─ THE CHANGE OF SCENERY IS a surprise but not unwelcome. the world seems to spring to life with a vast view of green and an array of colors thanks to the flowers that have since bloomed. but, because this world is still one giant mystery to discover and things never quite go the way anyone wants it to, a new phenomena dawns before it’s possible to fully enjoy the change of weather.
immediately, weiss feels an innate need to protect the village’s latest visitors ─ especially some of the smaller ones. the sadness and looks of loss in their eyes is something that’s eerily familiar, and it’s in that moment that weiss knows, in some way or another, she wants to help them. thankfully, others feel the same ─ apparent by the tasks requested of the villagers. good.
she decides the task with her partner in mind ─ it’s pretty much a given at this point that weiss and ruby do most things together now! at first, weiss has thought that gathering a cure would be the most obvious choice for their skill set. but another plea tugs at her heartstrings ─ ‘ mom has not been around for a while... ’, coupled by sullen expressions. weiss wants to comfort them and help aid their loneliness, and is sure ruby will feel the same.
...besides, how long has it been since her and ruby were able to sit and do something simple and fun together?
❝ alright, ruby! ❞ weiss places the supplies on the table between them and then places a tray of coffee down, one for her, and one sugar with coffee for ruby, ❝ these surely won’t make themselves, so it’s about time we get started. and, if we run out, the shore isn’t too far of a walk to get more. ❞ a beach-side walk? the idea is.. quite appealing. weiss clears her throat and hands ruby the instructions for various trinkets to make the Children, with a smirk.
❝ so, which should we start out with? and absolutely no slacking or goofing off ─ ❞ she quips, but her tone hints affection, ❝ we have to make the best crafts these kids have seen. ❞

‘ hey !! ‘ her face contorts into an abrupt show of displeasure. If the sound ‘harrumph’ could have an image associated with it, ruby’s face would, without a doubt, be the current dictionary example. ‘ my semblance developed when i was thirteen. i didn’t start drinking coffee until i was fourteen, thank you very much. ‘ her form plops down into the seat of their booth, a slight bounce propelling her upwards before she finally settles, expression beginning to sour with the added importance to their conversational topic. ‘ not that it’s doing anything for me now, though. not in this place. ‘
her eyes catch the tightened grip of her partner’s hands before silver flickers hurriedly to meet with weiss’ eyes, though she finds no gaze to return with weiss focused on the expanse of her own thoughts & memories. ruby’s expression relaxes, falls into something much more solemn than it had been before. ‘ weiss … ‘
yet weiss persists past the point ruby had thought she’d go – at least in public, where everything but the walls could listen in on their conversations, & even then who could really know if they didn’t ? not that their words are something bathed in secrecy, but privacy was an awful thing to invade, ruby thought. purposely or not. she knows weiss values privacy, & also how her emotions are perceived by others. ruby’s face falls softer still as concern & worry form clouds in her eyes & her hands move of their own accord to catch weiss’ as they leave the surface of her mug, her own fingers gently grasping around them. ruby gives both a gentle, comforting squeeze. knowing that she’d held her mug long enough to almost burn herself turns the silver in her eyes to steel. ‘ weiss, look at me, ‘ she pleads, her elbows sliding across the tabletop in opposite directions as her torso lowers, head dipping down in an effort to catch weiss’ gaze.
‘ i know i never asked much about your dad & what happened — i didn’t want to pry because i knew … if you were ready, you would tell me on your own — but i can tell whatever he did, it made you afraid. … & i’m sorry. i’m sorry he made you feel scared. ‘ she takes a breath, then smooths the pads of her thumbs across weiss’ skin, as if the simple motion could massage the pain from her soul like a tightly wound muscle finding release. ‘ you’re not alone, weiss. ‘
ruby sighs, & blinks back the mistiness of tears that’s begun to make her vision blurry, willing herself to be strong when weiss could not be. ‘ i would never let someone take you some place you didn’t want to go. not even your dad. i’d fight him if i had to. all of us would. getting hurt isn’t a problem if it happens while we’re protecting each other. we all have each other to fall back on. ‘
ruby pulls weiss’ hands closer, further across the table as she shifts in her seat. she’d moved so close to the edge as she spoke without even realizing it, & had almost fallen off the cushion. how embarrassing would that have been amidst a heartwarming speech ? the thought makes ruby chuckle aloud softly. ‘ you don’t have to be sorry —— we all have worries, weiss, but the good thing is that we can take them on together. ‘
her eyes flicker down from weiss’ gaze towards their clasped hands & then back, quickly, suddenly very much aware of how long she’d been holding them. the thought itself makes her gradually release her hold, & she laughs sheepishly as a rosy plume of color blooms at the tips of her ears. ( too bad they’d been warming up for quite a while now, otherwise she’d blame it on the cold. she still might. )
‘ ridiculous or not, something brought us both here. something … brought us back together. ‘ she flashes a soft smile, one hand retracting from the table to tangle itself within crimson tinted locks, & perhaps to push some of them over her blushing ears. ‘ anyways — at least we both seem to remember everything we’ve been through. uncle qrow didn’t even know we’d made it to argus when i first saw him here. ‘
( i was scared it’d be the same for you. she keeps the thought to herself, deciding not to bring about a problem that‘s already solved itself. )
her attention returns to the coffee she’d forgotten through the escalation of their discussion, realization blooming in her eyes before she quickly reaches for her mug & takes a long, long sip. ‘ ah — one day i’ll stop letting my coffee get cold right in front of me. ‘
she laughs over the rim. ‘ so —- we both remember everything up to arriving in atlas. ‘ the cup is set against the table’s surface with an audible clink. ‘ what about your powers ? are yours … gone, too ? ‘ part of her already knows the answer, but she has to be sure.
leave it to ruby to have the ability to bring a smile ‘pon her features amidst the hectic situation. her pout following the association of caffeine with semblance and the coupled rebuttal makes the air feel just a little bit lighter ─ it’s another reminder that, over time, things are going to be okay. the light flickers a bit, though, as she’s reminded that their semblances aren’t present among the snowy scenery. just another mystery they’d have to figure out; together.
immediately following her sudden, impulsive confession is the feeling of surprise. weiss hadn’t planned on laying everything out in the open like that. not that she doesn’t trust ruby, or anything like that ─ weiss is almost certain that ruby is the first one she’d want to talk with about everything. rather, she can’t quite believe that she was so quick to reveal such deep feelings in such a setting... feeling suddenly conscious of all the people surrounding them, weiss’s eyes dart around. she’s used to crowds. she’s used to onlooking eyes. she should feel more vulnerable like this. never before would weiss have such a conversation with so many people around.
ruby’s hands tighten around her own, and pieces click together. perhaps before weiss would have cared, but now, with her partner alongside her, it makes sense. the rose is a blanket of comfort weiss had lacked. the fact that she’s not really bothered ( more surprised, than anything ) is the confirmation she needs. she’s able to relax a bit, returning her full attention back to ruby. per her request, weiss meets her gaze. she’s met with another wave of comfort as her leader speaks.
at first, she feels a bit confused. why is ruby apologizing? weiss gnaws her lip, suddenly feeling guilty. to burden ruby with such worry that she felt the need to say sorry ─ weiss didn’t mean for that. but her feelings of woe don’t last long. it’s silly, but between ruby’s honest words and the hands that link them together, she can practically feel ruby’s emotions and security pass through to her. that’s right... weiss no longer has to worry or fear. she trusts ruby ─ with her life ─ and it’s okay and ruby would never turn away from her. she feels a surge of composure, shoulders squaring up as she gains back her confident poise.
when ruby’s hands leave, weiss feels a pang of emptiness. she’s got half a mind to reach back out for them. it felt... right. ( since when has weiss felt such a sensation? )
❝ ... you’re right, i guess i got carried away. ❞ she admits with a bit of red on her own cheeks, a tint that’s only half due to mild embarrassment leftover from the unexpected confession, ❝ i know you wouldn’t, ruby, and i trust all of you, so much. ❞ she allows herself a moment to humor the picture of fight back against her father. where fear used to lay is now a gaining confidence. of course, a lifetime of being broken down isn’t easy to fix after one conversation, but she feels more hopeful than ever before. ❝ i know.. and i’d do the same for any of you. ❞ she assures, a small smile returning to her features.
she’s a bit surprised to find that qrow’s memories didn’t reach as far as their’s. it brings even more questions, if that’s possible. she’s suddenly grateful and more assured since ruby’s admitted the degree of her memory, glad it’s the same.
❝ ruby? thank you. ❞ she’s smiling, grief and worry replaced by relief and security, ❝ i guess even i need reminders sometimes, ❞ she quips to feel a bit more lighthearted, ❝ i needed that. it’s a lot, but you’re right. with you here, and yang, and blake, i’m glad we’re here together. i couldn’t ask for a better leader or friend. i’m glad you’re here. ❞ a nod is paired to emphasize togetherness. she cups her own coffee now at the mention of it, rolling her eyes in amusement.
❝ how you manage to say something that makes you sound years ahead and then go back to being so you is something i’ll never understand. ❞ she sips her own coffee, affection in her tone. her lips purse soon after, following ruby’s question.
❝ well... no. no glyphs, no aura, no dust. i have myrtenaster, at least. ❞ weiss can’t imagine being without her faithful rapier. now that’s a scary thought to entertain. she breaths easier, taking a moment before speaking up again.
❝ ruby... what about you? ❞ a twinkle of concern in blue hues, ❝ i went off a bit there, and haven’t given you much room to speak. how are you handling this all? i mean, you’ve gotten here first... are you okay? what about... ❞ her voice gets softer, ❝ your wish? ❞

