The films of Pier Paolo Pasolini contain horrifying images of grotesque mutilations and perverse sexual acts. Yet never controversial for the sake of controversy, Pasolini illuminated the darker side of mankind. Always rooting the fantastical within reality - it is an interesting point to make that Pasolini utilized sets for his magnum opus, Salò, a far too real tale that was too gruesome for the actual landscapes of this world. It is a shame that 40 years ago today, Pasolini met a fate much similar to those of his characters. Tortured by fire and castrated, it can be said that Pasolini was murdered for his radical political views and being openly homosexual in a far too critical and hypersensitive world.
Rest In Power to a master of cinema, and may his pageantry of violence and obscenity live on forever.
