i hate barry/iris so far. this show is pissing me off so much because like- she is in a relationship?? and shes clearly very happy in it?? and the show is refusing to let barry move on from her. like, they'll tease possible love interests before tossing them out and going "actually nope! barry is still in love with iris and always will be :)"

and im on s01ep16 rn, and that feeling has just grown through the entire episode. because like, iris found out barry is the flash and they kiss and shit and my entire thought process was just like- both of you have other people, one of you is in a dedicated relationship where you are LIVING together, and i feel that if iris did not know that barry was the flash that would not have happened then lo and behold! as the episode continues and barry travels back in time and confesses to her and says that he knows she feels the same, she doesn't reciprocate!!!! she likes the flash, not barry, and the only reason she ever kissed him is because of the fact that hes the flash

and i know im going to pissed off because ive gotten slightly spoiled so i know that they end up together but i hate it!!! let barry grow from his crush on iris!! there are multiple characters which he has better potential with, and most importantly, do not see him as a brother!!!!!!!

No offense to Smallville and ADMITTEDLY I have not watched this full episode but The Flash s3 memory loss episode was just so divine that nothing is ever topping it for me in regards to that trope

so many fans hate on Iris for calling Barry out and suggesting that they handled Nora working with Thawne together vs Barry sending her back to the future only for the next episode to show exactly why Barry should’ve waited and listened to Iris feelings on this-

Hey, I saw you answer someone’s question that included a comparison of the way fandom reactions to Bonnie Bennett and Iris West-Allen from the shows The Vampire Diaries and The Flash and the differences. This isn’t really towards you but more towards the person asking you. I believe the TVD fans tries to appear to be less racist now. I see them all the time on TikTok concern trolling Bonnie or almost bragging about how much better their white faves were treated than her on the show. There was one comment with thousands of likes saying Klaus only ever called Caroline and Elena “love” out of the trio which is false. There’s tons of posts almost giddy over Jeremy cheating on Bonnie with Anna. One TikTok has over half a million likes about it.

I think the difference is The Flash fandom doesn’t try to hide their racism. It’s very much aggressive rather than passive aggressive. But they also show their frustration over Iris being “chosen” by Barry over other ladies like Patty, Felicity, Caitlin. Rarely is Linda the Asian woman brought up. There’s a resentment for Iris being the black woman and loved unconditionally by the hero so they can’t concern troll or pretend like they like her. They can’t show joy over her being beneath other women. They say she’s put on a pedestal. So they lash out a lot more over it. Because to a point you made, they feel she’s undeserving due to her skin color.

I think both Kat and Candice have been treated horrendously by these fandoms. It just appears in slightly different ways now.

Agree! Kat and Candice deserved so much better than the fandoms they had to deal with. Neither woman ever did anything to deserve such racist backlash.

Random thought but I remember when westallen broke up during season 7 when mirror!Iris kicked Barry out of their apartment. Like as the viewer I knew everything would be fine and they wouldn't stay broken up and Barry would find the real Iris. And yet I remember being so heartbroken mind you by this point I had been watching the show for 7- 8 years by this point. And I loved Westallen with all my heart, I literally have been rooting for them since episode one. Which in hindsight was silly but I was still so distraught. Like yes I know this is a tv show it isn't that serious but that didn't really matter, Iris and Barry as a couple and as individuals characters are my favorite characters in the show. And that arc was definitely hard to watch.