─ a bunkhouse change? in any other scenario, weiss would view this as a pain. she's grown used to her own bunkhouse and her little bed was starting to slowly feel like her own. but when the notice comes, weiss feels nothing akin to annoyance. instead, she's eager for the change ─ it means she can finally share a bunkhouse with someone familiar. while she spends most of her time in one of their bunks outside of sleep anyway, it will be nice to officially occupy the same space and bring more of a homey feel to the area.
it didn't take long for weiss to gather her things into a bag. eagerly, she makes her way to her new bunkhouse, letting herself in. she doesn't have to look around to know who she's ended up with ─ it's a bunkhouse she's visited before and knows well. weiss walks in with a grin, making her way to the bunk belonging to the one and only yang xiao long.
❝ so, is the other half taken? ❞ she voices once within her new roommates range, gesturing to the bed not occupied by her teammate. maybe it's a little silly, but she can't help the feeling of warmth and excitement that accompanies bunking with one of her again.

She doesn’t mean any harm, he has to remind himself— he shouldn’t really jump to being so defensive, even if he doesn’t quite agree with her ( again, he’s not looking to make any enemies here; he’d do good to not take out any annoyance he feels towards her directly ). He’s halfway decent at reading people, so Riku suspects he may be as irritating towards her as she is to him; fair honestly, he knows he’s far from the most pleasant to be around, but takes it as a note to probably tone down a little, he’s not in the mood to fight.
They’re at a little bit of an impasse, he thinks; neither of them seem willing to step down ( as if he’s ever been one to give in— things certainly would be easier if he didn’t insist on being so stubborn, it is what it is ). Begrudgingly, he accepts the gesture from her, though does not make much show for cleaning up; he’d much rather do so back in town, but at this point he’ll do whatever gets her off his case ( loathe as he might be to admit it, Riku would have probably tried to do similar if their situation had been swapped ). “Thanks.” It’s a rather low grumble; as displeased as he may be with the situation, he does have some manners to spare. He’s not that terrible. Maybe.
“Is it really accompaniment if we are both headed in the same direction anyways?” He ignores the look she gives him, beginning his trek back to town. “I don’t see how that is any concern of yours. If I was out here for a reason or not, it makes no difference.” Needing a place to breath and be alone with his thoughts is not something he wishes to talk about with a stranger— he’ll make up an excuse if need be.
─ even when he accepts her offer and takes the clothes, weiss gets the sense that he would really rather not and that his compliance appears only out of the desire to avoid confrontation. she's aware her assumption could be totally wrong, but, if she's right that he's anything like she is, weiss is pretty sure she's relatively close. she purses her lips as he only briefly checks over his wounds but bites back any comments she has. if his acceptance is only meager, it won't do either of them any good to further press the topic, so she refrains from trying. at the very least, she accepts his half-hearted gratitude with a small nod.
❝ perhaps not, ❞ she replies as he begins to walk. weiss follows, keeping pace with him as they trek through the snow, ❝ but what's the harm in traveling in pairs? ❞ she brings up, raising a brow. she figures that perhaps she'd be the same way long ago; not wanting help from a stranger and preferring independence. so she tries to avoid letting it bother her too much. and, when he refuses to supply why he was around here in the first place, she simply responds with a shrug.
❝ that's fair. ❞ she agrees - it really isn't her business and she's not about to be bothered to pry reasoning from him, ❝ well, either way, pardon me for... butting in. ❞ she says with sincerity, ❝ while it appears you're a skilled fighter who knows what he's doing, ❞ her eyes steal a quick glance at his weapon ─ nobody untrained is going to carry something like that around ─, ❝ but i simply can't bring myself to dismiss someone in a worn out state, especially out here. if i were to leave and something happened, it wouldn't be able to call myself a huntress. ❞ she explains even if unprompted, hoping to mediate things, ❝ i assume you wouldn't leave someone out here in such a state? correct me if i'm wrong. ❞

