His name was Osamu Tezuka, and I'm not saying Tezuka had no issues (as someone who's read nearly all his work HE DEFINITELY DID OH MY GOD) but you can tell Miyazaki was jealous since he literally wrote a whole essay nobody asked for after the former died from cancer. Around a week after I believe? An essay that called his fellow creator a spoiled and jealous hack who never made anything of value.

You know... The man who invented nearly every anime/manga trope or genera you see today. The man (while was not the first anime creator as many claim) who kick-started Japanese animation and basically all the country's entertainment. Made both children's entertainment, dark and philosophical think pieces about society and everything in between. Also was a pretty good surgeon and great entomologist. Who actually seemed to like his family. Unlike someone else I can think of. Unlike a certain guy who never let his son pursue his real passion

"it gave me the chance to beat him" disgustly childish view for someone hailed as the exact fucking opposite. You should look at the success of your art and be proud it influenced people, not that you got a win in your one sided rivalry.

Also, if Tezuka was soft and passionless, why were his last words a plea to keep working? To finish his magnum opus that he worked so hard on, only to never see it end? Does Miyazaki not even have the slightest bit of sympathy for seeing another artists pain? Why does he seem almost relieved for Tezuka's passing?

And for every genuine criticism Miyazaki brings up for his predecessor: abusing workers, being pessimistic, selling out... He himself is guilty of!!

There's something especially just alien about this for me. As in I just can't fucking comprehend this line of thinking. When Miyazaki is a bitchy little pessimist it's endearing and funny! He's just a little guy! When big mean Tezuka is a pessimist, he's just doing it for shock value, he's gross! Miyazaki (based) puts people getting butchered in Mononoke, it's a great use of disturbing imagery! When Tezuka (cringe) uses some kinda sad, but not even violent (and very clear cut) symbolism ohh! I'M FUCKING SHITTING MYSELF! How dare he! How dare this movie have themes!

Oh my God, Miyazaki... You're telling me Tezuka's X rated pornographic film has SEX in it!? No! I can't believe this PORN clearly advertised as PORN included PORN. Yeah, Cleopatra doesn't have coherency because it was trying to be incoherent and artsy. Whether or not it's GOOD at that can be discussed, yet this doesn't even attempt to understand what the film was meant to be.

I hate that one shitty Slenderman adaptation because it's a really bad, not at all scary attempt at horror. You don't see me writing a smug interview where I slander it for being "the worst space movie ever because space isn't even mentioned!" You'd think I was high on five different substances.

Miyazaki speaks about Tezuka like an American YouTuber talks about Bakshi (story for another time) I guess no matter what part of the world you're from, media illiteracy is everywhere

Shown on the cover are, from left to right, higeoyaji, Ham Egg, Rock, Kenichi, and Lamp.

An extra four-frame comic strip shows in a comedic way why there are four aces of spades.

The only real ace of spades is Rock, and the rest, Lamp, Ham Egg, and Skunk Kusai, are all homemade.

Watching Korean Jetter Mars Korean dub and so far I'm really digging this theme song but also Korea is a very anti-Japan place until recently (even now there's a lot of problems) very odd choice to dub a show with some very obvious Japanese patriotism and a very imperialist/nationalist side character for the first half.

Also IDK maybe it's Ryan's upload or my phone but I'm pretty sure the audio keeps cutting. Like there was a full minute where Kawashimo was supposed to be talking but it was just very loud static. It's better than the dubs where they just spoke over the Japanese audio
