I live in Hill Country here in Texas, and we are having MAJOR flooding. Starting Thursday night, we got hit by a major thunderstorm cell that had continued on through Friday. The Guadeloupe River has overflowed, and so far, we have 27 dead and 20 missing, including children from a local summer camp. 23 RVs were swept away from the local RV park, which no longer exists now. Rescue efforts are pouring in, but there are still homes being destroyed and people being swept away.

• Rising death toll: At least 24 people are dead after torrential rain triggered flash flooding in parts of central Texas early Friday, according to officials.

• Campers unaccounted for: More than 20 girls are unaccounted for at Camp Mystic, in Kerr County, which is located along a river that rose more than 20 feet in less than two hours. It “does not mean they are lost,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick cautioned.

• All-night rescue effort: Searches to find those unaccounted for “will continue in the darkness of night,” Gov. Greg Abbott said. Around 237 people have been rescued or evacuated so far, many by helicopter, authorities said.

• One-in-100-years intensity: Parts of central Texas saw a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours overnight into Friday, prompting multiple flash flood emergencies. Hunt, a town near Kerrville, received about 6.5 inches in just three hours early Friday, which is considered a one-in-100-years rainfall event for the area. Heavy rain is expected to continue Saturday.

Happy disibilty pride month! My roommates and I are disabled and trying to move to safety. We have affordable housing, consistent work, and a welcoming community waiting for us. My roommates are my fiance who is intersex and unable to access the related care he needs here, and a loved one who has cancer, and is going to have surgery soon to remove an organ, masses, etc.

We haven't been met our 1st goal to move (we've broken the goals down to be more manageable and to keep us on a timeline)

Tomorrow is my fiance's birthday. @milkweedtussocktubers our friend who is helping facilitate this move (to zir farm, which is long-running and amazing, check them out) bought dinner which is really awesome because we haven't been eating hardly. Things are rough. Generally the progress we've made on our goal stopped the downward spiral of our financial situation, but we have so far to go before being able to move.

I am trying to flee Mississippi with my roommates. All three of us are disabled, one of my roommates (also my fiancé) is intersex, our roommate has cancer, and I am trans. It is increasingly impossible to survive where we are, and we have significantly more affordable housing and more reliable work waiting for us where we are going.

My roommate with cancer is supposed to have surgery out of state soon, and we are doing all we can to just make sure that gets taken care of. We are drowning. Very close to giving up most days.

okay I've been biting my tongue on this one a bit but the odds of any money you give to a uk trans or especially LGBT charity reaching a single uk transfem is vanishingly unlikely. the primary "resource" these orgs provide is jobs for trans people who can make it in a professional environment, and the vast majority of trans hires are tme (and thus unaffected by the judgement!).

if you know a charity run by transfems take a punt but otherwise please donate to fundraisers instead.

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.