suddenly, her eyes flicker to life & she can’t help but let out a muffled girlish squeal into the palms of her mittens, plumes of white smoke finding their way into the air through the cracks between face & hands like dragon’s smoke. the mere thought of a shopping spree had ruby’s excitement nearly tripled what it had been before, & weiss being the one to suggest such an activity after ruby’s previously failed persuasive attempts to take her for a partner outing only made her smile widen. ‘ awwww, yeah – ice flower shopping spree !! ‘
ruby giggles giddily as she pulls weiss in close by the arm, shoulders bumping as affectionately as they could under such circumstances. ruby beams over towards her partner & there is nothing short of light & life & everything pure held within her gaze, all thanks to the company she has beside her. a rocky start to their relationship had made ruby doubt once whether they would ever see eye-to-eye, or even tolerate each other during the four years they were supposed to spend as teammates back at beacon. looking back, she can’t believe she would ever doubt that weiss would be one of the best friends she could ever ask for in ways that had nothing to do with the person everyone expected her to be. weiss wasn’t the pompous, lofty chime of her last name – she was kind, & gentle. she was a songbird caged for too long by the arms of her patriarchal torment. ruby thinks of the way weiss’ eyes light up when she smiles, & the way she tries to hide laughter behind her hands, wondering how someone could ever pass up an opportunity to know this facet of her beauty.
they’d come a long way since the emerald forest.
before ruby knows it they’ve arrived at the place described, & it’s flooded with the fat, waddling bodies of what she can only assume are penguins. her eyes widen as weiss draws her attention to the creatures. they aren’t exactly what she expected at a glance; their skin was sleeker-looking in comparison to the birds of flight ruby was used to seeing. they almost looked like seals. chubby, waddling seals that stood on two legs & swayed with each step they took. ruby cups one rosied cheek in her left hand & gasps. ‘ oh my gods … they’re so cute. oh, they look like little fat toasted marshmallows. ‘
she briefly tugs on weiss’ arm to try & draw her attention to the babies she sees emerging from between a parent’s legs but finds instead a camera placed into her hand. she fumbles with it for a short moment before truly finding a solid grip, her gaze shifting uneasily to weiss before shifting back to the flock gathering in front of them. ruby nods, then begins carefully venturing closer to get a better view, mindful of her footfalls in the snow.
ruby manages to snap three good photos, as well as a handful of blurry ones with one finger slightly covering the lens, before she turns & motions for weiss to come closer, speaking in a hushed whisper. ‘ weiss, you gotta see ‘em. there’s little babies !! ‘
─ if she's being honest, weiss has to admit that peeking to the side to view ruby's reaction to the wildlife is more assuming and heartwarming than the wildlife itself. and, honestly, it comes as no surprise that the rose is so awe-struck by what she sees. for weiss, growing up in such a cold environment meant sighting animals like these weren't an uncommon event. weiss smiles to herself as silver hues widen in excitement and awe. she feels a sense of pride ─ usually, it's been ruby introducing weiss to simple things she'd missed out on while growing up in such a restrictive household. bunk beds, woodland exploration, hide ‘nd seek… but now, weiss is able to show ruby something new. and even though it's something small, weiss can't help feeling glad she's able to be the one with ruby, experiencing something new that she enjoys so much. she hopes they'll be able to experience lots of more new things together.
weiss chuckles into a fist, doing so quietly as to not draw too much attention, as ruby describes the sight before them with tinted cheeks and a soft expression. it's in a way that's so ruby it brings a joyous feeling within her. suddenly, in that moment, they aren't stuck in unknown land or lost in a world different from their own. it's just them in their own world. worries evaporate and weiss feels the most at home she's felt since arriving. miraculously, her cheeks pull up into a wider smile.
❝ if that's not the most… creative way to describe them, i don't know what is. ❞ weiss muses, the comment full of fondness. as ruby fumbles with the camera, weiss gives her nod of encouragement. she shifts, adjusting and tugging her coat tighter now that both hands are free and shuffles slowly behind her partner as she snags pictures of the small creatures. she looks up as ruby tugs her sleeve. immediately her attention befalls her partner, and then to what her partner directs her to. immediately, weiss's eyes begin to glisten.
❝ oh. my. gods. ❞ she whispers, scooting until she's right beside ruby with her shoulder brushed up to hers, ❝ they are just too cute! i've seen the little ones from afar, but never like this! ❞ the cool and collected weiss schnee loses all formalities as she coos over the baby penguins ( still mindful of her voice level ─ can't startle them off now! ), ❝ and look at how they snuggle up to their parents - they're simply adorable! i don't think i've seen anything this cute since zwei. ❞ this errand is proving to get better and better by the moment. perhaps being here isn't going to be so bad after all.
❝ here, let me take a few this time. i can't have you doing all the work. we can finish our task and then enjoy watching them for a bit. ❞ she suggests with a smile, opening her hands expectantly, though she remains close to ruby.

hunting trip. // tempesse.
event start for @tempesse
{♣} —; So it seems that these creatures were harmful, were they? How delectable. The perfect place for her then was on the frontline, watching up close exactly just how dangerous they were. From what she read in the bestiary, they had the power to stun people, and steal voices as well as their life from them. Quite the interesting concept.
{♣} —; She follows a crowd towards another place—Lelantos’ Grip. An armory of sorts. It has a fitting name. As she goes in, her eye gazes around the room for suitable weapons. Finally she reaches out towards one, grazing someone elses hand as they also reached for it. Oh?
{♣} —; “Grabbing another just in case you get disarmed, hm?” she asks, noting the beautifully crafted weapon. “If you want it, you can take it, though I’m quite surprised to find so many young people march towards danger. Are you all so eager to face Hel herself already?”
─ while she doesn't plan on starting too far from the town's edge without her team at her side, weiss doesn't see any harm in scouting around the outskirts and assuring the safety of villagers who may not have the skill to defend themselves; perhaps find someone in need of an escort.
she decides to stop by the armory first to prepare. her own rapier is powerful on it's own, but by her leader's idea, she doesn't want to risk damaging it too badly until she's confident enough in slaying the beasts that threaten the town. she's browsing, so caught up in strategic planning that she doesn't notice the other person with interest in the very same weapon as she. weiss blinks, looking up and acknowledging the person with a small shrug.
❝ you shouldn't underestimate someone because of their age. ❞ she states, recalling a time when she had done just the same, ❝ these won't be the first monsters i've slain. ❞ weiss adds but soon realizes how sharp she sounded and clears her throat.
❝ only if you're sure… ❞ she replies, softer this time, ❝ i can find something else. it's always better to be a little more prepared, rather than find yourself in the middle of a fight and lacking proper resources… or weaponry. ❞ weiss explains her need for another weapon - she can see why someone would find it odd to take another when she's already got a perfectly good rapier on her waist.
❝ you must be an experienced fighter yourself? since you're also heading towards the danger. ❞

eyebrows raise and a hand remains placed on her own hip, Weiss’ tone is more than welcome, and so is Weiss too of course. the ex-heiress always knew how to put a smirk on Blake’s face, the majority of the conversations being filled with wit and quips, it was nice to just have a casual meeting.
“ i hope this place gave you a warmer welcome, anyway - “ despite the tone of humor, it’s a genuine statement. vaguely aware of Weiss’ predicament back in a place she’s meant to call home … it’s enough for Blake’s ears to flatten against her head.
“ huh? “ a quick glance down and she realises that, yeah, she should probably be better equipped for the weather - but alas, it seemed to be the least of her worries here. “ oh right - well, Weiss Schnee “ she turns on her heel, glancing backwards to the Schnee with an expectant grin “ would you care to join me on a coat hunt? you have a good eye for these things “
before Weiss can agree or disagree, Blake is already off again. trudging through the snow, arms folded. “ oh and yeah … i’m very new here. have you seen the others yet? “
─ weiss can't help but smile. the circumstances surrounding the ‘ how ' and ‘ why ’ they're all here are still a huge mystery and a bit worrisome but, despite that, she feels increasingly happy upon seeing another face from their team ─ her family. at least if they're stranded out here, they're stranded together.
❝ well, if you omit the fact that we have absolutely no idea where ‘ here ' is, then yes. ❞ she replies back lightheartedly and with a small smile ; there's no negativity in her tone. she does catch the slight shift in blake's demeanor but brushes it off. if something is bothering her teammate ( outside of their current predicament ), weiss trusts blake to bring it up. her expression quickly shifts to excitement as blake turns towards the buildings with the proposal of finding her warmer wear. immediately, weiss knows just where to take her.
❝ of course, ❞ she chimes, skipping to blake's side, ❝ it would be my honor. ❞ she adds. before taking off in the direction of their destination, weiss pauses and latches onto blake's arm, hugging her softly. ❝ i'm glad you're here, safe. ❞ she breathes, resting her head against blake's forearm for a brief moment. first ruby, now blake. she's beginning to think things will work out with them here.
❝ alright, onto our main task. i know the perfect place to get you a coat. the owner was kind enough to give me some for ruby and i, so we'll get you one there too. and I'll show you were we can get some warm drinks, as well. ❞ she's quite proud of herself for knowing where to go ─ though, it’s mostly thanks to ruby.
❝ speaking of ─ yes, ruby is here too. i’m sure you’ll find her soon enough, and if not, we’ll arrange it. i haven’t been here too long myself, either... ❞ she sighs, watching the puff of breath against the cold air, ❝ this place is quite strange, isn’t it? we definitely have a lot to figure out. but, at least we’re together, right? ❞

