Does anyone know where the bit in the description of the Lolth-Sworn "subrace" in bg3 "marked with bright red eyes by Lolth", comes from? There are so many examples that don't fit into that, and I think the separation into "Lolth-Sworn" and "Seldarine" is weird anyways? What about other deities like Vhaeraun? Or those that follow no god at all? And why is it stated that all Lolth-Sworn drow come from Menzoberranzan? It's not like that's the only drow city in the Underdark

Normally I wouldn't bother making a post like this but it came to my attention yesterday via a twitter thread that tumblr user fridaypls is using AI elements in their fanart. Now, if they were doing this because they didn't feel entirely confident in their artistic ability, and they were just doing this for fanart they posted online, then I'd shrug my shoulders and go "eh, whatever"

However, I then found out that fridaypls is selling this fanart and even making posts like "buy my Gale print and get Tim Downie to sign it" and I just can't sit idly by whilst someone makes profit off AI 'art' and there are so many other artists (myself included) trying to make a living off our own art.

The tweet thread about the use of AI by fridaypls can be viewed here and here but I'll also copy and paste some of the examples under a cut line in this post.

So far on twitter, fridaypls got wind of the thread going around about them and they deactivated their account rather than take accountability. I'm probably going to be blocked by them for making this post, but I encourage you to reblog this and spread the word and please, PLEASE don't buy artwork from someone using AI generated images. There are so many other hardworking artists out there making amazing fanart and merch that you can give your money to instead.

Astarion stared at the cat, stretched across the burgundy velvet pillow situated in the corner of the room. When they had arrived at the tavern, it had insisted on having the biggest pillow placed near the sunniest window. The sun loved its features it had proclaimed but the dreary shadow lands had dampened its style.

“Thief?” Astarion tutted at the smooth cat laying leisurely before him, barely giving him so much as a glance.

His Majesty stretched and yawned before finally deciding to sit up and give Astarion a modicum of respect. Whether he would retain it during their conversation was another matter entirely.

“I heard you chatting with the short one.” His Majesty leaned his head slightly, pointing towards the person seated near the fireplace.

“I’ve inspired you so that you’ve taken to speaking like me,” the cat retorted as it licked one of its paws. “Allowing them to speak to you, much like I’m doing now.”

Astarion crossed his arms and glared at the cat. He’d stolen a lot of things from a lot of people but never anything from a damn cat. He was insulted at the insinuation.

“I beg your pardon??” 

“You’d do well to remember where you hear such things in the future.” And with a final yawn, His Majesty began kneading the pillow to return to his nap. The conversation was over as far as it was concerned. 

“You’re dismissed,” he said as he curled back up, his tail wrapping around him.

“Don’t you take that tone with me. Remember who fetches your milk, feline.”

Astarion was left standing there in silence, irked that a cat had just scolded him. His Majesty had already closed his eyes and gone back to dozing in the sun beaming across his pillow.

Drow Lore 🕷️ Noble House Hierarchy

Typical hierarchy of a noble Lolth-sworn drow house (based mainly on Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue, 4e):

🕷️ Matron mother - the senior female of the family and the dictatorial ruling head of the house. Her rule is absolute, enforced by the females beneath her (usually her daughters). All lesser roles are decreed by, and can be changed at the whim of, the matron mother. Her reign ends only with her death, which often comes at the hands of her eldest daughter.

🕷️ First daughter - who usually claims the title of first priestess of the house. She serves as her mother's advisor and supervises day-to-day operations of the house. She is also typically groomed to replace her mother at some point.

🕷️ Other daughters, in order of age - also priestesses. They wield little true authority until they complete their training at the Academy. A daughter who is not in direct line to rule due to having older sisters sometimes separates from her matron’s house (with permission, of course) and forms a house of her own, with nominal loyalty to the “parent” house. In this way, drow houses spread their influence, but also often create their own eventual rivals.

🕷️ Other female relatives of matron mother - sisters (if they are still alive, since they are often seen as potential rivals), cousins, granddaughters and so on.

🕷️ House wizard - the leader of the house’s arcane spellcasters. It is one of the three most important house positions that are available for a male, and sometimes also considered the most prestigious one (priestesses usually treat their house wizards with at least modicum of respect).

🕷️ House weapon master - the best warrior of the house responsible for training and leading the house troops. Another important male-only position.

🕷️ House patron - matron mother's favored consort. Prestigious, but often precarious position, since some matron mothers like to replace their patrons quite often.

🕷️ First son - usually trained to fill the position of the house wizard or weapon master at some point.

🕷️ Other sons, in order of age - often trained as "backup" house wizards or leaders of warriors. Male heirs of noble drow houses are ranked by age: elderboy, secondboy, thirdboy, and so on. The thirdboy is customarily sacrificed to Lolth shortly after being born. Only one such sacrifice is required of each matron mother, as a one-time test of her loyalty to the goddess.

Halsin whittling things is all fine and good but he also canonically sketches anatomical subjects. Mans is an all around artiste. I NEED to see what those sketches look like.
