do you have any tips for coming up with like, actual plots for your stories?

oh god, anon, this is literally the one thing that plagues me 😭 i'm so sorry. coming up with plots is the bane of my existance but i can give a little input!

a good plot needs motivation. so your main character has a goal or is given a goal of some kind- then there's inciting incident, crises, and conclusion. digging into specific, i usually just have an idea like "what if character x wanted this" and write down a couple lines to see if it makes sense/vibes well

the other big thing about plot is conflict. introduce conflict at every little turn, big or small conflicts, internal or external. your character wants something. they cannot have it. that's kind of the deal here! you want there to be difficultly and then have the character respond to that difficulty :)

it's also good to remember that writing fanfic versus writing fiction can be wildly different when it comes to things like plot and characterization. fanfic has predetermined ideas to utilize which is super fun and exploratory, but can be restricting to your skills in coming up with plot and stuff. definitely seek out original works and read lots and lots of books!

Hey do you think about how Emizel learned his aggression from being all alone. From his father. Do you think about how Shilo learned his manipulation from being all alone. From his mother.

Do you think they felt so lonely. Emizel had the Demons, Shilo had his books, his uncle. Yet despite it all, they were both so lonely.

Do you think about how when they found out there was someone missing- their brother- from their life, they felt a little less lonely?

Yet there was something that kept them from being close. Maybe it was the years of separation. Maybe the jealousy (Why did their mother choose Shilo— why did Emizel get to experience the world) and do you think about how maybe if they knew each other when they were younger they'd feel less alone.

at what point does a clone stop being a clone. Rolan isn’t the kid at the bottom of the Bayou, he’s the man that went to chicago and went to university and got a job and went into law. Does Becky stop being Becky just because she’s an insect now, how do you draw the line between imposter and the new self when the original is gone, they had all their memories, thoughts and feelings and attachments, rolan even made his own, made himself without knowing it. At what point do you look at the thing that became the person you loved and know without a doubt there wouldn’t be a difference between them even if one was an insect.
