Trees to meet you! TDP Prism event mods here!  Mods: (@dragonnguard, @no-cinnamon-for-synonym, and @beautifulterriblequeen)
As we’re all waiting with bated breath for the first hint of Season 6 news, we thought to ourselves, “Selves, this is a great time to celebrate our own imaginations as a fandom.” So we’re hosting an event, and you’re invited to share your creations!
TDP Prism is a celebration of transformation and inspiration, and all ideas that spring from canon are welcome. In the same way that extraordinary means “outside the ordinary,” extracanon just means “outside canon.” We are looking for works which have been transformed by you, the artists and creators, leaving your own fingerprints on something you love. You’re part of the process, and we’re glad you’re in this fandom with us!
Tumblr media
The TDP Prism event will offer seven weekly prompts, beginning the week of March 10th (see schedule below).
We’re so excited to share your art, fanfic, cosplay, headcanons, crack ideas, AUs, incorrect quotes, AMVs, napkin sketches, crossovers, worst timelines, and more! And if someone else’s tagged work bounces a new ray of light off of you and inspires you to create in response, we’ll gladly share that too!
Make sure to use the event hashtag: #tdpprism2024
Prompts:
March 10: Twist - opportunity, luck, chaos, freedom, failure
March 17: Chains - legacy, imprisonment, guilt, suffering, connection
March 24: Dance - hands, journeying, lead/follow, pattern, partners
March 31: Strive - hope, longing, challenge, heart, daring
April 7: Resist - struggle, sacrifice, corruption, secret, fascination

Favorite Ships Part 2 Discussion (1)
Shipping Poll Main Page · Full Ship List · Favorite Ships Results (Part 2) · Discussion (part 2)
Ship Preferences
Here are the results for the top 8 most popular favorite ships (Rayllum, Viravos, Janaya, Ruthari, Claaravos, Virrow, Sorvus and Terridia), showing which other ships they were written in together with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While some ships can have equal numerical votes, the percentage reveals the difference in how significant this number is overall. For instance, 21 shippers who chose Rayllum as their favorite ship also chose Janaya, and vice versa. While that's roughly 23% of Rayllum shippers, it's almost 43% of Janaya shippers.
Also, notice how most ships on the table are just a rotation of the same eight most popular ships, with the exception of Claaravos shippers who are most likely to name Raydia as their other favorite ship.
While most other shippers have Rayllum as their most popular choice, Virrow and Terridia are most likely to consider Viravos as their other favorite ship, with Virrow shippers being the overwhelming majority. Time and time again, this proves to be a unique position in our fandom, as most other shippers don't seem to be as keen to ship what I would like to call "sister ships".
Sister Ships
I would like to define sister ships as two or more ships which share one of the shipped characters.
I would like to define rival ships as ships that have had some actual rivalry (or other forms of animosity) in the fandom (it is subjective data, based on my own observation and people sharing their experiences).
Here are the sister (blue) and rival (red) ships for Rayllum, Viravos, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow and Raydia. Some of the rival ships have mutual shippers (for example, Rayllum and Sorayla - there was one person who considered both ships their favorite) but I also added rival ships with no overlap, to illustrate how Rayllum is the most likely to have shippers also consider rival ships their favorite ships, while Claaravos shippers are the least likely to do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The popular ships not included on the tables:
Janaya has no sister ships and one rival ship - Gremaya - with no overlapping shippers.
Terridia has no sister ships and one rival ship - Claaravos - with no overlapping shippers.
Ruthari has no sister or rival ships.
Viren Ships
Getting back to Virrow, this truly is the king of sister ships in the Favorite Ships category. Not only does it have the biggest number of them (8), it also has no rival ships, at least not to my knowledge.
And this is actually a unique aspect of Viren ships - there hasn't seemed to be any animosity among them and many Viren fans tend to multiship him. Which is why I decided to make a Viren ship matrix based on the Viren ships that were chosen as people's favorites together with other Viren ships. The deeper orange are the ships that were written in only with other Viren ships.