“ … miss schnee. “
“ hello. “
he remembers a time, long long ago, where he had loomed over her, him playing the role of a headmaster and she as a student, with him laying out dominos not so that weiss could topple them over– rather, for her to craft her own foundation. the girl was a brilliant, eager soul, crippled by a pressing anxiety that carried her father’s voice and her name’s burden.
she’s so much more than that though, if that wasn’t already obvious at how she stared down at him, so much more confident, so much more powerful. ozpin sighs, remembering her horrified, betrayed look when the truth had come to light, when everyone had found that the role of headmaster had simply been a guise to hide that the wizard was truly, at his core, a liar.
the girl has every right to avoid him, to reject him entirely and leave ( something that he would gladly embrace, if only for the fact that he was a self-depreciating fool ), but with the mask of a child, he would rather not be confused with his much more innocent, much better counterpart.
“ i… apologize. for startling you. “ he starts, unsure, uneasy. i was worried that you were going to say a much different name. “ i suppose it was just enlightening to see another familiar face. “
“ when did you arrive here? “
( @tempesse, this might not end well. )
─ white tresses sway and follow as weiss's head spins upon hearing her name. no, her family name. the voice is familiar in a way that twists her gut with a multitude of mixed emotions. she looks downwards. despite having oscar's face, she knows from the way he addresses her that the mind occupying body is none other than headmaster ozpin himself.
her lips purse but her eyes soften slightly. conflicting feelings eat away at her mind and emotions. he's their headmaster who guided them and set out their stepping stones to become the best huntresses they could be ; the headmaster who, despite rejection and facing their anger, kept watch over them and came through when they had needed it the most.
( but he's also the headmaster who was going to lead them into a battle he knew couldn't be won. )
her shoulders stiffen and her hands ball into fists at her sides.
❝ its…. fine, professor ozpin. ❞ she hangs on the name, as if unsure which formalities to address him by. there's a hint of malice to her tone, too, still feeling the sting of betrayal from one of the few adults she thought she could trust. and yet... she can't find it in herself to despise him. she inhales.
❝ it hasn't been too long since i’ve been here. ❞ she answers plainly, now making an active effort to keep her tone neutral. for what it's worth, they're both stuck in the same situation. unless, of course, this is also a secret the headmaster has been keeping. but weiss is sure that something like this is far out of his power… right?
❝ what made you finally decide to join us? ❞ she speaks suddenly on impulse, under the influence of confusion, hurt, and more subtly: fear. she realizes quickly the bitterness in her tone and draws in a breath to compose herself. she gnaws her lower lip, regretting talking back like that to her superior ─ even if he had led them astray. ❝ ... sorry. rather, it's been quite some time… i’m glad to know you’re okay. really, i am. ❞ she looks up this time, hoping her honesty conveys through her eyes. she hesitates again, feeling overly cautious about her next set of words. ❝ is... oscar..? ❞
weiss draws in another breath, letting her shoulders relax. she figures that changing the subject is a good start. ❝ what about you? do you know anything about this place? i didn’t think something like this was possible... ❞

embarrassment aside of almost mistaking weiss for her older sister, this time yang is 100% certain that this is, in fact, her teammate. she looks cozy, as if she truly belonged in this frosty scenario; this isn’t a surprise, though. what strikes her is the fact that she’s here. all of team rwby is here, & though this greatly eases her mind about their whereabouts, it also makes her wonder: why ?
all this wondering certainly can and will wait for a more appropriate time. for she’s totally going behind weiss for a dirty sneaky attack that, mind you, would’ve worked just fine if she hadn’t slipped and grabbed onto the other to soften her fall. yeah, there they go right into the snow. way to go yang.
‘ gee, swear i’m trying real hard to come up with a falling down pun, ’ yang laughs, already getting on her feet before quickly & effortlessly helping weiss up. oh no, is there a punchline coming up? dropping by? oh dear–‘ i’m just so happy to see you, weiss. ’ not this time. the lack of a pun might’ve been a shock, but that warm hug from yang is certain to happen; it has to, specially after she’s learned how her teammate is such a hugger.
─ ❝ hey -! ❞ weiss releases a sharp cry of surprise as, suddenly, she goes from viewing the scenery before her to looking up at the sky. her arms flail out helplessly, reaching for something - anything - to latch onto but finding nothing. she sputters as her body meets the ground, thanking the gods that snow cushions her fall. well, that, and whoever dragged her down with them.
with her brows furrowed, weiss immediately moves up into a sit, lips parted and ready to chide whoever could be so careless as to trip and drag another unsuspecting individual down with them. she twists her body to face them and, immediately, any words she had catch in her throat.
she's so stunned that she doesn't even bother getting up right away, instead letting yang's voice reach her ears. a smile weaves into weiss's expression as joy becomes her. yang's sincerity is warm and her presence, just as it always has, is securing and comforting.
weiss lets herself be pulled up by her teammate and immediately moves forward to wrap her arms around yang's torso. its not as dramatic as their past reunion, but still full of the same love nonetheless.
❝ oh, yang, i’m so happy you're here… ❞ she utters out, giving her teammate a tight squeeze before pulling back and looking up into purple hues, ❝ did it, uh, ❞ she squints away tears that threaten to fall, trying desperately to remember the joke she recalls from long ago… ah, that's right.
❝ did it hurt when you fell from the sky? ❞
she's grinning now. nailed it.

