Hot Ice
Tumblr media
I wanted to make something related to hockey. With the past 6 Stanley Cups including Florida teams I wanted to shed some light on the fact that just because it is Florida does not mean that it is not a hockey state because of the high temperatures. In the process of this I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do related to it. I know I wanted to do a photograph I just didn’t know what I wanted to include. So I picked a few pieces of equipment that I was going to photograph. Then I was thinking how to arrange the equipment and how to photograph it. The way I laid the equipment down I was trying to play on the perspective as well as changing the camera lens and angle in order to get an interesting view of the equipment. Then I started playing with the different filters on my computer to manipulate the picture and how much of the equipment the viewer can see.

The first impression I got from this piece is that it made me feel lonely. The blue light and the solo couple made me feel on odd feeling of sadness. Hi my name is TJ Smalling an interesting fact about me is that I love to play ice hockey. I am working to become an RN and then to eventually become a CRNA. 5 facts about my artist 1. He has been a licensed pilot since the age of 16. 2. He studied perceptual psychology at Pomona college. 3. He registered as a conscientious objector and flew Chinese Buddhist monks out of Chinese controlled Tibet. 4. He has been working on the Roden Crater project which is in an old cinder volcano. He has been working on transforming it into a unique astronomical observatory. 5. He has received many honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship. Short Paragraph The first time I looked at the art it made me think about just the color blue and how it made me feel a little more on the sad side. This is also because there were only two people sitting next to each other. But since I saw that he uses multiple different colors of lights now I think that Turrell does a great job of using perception in order to change how people feel about the art piece. I now more so have a feeling of awe in how he can change the feeling of viewers depending on color and the amount of people in the art. James Turrell 2013 Aten Reign. Daylight and LED light, dimensions variable, installation cycles through the color spectrum in an hour.