Tumblr media
(Click here for the bigger version on Google Docks)
The biggest overlap is, of course, between Viravos and Virrow (the two biggest Viren ships) but you can see the sheer number of Viren ships that made it on the Favorite Ships list. In fact, he is the most shipped character in this category
Tumblr media
(Click here for the bigger version on Google Docks)
And while Rayla, Soren and Aaravos are close seconds, their shippers aren't as connected among each other.
Please bear in mind that this is only true for Favorite Ships. In the General Shipping Category, you will see a lot more overlap between not only sister ships but also rival ships.

Shipping Poll Results: 2 Favorite Ships
Shipping Poll Main Page · General Stats · Favorite Ships Part 1 · Full Ship List · Discussion (part 1)
Part 2 Ship Preferences and Shipper Age
2.2.1 Ship Preferences
Since people could write in up to three favorite ships, it was interesting to look at which ships where most often written in together.
The table below shows which ships the shippers of Rayllum, Viravos, Janaya, Ruthari, Claaravos, Virrow, Sorvus and Terridia also chose as their favorite ships. The data was taken only from the votes where the people wrote in two or three ships. The number in each cell represents the number of people who wrote in the ship on the left with a ship above. E.g. 12 people who chose Rayllum as their favorite ship also wrote in Viravos.
The full table with all the ships will be linked below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Link to the full table, with the ships listed alphabetically)
2.2.2 Shipper Age
The table below shows the distribution of shippers of various ships by age. These are the people who chose the ships on the left as their favorite ships. The numbers in the cells are the number of people who picked the given age category.

Favorite Ships Part 1 Discussion (2)
Shipping Poll Main Page · Full Ship List · Favorite Ships Results (Part 1) · Discussion (1)
Vote Breakdown
When asked about their favorite ships, most people filled all three available slots, while some only picked one or two. It was interesting to see a breakdown of these votes, since a ship that is listed as the only entry for favorite ship feels somehow more significant than a ship that is listed as third out of three. Then again, this may vary from person to person, as some people wrote a single ship because they don't care about shipping but didn't want to leave the field empty and some of those who listed three ships might ship them all equally strongly. Thus take the following table with a grain of salt.
The table below shows the total number of votes, the number of votes where the ship is listed as first out of two or three, as second out of two or three, as third out of three, or as the only entry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This table on Google Sheets)
I would like to focus on the first 8 ships. The table below shows the vote breakdown for Rayllum, Viravos, Janaya, Ruthari, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow and Terridia. Each cell is color coded accroding to how common the postion was among the voters:
Tumblr media
We can transform them to percentages to make the data easier to compare:
Tumblr media
(These tables on Google Sheets)
What we can see is that Rayllum and Claaravos are most common as only ship choices for their respective shippers, with the second most common option being the first position. Viravos is most common as the first choice out of two or three, with second choice and only ship being the second most common options. All three of these ships are the least common of all these ships to be listed in the third position.
Janaya and Ruthari as most common among their shippers as the second choice, and second most common as the only choice. However, they are least common as the first choice.
Virrow is most common as the second choice and Sorvus is most common as the third, but they're both second most common as the first choice and least common as the only ship.
Terridia, just like Sorvus, is most common as the third choice, but notice how much bigger the percentage here is. Most ships' most common position ranges between 37 and 46%, while Terridia was chosen as the third option by 58.3% of people. Its second most common position is second choice and it's the only ship that isn't anyone's first choice. There are, however, 8.3% who chose it as their only ship.
Here are graphs for each individual ship:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we assume that being chosen as the only ship or on the first position out of two or three ships make a ship more important to the shipper (which, as I discussed above, is not always the case in reality), we can combine these two metrics and re-rank the ships accordingly:
The names in green rose in rank, the names in red - fell, and the names in black stayed the same. Ships with a red zero don't have any voted as only ships or first choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is how ship vote percentage changes in that case:
Chart on the left: all votes Chart on the right: 1st position and only ship votes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The table above and these charts on Google Sheets)
We can see that Rayllum immediately got a bigger chunk of the pie. Viravos, Claaravos and Virrow increased as well, while Janaya, Ruthari and Terridia decreased.