ruby doesn’t find her behavior to be particularly far-fetched. she’d grown up on an island — navigational capabilities were a must have from a very young age, especially for a family living so far from any main landmarks & closer to the island’s center, encased by trees to protect them from the winds which roared across the sea relentlessly. it’s a bit like riding a bike, finding her way around this village. the layout might be different, but the practice is committed to memory.
ruby leaves her partner to fetch mugs brimming with warm coffee, freshly brewed. within her own a plethora of sugar & cream is dumped, turning the dark brew into a soft beige color. weiss’, however, held only two sugars & a dash of cream. a rich darkness swirled within. she realizes on her own here that she’s never asked weiss how exactly she enjoys her coffee, & the rose winces quietly to herself while she stirs the brew, hoping it’s to her partner’s liking before she returns with two steaming mugs in hand.
ruby chuckles sheepishly as she slides into her side of the booth & sets weiss’ cup before her. ‘ funny —— you know how i like my coffee, but … you never told me how you take yours. i hope it’s okay. i promise it doesn’t have a lot of sugar ! ‘
she watches weiss over the top of her own mug as she sips gingerly at the coffee, careful not to burn her tongue right away. her eyes shine with a gentle bit of curiosity, & suddenly she worries that two sugars might have been too sweet, even for weiss. her fingers drum an erratic pattern across the tabletop before she hastily answers, distracting herself.
‘ hah — ! well, it’s not too different from where i grew up, actually, ‘ she murmurs, her eyes rolling away from weiss & across the room towards a gathering of empty stools. ‘ our house was way in the middle of the island with not a whole lot of things around except the forest, so i kinda learned how to look for landmarks to get back home. i guess i’ve been doing the same around here. after a few months, it gets pretty easy. ‘ ruby supposes that should answer at least one of her partner’s queries.
weiss’ flurry of questions draws an audible sigh from her lungs, & her head once again lolls ‘round in a semi-circle until her gaze returns to the steam rising from her mug. she blows a stream of air across the surface of her coffee & watches the ripples fan out across it, watches the way the line of steam is bisected, upper half fading into the air while the bottom half compensates by making itself longer.
‘ honestly, ‘ she begins. ‘ after everything we’ve learned back home — about the relics, & the maidens, & salem — i don’t know what we can believe, or even what’s real & what isn’t, anymore. ‘
her fingers curl against the tabletop. ‘ but i know something brought us here. i’ve tried asking around with some of the villagers, but … all of them say it’s something to do with a goddess here. diaidem. ‘ she says the name like a chime of bells. the clinking of glass. ‘ the people here say she grants wishes. & —— it seems like we had wishes strong enough to bring us here. i just can’t figure out why. why here ? & why now, of all times ? ‘
ruby worries her lip between her pointed canine, her brows furrowing as she tries to search her beverage for an answer she knows it doesn’t have. ‘ weiss … what’s the last thing you remember before you woke up here ? ‘
─ she absentmindedly finds herself watching ruby as she moves about the tavern and gathers the mugs and coffee. she finds a small smirk playing onto her lips; this is the first time it’s been ruby preparing the drinks. when she’s presented her drink and assured it’s safe, weiss allows a tiny laugh to part from her lips, ❝ looks like you’ve read my mind, ruby. are you sure your speed semblance didn’t originate from the copious amount of sugar and caffeine you put in yourself? ❞ she jokes, blowing away the steam and taking a sip. after a moment, weiss nods her approval and gives ruby an appreciate, grateful smile.
she grasps the mug ─ not too tightly ─ as she listens to the insight into ruby’s childhood and the reason she’s skilled with directions. it does makes sense, but weiss’s lips purse into a line. have they really not discussed childhood in detail..? she figures not, as it’s never been brought up beyond major points in their lives. she’s not sure why but... it’s almost a little sad. weiss makes a mental note to make more of an effort to learn all she can about ruby ─ and her other friends, as well.
the topic shifts to the more pressing matters ─ those surrounding the world itself and how they arrived. weiss’s eyes shift downwards to her coffee and her vision un-focuses as she clings to ruby’s words, processing it all. diaidem. wishes. it all seems ridiculous. but ruby’s point is firm ─ how’s far-fetched is it really, in comparison to the relics? jinn? salem, a deity with no known means of defeat? wishes, wishes wishes.... was it really possible...?
ruby’s final question catches her off-guard. it makes sense and, honestly, weiss is wondering the same for ruby. but it twists her stomach with a wave of anxiety all the same ─ thoughts and memories are muddled at best, except...
❝ i... ❞ she starts with a hint of hesitance, ❝ we were on the airship. we had finally made it to atlas after everything we’d gone through. ozpin was still gone, we had the relic, but no more answers than we did before. and i remember... the atlas military. ❞ her grip tightens around her mug. weiss hardly notices the burning sensation that has her hands in protest. she inhales, considering her next words carefully. she’d already tried to avoid thinking on it too much; every time she had tried to sort out her thoughts thus far ended in a sense of despair, feeling lost and on top of everything else: guilty. every time she thinks about it and tries to sort things out, it seems to get more and more ridiculous.
but if there’s anyone she can talk to about it ─ it’s ruby. she realizes she’s gone silent, taken by her own thoughts. she takes in a breath to steady herself and looks back up to ruby, ready to continue.
❝ i remember being furious. furious that my father would go to such lengths to hinder us. i remember wanting to scream, to march right up to him and face him myself. ❞ before she knows it, weiss is confessing to ruby all of her worries. it’s a vulnerable feeling, a side she wouldn’t dare show to just anyone, ❝ i remember being afraid. afraid i might... get taken away from you all, for good. i trust you ─ and yang, blake ─ with my life, but we weren’t exactly in top shape after everything that had happened. and if he really wanted to, well... i wouldn’t have ever forgiven myself if any of you got hurt on my behalf.
and i remember wishing. i wanted so, so desperately to just get away from it all. the relics, atlas, salem, remnant. i wished to be somewhere safe, where we could all just be normal. ❞ emotion slips into her words. her brows pinch together, as if she’s angry with herself for not being able to keep herself composed. a few more moments of silence follow. she finally releases her grip on her mug, wincing at the feeling in her hands. suddenly she lets out a breathy, unsteady laugh.
❝ ... i’m sorry. after that, i don’t really remember too much, other than waking up here. it sounds really ridiculous saying it out loud, huh? ❞ her shoulders slump, body releasing a tension formed subconsciously. ❝ i haven’t really gotten to talk to anyone about it yet, mostly because none of it made any sense. even now, telling you, i still can’t.. wrap my mind around it. ❞ she sighs, a defeated, deflated noise.
❝ ... sorry, ❞ she repeats, ❝ it’s not much of an answer, i know. i don’t know what to think. ❞ she pauses to take a sip of her coffee once more, setting it down to the side. ❝ ruby, do you really think this place grants wishes? ❞ the same question, she realizes too late, ❝ surely not. i just... i feel like i’m going crazy. ❞

