Buuhh. Trying really hard not to stress. Stressing anyway. Had the interview on Thursday, seemed like it went really well and I was their last interview, lots of positive signs but unfortunately in this day and age that can mean anything or nothing. I mean. I don't think it means nothing, they're a nonprofit helping foster kids. I'm supposed to hear back on either monday or tuesday. Probably monday because they said "early next week" but also things happen.

And then I got a call from one of the jobs and they gave me kind of a pre-interview and it's uh. A LOT more than I was expecting. I'd be a switchboard operator at a school where teens sometimes maim themselves or others. Uh. MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING. But can't say no if I want to still qualify for unemployment! Which still hasn't come in even though cause of separation was confirmed! At least I have until the 24th to decide. Also it's technically a state job so. Foot in the door? Yyyaaayy...?

On top of THAT the post office gave me a conditional job offer. It'd be part-time and I have no idea if it'll be enough hours to support me.

I also have 72 hours to respond. Well, as of yesterday. So I have until tuesday morning. Again, can't refuse because that'll disqualify me for unemployment.

IT'S KIND OF A LOT FOR AUTISM-OCD BRAIN TO HAVE TO SUDDENLY MAKE A BUNCH OF TIME-SENSITIVE DECISIONS THAT REST ON OTHER TIME-SENSITIVE DECISIONS THAT I DON'T HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER.

They do think that. They literally think that just thinking about the Devil makes him stronger. So they use euphemisms like "the Enemy" or "I think this is a scheme of the Enemy" because they're utterly batshit scared of being contaminated or someone how letting the Evil in just through thought-crime.

Now I'm not saying a bunch of these people should go get checked out for Contamination-subset OCD because it'd probably make their lives a lot better to get treated for it, but...

Every time I hear people talk about satanic imagery or satanic propaganda I think about that tweet that was like, some people view Satan as a video game villain where he gets stronger the more people worship him

Protip, if you are doing a certain Thing tomorrow: you can buy a lot of supplies at thrift stores! And they will usually only be labelled as [DOLLAR AMOUNT]. So you can buy a whole bunch of things with a card and the only thing that will show up in your bank will be [DOLLAR AMOUNT AT X THRIFT STORE]. Which could be anything!

On my very last day of work, the day I was fired, in the morning I had a very sweet Latino man call in, asking if we were hiring. I said we were, we were always looking for new technicians and there's no harder workers than Latino day laborers, man. He could come by and pick up an application to fill out.

But the idea ate at me. The owner's a Trumper and hardcore Fox watcher. Probably in a christian nationalist cult. He himself was surprisingly not racist? But his dad definitely was and there were other technicians (and the accountant of course) who... definitely had unkind thoughts toward persons who clearly speak english as a second language. This was the end of April and I knew things were getting worse.

So he came by later, picked up an application, and went to take it home. And I just couldn't... I don't know. Part of me was like, "he'll be fine, they wouldn't do anything here, and he'd be a great worker. I'm sure he needs a job like everyone else."

But something else won out. So I ran out into the parking lot to warn him. "Hey, hun, I have to warn you... the owner's a Trumper, and the accountant is... she says real bad things about Latinos, man." His eyes went wide and he nodded. Oh was definitely the look on his face.

I told him it's up to him but I just wanted him to be safe, and he thanked me very much. I wasn't sure at the time if that was the right decision but I'm glad I did. That was the very last day I was there so I have no idea if he turned in that application.

I hope not. I think about him a lot still. I hope he's okay.

Doing art is much harder than it looks right now because every hour I spend on art, there's a voice in the back of my brain telling me, "You could have put out another application in the last hour. That one could be the one to get you a job."

Even after I stop applying for the day, there's a voice counting how many applications I could have put out between stopping and sleeping. I can barely enjoy anything right now because it's there, constantly. "You could have put out twice as many applications, making your odds twice as good. 8 is better than 4. 16 is better than 8."