Favorite Ships Part 1 Discussion (1)
Shipping Poll Main Page · Full Ship List · Favorite Ships Results (Part 1) · Discussion (2)
Margin of Error
The margin of error for this poll is 6,7%, which means that the results I got might not represent the whole fandom. Moreover, it can render some of the results statistically insignificant. Consider the following table with the results accounting for the margin of error:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The table on google sheets)
See how while Terridia received 12 votes and, say, Soryx got only one, according to my results, not only is it impossible to say whether Terridia is more popular as a favorite ship than Soryx, both results, at the end of the day, become statistically insignificant. Then again, Terridia can potentially be as popular or even more popular than Ruthari, while Ruthari is more popular than any ship after Terridia.
You can see below how Rayllum is the only ship with a certain placement in ranking and the rest can move up or down. The lines that have two colors are of ships that could switch places with the color above and the color below. The table features ships that got at least 5 votes:
Tumblr media
Here's what we can say with certainty about the shipping preferences of our fandom:
Rayllum is most people's favorite ship.
Viravos and Janaya are just as likely to be people's favorite ship as Ruthari but are more likely than the rest of the ships.
Ruthari is just as likely to be people's favorite ship as both Viravos and Janaya, as well as Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia, but more likely than the rest of the ships.
So, realistically speaking, the ranking looks like this
Tumblr media
Rank 1: Rayllum Ranks 2 and 3: Viravos, Janaya or Ruthari (i.e. any of these three can be number 2 as their highest rank, and Viravos and Janaya are unlikely to fall lower than 4) Rank 4: Viravos, Janaya, Ruthari, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia (if Viravos or Janya are here, it means Ruthari is #2 or 3 and the other ships are automatically pushed to #5 or lower) Ranks 5 and 6: Ruthari, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow, Terridia, Claudium, Pyrren, Raydia or the rest of the ships (if Ruthari is here, it means Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia are at #4) Ranks 7 to 12: all the ships starting Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow and down.
We can rewrite this table by the highest rank the ships can get:
Tumblr media
Redistributing Polyship Votes
This one is tricky. Let's take Sorayllum as an example - some shippers will also ship Sorayla, Rayllum and Calren separately, some might only ship one or two of the three permutations, while others might only ship them as a trouple. However, if we assume, that a person who ships Sorayllum also ships the three couples that it implies, we can count a vote for Sorayllum as three separate votes, one for each couple it connects.
We had the following polyships (listed alphabetically):
Claarasef (Claudia x Aaravos x Kasef)
Laidriruthari (Lain x Tiadrin x Runaan x Ethari)
Rexavibeia (Rex Igneous x Avizandum x Zubeia)
Varrai (Viren x Harrow x Sarai)
Virdivos (Viren x Claudia x Aaravos)
Virrowvos (Viren x Harrow x Aaravos)
The votes for these ships where redistributed to the couple ships they're comprised of, with an exception of the cases when a person voted for both a polyship and one of its mono ship components, e.g. a Sorayllum shipper who voted for both Sorayllum and Sorayla.
So here's how that changed the rankings: Table on the right - the original rankings Table on the left - the rankings after vote redistribution Purple: ships that got additional votes Orange: polyships (excluded from the table on the left) Blue: ships that were created by splitting polyships into component but weren't voted for by shippers Red ship names: ships that fell in rank Black ship names: ships that didn't change rank Green ship names: ships that rose in rank
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This table on Google Sheets)
What we see is that changes are very small. Most ships that got extra points didn't even rise in rank (Virdia being the only ship that did). Claaravos cemented its position at #5, pushing Sorvus and Virrow to #6. Virdia rose from #10 to #9.
We can see that the margin of error changes are also quite small, with the only significant difference being that Claaravos is now essentially one vote away from being able to compete with Janaya for the third place.

Is Callum/Aanya a problematic ship?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm making a comprehensive ship list in Google Sheets and where I make ships filterable so that if someone doesn't like a certain dynamic (for example adult/minor), they can filter that out. However, both Callum and Aanya are teens, they're both minors and their age gap is only 3 years. But I'm an adult and I don't know if actual teens are not comfy with this.