Oof. That’s not the warmest welcome, but the bird doesn’t exactly blame her. Wasn’t her first impression of him that one time he fought her elder sister in the courtyard at Beacon? Fun times. Fun times. Plus it’s not like they’ve had a lot of one on one talks- especially since the farm. Now *that* makes him wince. Time to think about something else before he gets thirsty.
“Huh. You helping out too?” That’s fair. Plenty of stuff around here needed fixing, what with all the new faces. He gives the items a once over before nodding. “Oh yeah. We need that stuff over there to fix the wheels. I’ll get started on it in a bit, if the boss doesn’t get to it first. Go ahead and set it down.”
Red eyes catch her gaze falling back down to her weapon. Plenty of reason to be concerned about that stuff, he supposes, especially with her fighting style and specialties. Too bad the news he has to give, as always, isn’t the greatest.
“Unfortunately, I haven’t seen much that’s comparable to dust, not yet anyway,” Qrow sighs with a shrug, setting down the set of wooden gears he’d been fiddling with, “Asked after it all myself, but got told that alchemy might help- might not. Haven’t gotten around to checking all that out.” Not that the huntsman would be exactly comfortable trying to mess with it, sounds a bit too complex in the wrong ways personally- and like magic.
There’s a small laugh at her observation, the sound of it leaning more towards self-depreciation than mocking the speaker. “Yeah well, Ruby had to learn how to build a scythe before fighting with one. I just so happened to be able to teach her both.” He turns and grabs harbinger from behind him to place it on his lap. “And I didn’t exactly go to school for it, but in the tribe you still had to learn to make your own weapon- just uh with less ‘supervision’ and ‘guidance’.” In his case practically none, but that’s fine because it freed him up to be ambitious with it. “Not to brag, but Harbinger here is a sword and a double-barreled shotgun and a scythe.”
Okay, he’s bragging just a little, but it is something he’s genuinely proud of. Semblance or not, he made it and it works- or used to.
“Well, right now it’s… stuck, somehow.” His hand waves dismissively. “Eh. I’ll figure it out eventually. And anyway, this job is more fixing things around the village than just weapon crafting.”
─ she gazes onward, the brief periods of silence making the air feel heavy and, while not necessarily uncomfortable, awkward. come to think of it, she’s never really been able to talk to qrow on his own or away from the chaos of relic business, anyway. her eyes narrow a bit, recalling their first encounter and the journey that followed once they met in mistral. qrow ─ ruby and yang’s mostly drunk uncle. a huntsman with notable skills ( as much as she hates to admit ) but nasty habits.
for a second, eyes fall to his belt only to note the missing flash. it piques her interest, but she’s not about to say anything about it.
her attention is brought back to the present as qrow begins to instruct her on where to place the items she’d gathered. weiss complies, silently and neatly setting them on the counter. she refocuses on qrow, almost surprised to see him so... focused on the task at hand. her opinion on him definitely isn’t nearly as bad as her initial opinion, and he’s a skilled fighter, she’ll give him that much. but... anything more, she can’t quite say much of.
she decides refocus on the current topic of their weapons and listens intently. it figures that he ─ and probably ruby, too ─ would be concerned over their weapons and lack of proper ammunition or dust. and then he’s on a more detailed tangent about his weapon and, much to even’s weiss’s surprise, she’s... impressed. there’s no denying how much work went into both of the scythe wielder's weapons ─ weiss had just never really thought about qrow building them before.
maybe she should start giving the guy more credit.
❝ figures. i didn’t have too much hope ─ things are never that easy. ❞ she isn’t surprised when her dust theory is out the window already, but it didn’t hurt to inquire about it. her eyes move to qrow’s scythe ─ harbinger. the news that it’s stuck is... mildly amusing.
❝ i guess i never saw you as a craftsman type. ❞ she admits, ❝ it reminds me of the kind of tech you’d see in atlas, even if your methods probably weren’t as orderly. i can only image the trial and error that took. ❞ it’s very subtle, but it’s weiss’s own attempt at some humor. even if their encounters haven’t been the most pleasant, this is yang and ruby’s cherished uncle.
❝ it appears as if your harbinger isn’t except to this world’s mysterious power. ❞ she looks down to myrtenaster at her hip ─ just an ordinary rapier without any dust to power it. ❝ alright, then. what’s next on the agenda? these apprenticeships don’t seem to strict on what we do, so i figure i’ll do so here, since i’m here already. ❞ she says after a moment of silence, returning her gaze to qrow. a peace offering, of sorts. starting from square one.
❝ if you need extra hands, of course. ❞

@tempesse !!
Out of the few places that he’s visited so far, none of them really speak to him very much. Despite the fact that he’s been to so many worlds in his young life, for some reason, now more than ever, he feels…a little homesick. Never being a big fan of cold climates, and not knowing many cold climates, this place doesn’t exactly feel the most welcoming to him. Not to mention his friends aren’t with him. But hey, that never stopped him in the past. Maybe if he’s lucky, he’ll make the most of his time here. After all, it doesn’t seem like there’s anyway out, at least for quite a while.
And another thing, ever since arriving, he’d noticed that for what feels like the millionth time, he is mostly powerless. In front of his friends, he tries to pass this off as no big deal, but the feeling of being powerless eats away at him. More than he can say out loud, being able to do nothing is so frustrating. Despite what Riku had said to him in the past, he can’t help but feel weak without having friends by his side.
Wanting to find some place to think for a while, one of the places that sounds appealing to him is known simply as The Docks. Finally, a place with some water. Maybe the sound of the water gently flowing will help put his mind at ease, while also at least a little bit, easing that feeling of homesickness. With that in mind, he takes off immediately.
When he finally reaches The Docks, he takes a seat on the first empty bench he finds, leaning back a little while placing his hands behind his head. While the scenery of the world certainly pales in comparison to the Destiny Islands, there was something at least…kind of calming about being near the water.
Without even thinking, almost as if his body is moving on it’s own, he extends his hand forward as his Keyblade manifests in his hand.
“I know it shouldn’t bother me, but I guess it’s back to square one again, huh? I feel so…out of the loop. I wonder how everyone else is doing.”
─ more often than not, weiss finds herself spending a lot of her free time wandering the new land that she’s been brought to for an indefinite amount of time and for no logical explanation beyond the success of a single wish. the idea still boggles her mind and every time weiss attempts to connect anything together into something that makes even the least bit on sense, she only feels more confused and lost than before. and so, not being one to do nothing, weiss takes to learning as much as she can about how this place works. she may as well adapt, if nothing else.
she ends up near the water this time ─ well, the large body of water that isn’t frozen. she can’t help but wonder if there’s land beyond the sea. logically, there must be something else out there. then again, weiss knows little of this world and how big it is. for all she knows, this could be the only inhabitable land within distance.
the thought is almost terrifying.
weiss shakes it away. she turns and begins to walk slowly along the water’s edge. the docks might be nice to look around, she figures, and seeing how the villagers gather resources might be of some use. gaining that knowledge would be much better than spending time worrying and wondering what lies beyond, anyway. but the huntress doesn’t make it far before she happens upon another person. usually, she’d take no mind to others and be on her way. but when the kid is able to conjure a strange artifact she’s never seen before out of thin air, her curiosity drives her in closer.
she feels a pang of sadness overhearing his words. it’s all too relatable of a feeling. maybe it’s wrong of her to listen in, but it wasn’t done with any malicious intent. she doesn’t think too much on it, acting purely on impulse when she approaches the boy.
❝ i don’t think you’re wrong to have that bother you. ❞ she interjects, ❝ is it really odd to worry about those we care about? ❞ weiss asks, head tipping to the side and a kind smile gracing her features. she realizes that she could be wrong to inject herself into conversation, and her hands move to grasp each other behind her back.
❝ er ─ sorry, i couldn’t help but overhear you as i was passing by. hopefully i haven’t disturbed you. i presume we’re in similar situations, it doesn’t appear to be an uncommon thing around here. ❞

