“Hey,” says Lucretia. “You’re out of this world.”

Lup turns, and it’s almost comical, the way the stars outside frame her silhouette like they’re making a place for her among them. Her mouth twitches in a smirk as she says, “Sorry, what?”

“Out of this world,” Lucretia repeats, and feels her face burning. “Because—oh, gods, that was such a shitty attempt at flirting. I should probably just apologize. Yeah. Sorry about that.”

But Lup looks a little too delighted as she reclines against the glass and holds out a hand. “No. Y’know what? I was being judgy. You gotta continue.”

Lucretia doesn’t respond right away—possibly because she’s still struggling not to die of embarrassment on the spot—and when she stalls, Lup clasps her hand together and fixes her with a pleading gaze. “C’mon,” she says. “Please. Please. I gotta hear this.”

“I—”

“Please, Luce?”

Lucretia pinches the bridge of her nose. “You… must be from space… because you’re out of this world.”

Where the warmth links them in fiery, volatile threads, Lucretia feels the force of Lup’s gravity pulling her toward the points of least resistance, and she is happy to oblige. When they meet, they are no longer themselves but two rogue fireworks, spiraling and flinging sparks, and they are bright, bright, bright.
