t. He may not be nice to them, but he at least notices shit like when they die/disappear. He tried to remind Ed that they should care that their men died boarding the Spanish ship in S1, and he actually tried to protect the crew from Ed and from being killed for mutiny for doing what they had to do.

It’s fascinating because Ed can be perfectly pleasant and genial and charming as long as things are going his way, and then he can turn on you with an absolute viciousness.

And Izzy is like his mirror, just a deeply unpleasant and joyless man. But one who at least will try to prevent your death if you’re on his crew, and give a shit if he can’t. He’s loyal, for a certain value of loyalty, and he’s more or less predictable.

Whereas Stede has like a handful of fucks to give and he doles those out sparingly. Really, if your name isn’t Edward Teach, you might as well be window dressing, lol. Nice to have around, but if somebody stabs it a bunch of times, oh well.