for a moment she recalls the first meeting she’d ever had with weiss back when their semester had only just begun – the distasteful insults & an accidental explosion covering them both head-to-toe in soot. she’s lucky that blast hadn’t singed off their eyebrows. at the time she’d even been bashful about recalling their meeting but now it makes her laugh & warmth pools into her chest seeing just how far their friendship has come in such a short amount of time, though it felt like eons ago they were bickering like a married couple. ruby can’t help but roll her eyes while weiss isn’t looking. ‘ you don’t have to spoil me every time we need new clothes, weiss. plus – i dunno if this place would even know what lien is. … honestly, i haven’t seen anyone use money here at all. ‘
ruby smiles at just how determined weiss is to stick together, feeling the bond of their team flare up like a hungry flame in her soul, though only seconds later it flickers & dims considerably, as does her smile. she knows what weiss is going to ask; how long she’s been here in comparison, & ruby can’t say she knows numerically off the top of her head, but it’s been long enough to let the open wound of her loneliness fester. her eyes dart away from weiss’ own as the question hangs in the air unfinished. she raises a hand up to her chest, clenches it into a loose fist above her heart as if to give a visual representation of how she’s felt all this time without her partner by her side.
much like a touch-starved puppy, ruby leans into the touch of weiss’ hand against her hair, nudging her palm with her forehead, the pathetic sadness clouding her eyes still as she hesitantly looks up to her partner, a shred of vulnerability visible now that she’s found this familiar comfort again. ruby musters up a chuckle & sniffs, attempting to blink away the unshed tears in her eyes. ‘ yeah, ‘ ruby murmurs. ‘ i don’t think you’ll have a heart attack this time, though. i haven’t been able to find enough rope to attach my bed to the ceiling yet. ‘ she says yet like it’s a promise, an inevitability that she will test the laws of physics & gravity again.
ruby reaches down to claim her bundle of firewood, then makes a show of lacing her fingers with weiss’ own before they set out for the tavern. ‘ this way, ‘ she motions with a nod of her head as well as the swing of her wood bundle in a northeastern direction, towards a bright cluster of lights in the distance & the vague shadows of humanoid figures bustling through the city, busy with their own errands to perform around eidolon’s vast expanse. some are consumed by the cleanup following the rekindling, while others are gathering supplies for their own homes, & some are merely exploring.
ruby guides them into the tavern with the ease of a seasoned navigator, pushes through the heavy wooden door & lets in a giant gust of wind & snow that makes all the other patrons groan & mumble curses in protest before she’s able to shut it behind them. she stamps her boots against the floor in an effort to dislodge chunks of snow from her soles before beginning to guide weiss to a booth towards the outskirts of the tavern. luckily there are many of them unoccupied, & ruby selects one in the far corner for them to sit at.
she huffs a breath & shivers as she feels the tingle of warmth starting to envelop her form, feeling returning into her fingers & toes the longer they remain in the heat of the tavern. she sets her bundle of kindling along with her weapon beside the booth before nudging weiss’ elbow with her own.
‘ i’ll get us some mugs to use. then we can talk. ‘
─ she’s got the sudden urge to wrap her friend in another hug after feeling more warmth swell throughout her chest as ruby’s laughter chimes throughout the clearing. it’s a familiar, comforting sound ─ weiss can’t believe there was a time when she considered such joy as childish ─ that makes her feel more at home than anyone in her blood family could make her feel ( aside from winter, maybe ). it draws out her own laughter, ❝ i’m sure we can figure something out, together, lien or no lien. ❞ she nods, confident in her statement. either way, she makes a silent promise to find some way to keep the rose warm.
a flicker of concern showcases itself once across blue hues as silence befalls. she notices the change of expression following her question and weiss immediately regrets asking ─ gods, she still really needs to think about what she says ─ and ruining the happy reunion. her mouth opens to voice an apology, but ruby doesn’t press, and weiss figures it’s best to drop the topic until they find somewhere more comfortable to catch up. instead, a smaller smile tugs at the corner of her lips when ruby mentions her famous floating bed. but she’s not worried ─ in fact, weiss almost feels a bit sad that she no longer shares a room with her partner. it feels... wrong. she wonders how easy it would be to get a bunkhouse change...
regardless. there’s no time to wallow in more concerns! weiss is glad to follow ruby’s lead once more, even if it’s just back to the city and to the tavern. it’s a simple walk through the town ( though, weiss is ashamed to admit, it might be more difficult for someone of her ... directional impairments ). she can’t help but cast sideways glances to ruby, admiring how easily she traverses the new territory. if weiss hadn’t known any better, she’d think ruby had been here long before she ─
( she doesn’t entertain this thought for long. )
once their destination is within view, weiss feels herself relax a bit. she’s passed by this place before but never found reason to enter. not alone. she follows ruby’s lead, though the removal of snow from her boots is a bit more graceful. she casts a brief, warning glare to the audible complainers sounding off like birds as the door opens ─ what else do you expect in a place like this? ─ but remains silent as she discards her portion of the wood and follows ruby to the table. she wants to take ruby’s hand once more, the irrational fear that her partner will be separated from her once more etching it’s way into her mind, but sits herself at the table and waits for their drinks to arrive.
she absentmindedly circles the rim of the mug with her finger, mind wandering briefly. she’s happy, of course she’s absolutely elated. she’s not alone ─ wherever she’s ended up, ruby’s here too. but she worries ─ how long has ruby been here? what of remnant? why are they here? and was it really due to that one silly, selfish desire? weiss sucks in a breath, forming a small, albeit sheepish, smile and she returns her attention to ruby.
❝ you.. really know your way around here, huh? ❞ she muses, ❝ i’m really, really happy to see you... but how long have you been here? and... do you really think we were all brought here because of some ‘ wish ’ ? i know we’ve seen a lot of weird things lately, but... ❞ yeah, a big lady floating from a lamp with all the knowledge in the world? maybe wishes coming true isn’t too far-fetched. ❝ do you really think it’s possible? ❞

It becomes exhausting at a certain point — for what reasons, she’s unsure. Unfamiliar faces surrounded her, dominating the snowy landscape for the most part. Constantly, it pushed her to give up hope on searching for those familiar to her. Besides, there was nothing she could actively do. Winter could only hope that they were safe at home as she continued on her trek through the snow.
She has always been on her lonesome: a price she rightfully has to pay, for leaving behind her home and her siblings so selfishly. No one could foresee that freedom also brought with it a sort of loneliness, one that was different from the isolation.
But this quest for independence, it does not end at her escape from the Schnee household. No, it continues, ever strongly she hopes — with her dear little sister. Yet, so far away was she, and for much too long. Could she call herself worthy of being the eldest, having been completely useless when she heard of the crises Weiss had faced?
Her heeled boots crunch the snow beneath her feet, fists clenched in frustration. And here she was, miles away once again — doing the same thing. Unable to do anything. Unable to help.
Then suddenly, as if her thoughts had summoned her out of thin air, Winter hears her small voice. Her heart stops as she turns around, wary that her mind was playing tricks on her.
But it wasn’t.
“Weiss!” Her things drop to the ground. The woman scurries over and at last, her arms wrap tightly around the girl. “Weiss, I-I’ve missed you so much..! I’m sorry that I wasn’t there for you. You had me worried sick.”
─ there are a plethora of emotions, worries, and questions alike that race through weiss’s head as her sister turns around. it almost feels like it happens in slow motion ─ as if the falling snow begins to steady and winter’s figure spins towards her with as much grace as power ─ as her cherished, elder sister’s eyes turn to finally meet her own. it’s in that instance that the world stops ( not as literally as when ruby summoned jinn, of course ). weiss’s breath catches in her throat and her feelings become neutral as she awaits winter’s reaction.
not even seconds pass by ( though it feels like an eternity ) before she hears her name fall from her sister’s lips, and the world resumes in an instant.
❝ winter! ❞ weiss calls out once more, though the latter half falls as weiss launches herself to meet winter’s embrace. the younger all but buries herself into her sister, weiss’s arms securing around winter as if letting go meant losing her once more. and, in that moment, weiss silently ridicules herself for ever thinking a reunion with winter would go any other way.
winter had always been her security ─ the only one left with weiss’s blood that she would truly call family. to see winter rush towards her ─ dropping her things in the process ─ reminds weiss just how sacred their relationship is. without onlooking, familial eyes or higher up’s to worry about, they can finally relinquish formalities ; weiss allows tears of joy to pool at the corners of her eyes.
❝ y - you’re sorry? ❞ she manages, ❝ winter, i... i know you were busy and you couldn’t have possibly known... i don’t blame you at all. ❞ ah, that’s right ─ weiss has absolutely no idea how much her sisters knows of what became of her after her escape. for all she knows, their father could have fed winter absolutely awful lies. she composes herself, pulling away just enough to be able to look up to meet winter’s gaze.
❝ i tried coming to find you in mistral, but, so much happened and i.. ❞ she fumbles with her words, not knowing where to begin or what to cover.. weiss shakes her head a bit and wipes away some stray tears before a smile becomes her.
❝ winter, i missed you so much. i’m so glad you’re here. i don’t know what i would have done if.. ❞ if i never saw you again ─ ❝ i’m sorry i worried you so much.. but i’m okay, really, i am. even better, actually, with my sister here. ❞ more tears fall, but they couldn’t be any further from sadness. ❝ are you okay? how long has it been since you got here? ❞