Shipping Poll Results: 1. General Stats
Next: Favorite Ships (Part 1) · Shipping Poll Main Page
Thank you everyone for waiting! I would like to start with the general statistics.
1.1 General Information
The poll was open from June 1, 2023 til July 22, 2023 and gathered 216 responses. The links to the poll were shared on Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit, Discord (several servers), Instagram, Dreamwidth and later Mastodon.
Please note that with 216 responses, the margin of error is 6.7%, which means that not all of the results will be representative of the fandom as a whole or statistically significant. More on error (link to an explanation I wrote for the S3 shipping poll).
1.2 Where People Found the Poll
Tumblr media
Vote breakdown for this question
211 responses out of 216
Tumblr - 77 votes (36.5%)
Twitter - 53 votes (25.1%)
Reddit - 52 votes (24.6%)
Discord - 26 voted (12.3%)
Instagram - 0 votes (0%)
Dreamwidth - 1 vote (0.5%)
Through a friend - 2 votes (0.9%)
5 people skipped the question
Mastodon was not included as a choice.
Discussion
Tumblr has always been the most active hub when it came to the fandom events I organized. Reddit used to be more active in the past. Instagram varied but I didn't expect to get zero responses. This was probably due to changes on Instagram itself, which removed the ability to view new posts. I will probably not post any future events on Instagram.
1.3 Participants' Age
Tumblr media
Vote breakdown for this question
207 responses out of 216
13 or younger - 3 votes (1.4%)
14-17 - 36 votes (17.4%)
18-21 - 57 votes (27.5%)
22-25 - 41 votes (19.9%)
26-30 - 38 votes (18.4%)
31-35 - 22 votes (10.6%)
36-40 - 4 votes (1.9%)
41-45 - 4 votes (1.9%)
46-50 - 1 vote (0.5%)
51+ - 1 vote (0.5%)
9 people skipped this question
Discussion
With a small sample size, these results are very likely unrepresentative of the whole fandom, meaning that while the majority of the participants in this survey fall in the age group between 18 and 21 years old, they might not be the actual majority of the active online fanbase.
Moreover, as one participant pointed out, having fixed groups instead of separate ages might skew these results even further.
1.4 When the Participants Joined the Fandom
I can immediate say that I must've worded the options badly, because I got a large number of manual input answers, some of which correspond to my suggested options. For this reason, I made my own pie chart which accounts for that.
Tumblr media
Note on the vote options
By "After S1" I mean starting from the release of season 1 until the release of season 2. Thus the hiatus was included in the option "After S3). I will try to word the options more clearly for the next poll.
I didn't originally have the option "Before S1" and added it because three people mentioned that in their responses.
Vote breakdown for this question
212 responses out of 216.
Before S1 - 3 votes (1.4%)
After S1 - 69 votes (32.7%)
After S2 - 29 votes (13.7%)
After S3 - 69 votes (32.7%)
After S4 - 28 votes (13.3%)
Don't remember - 13 votes (6.2%)
4 people skipped the question
Discussion
It appears that seasons 1 and 3 were the main times when people joined the fandom. It makes sense for S1 and 2, since they were released very close to each other (September 2018 and February 2019 respectively) but S4 came after a three year hiatus. I really expected more people to join the fandom after it aired, especially since the poll was held 7 months after its release.
1.5 Relevance of Shipping
Tumblr media
Vote breakdown for this question
213 responses out of 216
1 out of 5 - 20 votes (9.4%)
2 out of 5 - 34 votes (16%)
3 out of 5 - 58 votes (27.2%)
4 out of 5 - 64 votes (30%)
5 out of 5 - 37 votes (17.4%)
3 people skipped this question
Discussion
Unsurprisingly, most people taking a survey about shipping do actually care about shipping. However, I'm also glad to see that people to whom shipping isn't as important also took their time to take the survey. Overall, of a scale from 1 to 5, the participants would rate the important of shipping as part of their fandom experience as 3.3.