scythewielding:
the weight of a foreign scythe sat across her palms is strange in comparison to the gigantic contraption that had found its way along with her during this journey into eidolon’s great white. there’s no even distribution of weight along its length, blade end ever so slightly tipping towards the ground the moment she allows it to simply balance. it’s a bit frustrating to rely on something she hasn’t completely taken apart & built up to her own specifications, but the risk of damaging her own weapon on the clusters of gemstones sprouting from the forms of these ‘ whistles ‘ & having no proper materials to fix any major cracks or chips in her blade made ruby hesitant to leave without some throwaway weapon to lean her weight on instead, crescent rose taking the back seat in case of an emergency.
( somehow, her mouth feels dirty when she spits the notion of any weapon being a throwaway. )
‘ alright, team, ‘ she starts, turning from the entry to weiss’ bunkhouse & back towards the three remaining members of her team. ruby feels warmth swell in her chest seeing them all united again, odd as the circumstances may be. her voice rings firm across the room, unwavering as her hands grip ‘round the wooden staff of the scythe provided by eidolon’s armory. another weapon gleams at her right hip; a short sword replacing the relic’s usual spot on her belt. she’s entrusted the relic to a box beneath her own bunk during their outing past village borders, though hiding the thing isn’t any more a preventative measure than just leaving it on top of the bed. in its inert state, no one would be able to use the power should they even try. old habits die hard, evidently.
‘ there are villagers already scouting out the area outside the village for whistles, but there’s only so much they can do on their own. i know all of us don’t have our weapons or our powers, but we have combat experience a lot of the people here might not have, & i think it’s safer for them to help here & reinforce the border.
‘ weiss, you & i will lead us through the forest. we can take down whatever comes at us from the front while blake keeps a watch behind us. your hearing’s better than all of ours. ‘ she smiles towards blake before turning towards her elder sibling. ‘ yang, hold up the end with blake & take down any trouble whistles that weiss & i can’t get in one go. even if you don’t have your gauntlet ammo, you’ve still got the strength to knock ‘em back. ‘
ruby balances the armory scythe against her left shoulder, standing triumphantly before her team, the epitome of confidence. ‘ everyone good to go ? ‘

─ the whole thing came as such a surprise but, when she really thinks about it, their limited knowledge of this world would have no way of preparing any of them for the events that had recently transpired. perhaps they should feel even more at home ─ after all, they finally had monsters to slay again. but weiss can’t shake the feeling of unease; there’s no denying that everyone’s feeling the nakedness of being stripped clean of abilities they’d been borne and raised on.
was that going to stop them? absolutely not.
it takes one look at her team coming together once more to relieve weiss of most of her worries. ruby, yang, blake... she’s filled with a sudden surge of joy and familiarity. the situation may be grim and risky but they’re facing it together, as team rwby. and when ruby begins to address them as such, weiss has to remind herself that the circumstances render a smile inappropriate. subconsciously, weiss extends a hand to grip her own weapon ─ it was ruby’s idea to substitute crescent rose and myrtenaster for the weapons provided by the town ( ah ─ just when did ruby’s line of thought surpass her own? pity the fools that ever underestimate the rose ).
she’s silent as ruby speaks, diligently listening. admittedly, she’s feeling a bit awe-struck. of course it wasn’t too long ago that ruby had led their team to victory against a plethora of major hurtles, but weiss can’t help the feeling of captivation as their leader instructs them with such detail to their current limitations, strengths, and the unknowns.
weiss can’t think of anyone better suited to lead her.
briefly, her eyes flicker to yang and blake ─ they lack usage of their weapons altogether. part of her worries for them but she knows that, whatever may be going through their minds, neither would appreciate being doted on. and besides ─ weiss knows they’re both more than capable of holding their own with substitute weapons. she feels a bit silly for fretting in the first place. individually, they were each a recognizable force, even without their aura and semblances. together? they could take on a storm.
her attention returns to ruby as she wraps up her speech and, against her earlier aversions, weiss smiles.
❝ you never cease to amaze, do you? ❞ she praises, genuinely, ❝ i think this is the most prepared we’ve been in a while. and, well, whatever’s out there, i’m sure it can’t be much worse than the things we’ve faced thus far ─ ❞ she decides it’s best to not name specifics, ❝ and besides, we’re all together again. i’d rather face these threats together than face nothing apart. ❞ weiss admits, as bad as it may seem to hope for trouble... she’s confident they can face it. together.
she steps forward, taking her place at ruby’s side and turning to face her, then blake and yang. her smile remains.
❝ with you three? i’m always ready. ❞

@tempesse !!
“ - Someone is dressed appropriately. “
you think it would be difficult to try and spot white against … well white. But Blake has developed a talent for stumbling into her friends, new and old, whether intentionally or not. After all, Ruby was here … that meant the W(eiss) was not going to be far behind.
arms folded and amber hues cast a glance to the ex-heiress, it feels like it’s been way too long since Blake had seen any of her team, but it simultaneously felt as if she had only spoken to them seconds ago.
“ I guess this is your natural climate? “ a dry chuckle follows along and Blake’s arms fold over each other, seemingly to gain as much warmth as they can. “ Did you just get here too? … “ pausing briefly and giving Weiss a casual scan over “ … You look a little too in your element to have just arrived here, actually.”
─ the voice that reaches her ears brings an immediate feeling of warmth and comfort. weiss needn’t turn around to know who the voice belongs to, the name leaving her lips before she’s even turned to properly face the girl.
❝ blake! ❞ joy encompasses weiss upon seeing another one of her teammates ( she had never entertained the thought that they wouldn’t end up here, too ) and even though not much time had passed since she’d last seen blake, she can’t help but feel grateful and relieved when her eyes reach blake’s.
❝ ...something like that. ❞ a crooked grin comes with her reply to the comment. its true, after all ─ the weather is reminiscent to what she grew up with, as opposed to ruby. and blake..? weiss walks up to her, a sudden frown appearing on her features.
❝ you, on the contrary, look half frozen to death. blake belladonna, how come you haven’t covered up yet? ❞ she scolds, hands placed firmly on her hips. despite the seriousness of her tone, there’s concern in her voice. ❝ ..it’s good to see you, blake. i’m glad you’re here, even if we’re not entirely sure what or where ‘here’ is. ❞ a smile returns, ❝ did you just get here too, then? ❞
#( BLAKE. || o1 )#mysterelle#( ok ok... are u ready.... for this sacred information ....m#its very sensitive so keep it secret!#weiss's trick... to warmth......#step 1: add scarf#done! )
